Hello all, first I'll tell you my setup, I got my house networked with 3 computers all hooked up to Comcast High Speed internet (4mb Download and 384 Upload) and they are all hooked up to a Linksys Etherfast Router (BEFSR41) and Vonage with a Motorola v1000 and how that is set up is from my cable comes in through the cord into my cable modem which then goes to Vonage which then goes to my router and then throughout my house (what a mess, I know). Sometimes this set up gets really unstable and there is often spurts of times where I have to do power surges quite often. But anyways, while I'm downloading something on bittorrent (using Azureus) and getting maybe around 30 kbs download speed and 35 kbs upload speeds averagely. But while Im downloadings something with bittorrent like that it just kills my connection and almost renders my other computers useless sometimes. I didnt think that that would kill my connection since it just got upgraded even faster but I hate how using bittorrent makes the internet so slow or useless for the time being while its on. Also I dont think I messed anything but I was messing with my router settings and accidentely swithced it on static IP but I switched it back and is now fixed. Awhile ago it was so messed up that I would have to go into Network Connnections and hit repair connection just to get internet to work everytime, and it would sometimes randomly go out and firefox wouldnt work yet Azureus and Partypoker and stuff would. But since then it has been working pretty good except for my current problem. Is this normal or could I have messed something up or Is all my routers and stuff making it slow? Thanks for your help.

bt will do that if youre uploading too fast, try limiting your ul speed more and youll get faster dls probably

lol @ you using VoIP and downloading music and other stuff as well on a cable connection

384 Kbits per second = 48 KBytes per second (8 bits = 1 Byte).
Bandwidth is measured in bits while Download/Upload speed is measured in Bytes.

Your upload on the bittorrent is probably choking your connection. Try reducing that to 25 or less.

Turn down your upload speed and reduce the maximum number of peers your client can connect to. Too many connections will saturate your connection. I suggest you keep your upload speed 32kBs at most.

Thanks guys, I am now just setting max upload at 4 kb/s but it is still not allowing my upstairs computer to use the internet or at almost dial up speeds but ill try limiting the peers.

Maybe your setup is at fault. Try plugging the cable modem directly into the router; can your phone be configured to work through a router? I expect it's the same as any other ip service so you should be able to set up port forwarding on the router to make the phone work properly.

I confess I know little about this voip stuff seeing as we don't have it over here. It's still just an ip device at the end of the day, yes?

I think i may try that but it is recommeneded to run it before your router. And i cant even access my routers controls or anything.
