A very interesting presentation, besides all the C++ crap there's new stuff shown too.
I don't know whether the radiosity lighting is new, but it's certainly cool to see how the lighting is build up.
You can also see that the antlions are normal mapped too, like the antlion guards in the HDR movie.

Also, on page 19, it shows a screenshot from Hammer II, and in the background, there's some kind of vehicle, looks like a combine APC.
 
it's not C++ it's HLSL.

I don't think the radiosity is new, just the way they have implemented into the shaders with normal and specular mapping.

I still don't understand the reflection and refraction shaders they go way over my head.

Neat stuff in that PDF. Course all that code stuff makes my brain hurt but at least it's interspersed with new pictures. I like the beach cave. and the factory.

Photoshop. Start with a white background, and noise, motion blur it left to right, play with brightness and contrast, add slight blueish tint, render lighting effect, voila. easy, peasy.
 
The refelction and refraction maps are amazing! This is such a simple way to demonstrate all these cool effects!
Heh, I like that "USE HLSL" printed over the C++ coding. XD
 
I wish someone would explain everything said in that PDF because I have no idea what's going on.
 
that wallpaper is very nice, just needs a little antialiasing around the SOURCE and Logo bit :)
