The boy, identified only as "Jie-jie," also was born with just one kidney and may have problems that could lead to curvature of the spine, local media reports said. Jie-jie cried when either of his left arms was touched, but smiled and responded normally to other stimuli, the reports said.

Wow, if that's not an impedement to living, then that could come in real handy in later life.

Pity about the other health problems though, could have been caused by water pollution?

wow!

is the third arm capable of action or is it just 'there'.

God, how strange.

I was about to say the same thing. :naughty:

If he gets his medical problems fixed, it would be pretty cool. I always talk on the phone while playing DoD:S and I get a cramp in my neck from holding the phone with my head and shoulder. Third arm = win.

I've heard of people being born with extra toes before, and cows with extra limbs (that don't grow properly), I don't think there is any conclusive proof as to what causes it.

That'd be useful, barring other health issues.

It wouldn't be that useful considering the health, social and style implications.

Polydactylism (extra digits) is a genetic thing. Surprisingly, it's actually a dominant genetic trait. It's just that few people have that gene.

It would suck having to cut extra arm holes in all your shirts.

He could become a formidable warrior.

My, how Handy.
If we capture this gene, we could create a race of mutants, and create the ultimate Army.

I'll stop now :E

I had an extra limb when I was born, too :naughty: or at least that's what it looked like.

yeah :| :p
one kidney huh? hmm...at that young age?
that doesn't sound too good.

Tbh, I think it sucks. Realistically, that 3rd arm will NOT work. I mean, unless he has a seriously warped skeletal structure (3 shoulders, all that) it will just dangle there uselessly. Plus only 1 kidney = suck.

Poor little guy... :(

Neither of the boy's two left arms is fully functional and tests have so far been unable to determine which was more developed, said Dr. Chen Bochang, head of the orthopedics department at Shanghai Children's Medical Center.
So rather than having 3, he kind of only has 1. Poor little guy. And here I was hoping for the first signs of the Vortiguant Revolution.

Advance scout for the vort. revolution, I guess.

Still, that would suck. Poor kid.

Only two arms to lose before being able to form a Def Leppard tribute band.

Looks like the fruits of family love, say no to your hawt sister kids.

Depends. Jie jie can mean any number of things, depending on accent and context. In fact, that's pretty true for most mandarin words.

The only thing i know jie jie to mean is older sister. But then again my mandarin sucks.

Haha, so does mine >>

Mum says jie means streets, but not jie jie.

*internet shrug*
