thats a pretty ****ing low thing to say. i wouldnt say you could draw the conclusion that shes racist from that though.

Explain why you think the comments are horrible. I didn't quite get what she was getting at.

Umm, what needs explaining? She said that because the people were poor things would work out for them well because of this hurricane.

I'm not really saying she is racist, I'm saying this whole country is racist. If the flood happened in Fresno CA I can bet you the evacuations would have been much faster, there would be a lot more effort from our government, and a lot less would have died.

What she said pretty much sums it up, since these are mostly poor blacks then who cares, things will work out for them.

She called forcibly relocating the refugees to Houston 'hospitality'.

:(

Are you suggesting that the US is morally wrong to move people out of a disaster area?

Feath said:

What are you suggesting? That her remarks were appropriate?

I was replying to jabberwock95 on a point that was aside to the Barbara Bush comments. His use of the word "forcibily" implied that the people of New Orleans were just quietly living their lives, then the evil US Government forced them to Texas to accept food and aid and shelter.

As for Barbara Bush comments, she said something stupid, most likely she had trouble articulating a thought. Must be where her rather famous son gets it from. But yeah, in itself it's a stupid quote.

Although, it doesn't help that the presenter guy uses that disapproving tone of voice when he reads out the quote or that they've left the "you know" in there to make her sound stupid. American news programmes are rather ridiculous sometimes when it comes to things like that.

I know who you were replying to, I just wanted your position on the original topic as you seemed to move away from that ;).

I think his tone was just fine and the "you know" is part of the transcript; I really don't know what you are trying to get at.

It's a general dig at US media. Not just this one thing. It's pretty apparent that he disapproves of what she said.

Feath said:

But again, I have no clue what you are trying to say. Are you saying he should approve of what she said?

I'm saying he should neither approve nor disapprove and report the news.

Feath said:
I'm saying he should neither approve nor disapprove and report the news.
And he did.

What I don't like is you know what she said is absolutely sick yet you try to play it off as the media having a problem with it. The media should not sit by and ignore all the sick things republicans do for the sake of trying to be fair and balanced. They should report the news as the news happens, this party pandering is what is ruining this country.

I'm getting more and more convinced that you misunderstand other people's points on purpose.

Feath said:

I understood perfectly. You said Keith Olberman shouldn't have been outraged at the remarks when the remarks were clearly outregeous. I said doing that is nothing more than media pandering to a political party and it needs to stop. What part did I not understand?

Feath said:

Yeah he's very good at that. Most people ignore him anyway, this post is just begging for racial undertones to try and affect the president. Really very low . Thats no different from what my grandma would say and she's just an ignorant senior, not a bigot, or a condescending politician.

Barbara Bush said:
"What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality," she said during a radio interview with the American Public Media program "Marketplace." "And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them."

About 28% of New Orleans residents are/were at or below poverty level. There were also a significant amount of homeless people there. Let's say there were 500,000 residents of New Orleans. 28% of that is 140,000. If one believes that the majority of the people left behind before Katrine hit were the poor and/or homeless, then it's fair to say that a significant number of the people evacuated to the Astrodome are poor and/or homeless. In the Astrodome, as yet, no one is living in squalor. No one has to worry, as yet, where their next meal is coming from. There are numerous things that those folks aren't going to need to worry about for a long time. Yes, they aren't in New Orleans, and they have to live together with a few thousand other people. But on balance, I think things are working out pretty well for most of those people, considering the above. In short, what are you mad about? Barbara Bush is not a Republican politician. Just because she is the mother of one and the wife of another means nothing. Get over it.

I hate certain people of the Bush family just as much as the next guy but I don't see the problem with her statement. Am I missing something?

I want to see an example of what I didn't understand. Since Feath wasn't able to provide one in his defense maybe you can do it for him. I'm waiting.

So if you had to leave your home, even if your home was just a $400 /month apartment, leave all your stuff behind including your pets, get relocated to another state you never stepped foot in, and lose your job you would be okay with her saying this will work out good for you as you were poor anyway?

The American news is completely biased and sensationalist. There is almost always a slant to just about any story reported. Of course it's worse with channels like FOX News, but they all do it and it's terrible and makes what they're saying unreliable. The reporter has every right to be outrage or offended, but he should not convey that in his reading of the transcript. It's petty and it simply isn't his place to present his opinion during the news.

There isn't a single channel in the United States that reports the news in an unbiased way, although some are better than others.

If I was living paycheck to paycheck, or welfare check to welfare check, and had to always worry about where my next meal or my kid's next meal was coming from, not having any medical care unless I went to the emergency room, yes. BTW, $400 a month would be too expensive for some of these folks who were averaging $11,000 or below a year according to the 2000 Census. Are you implying they are somehow worse off in their CURRENT situation then they were when they were living in squalor and poverty? Free meals, a roof over their heads, free medical, almost all their needs taken care of, the freedom to come and go as they please. Yep, that sounds terrible.

That's what I was getting at, smwScott. Thank you.

I'm not going to go through your posts just to jusitify my opinion. Anyway, I'm not on the defensive here. I'm just stating my opinion of the way you conduct yourself.

This is all I am going to say. And keep in mind this is coming from a guy that made less than $11K a year at one point in his life.

You simply don't know what you are talking about.

I'll leave it at that.

dude when your workplace is up to your nipples in water...your job lost you!

all you guys seem to care about is somehow connecting this to bush...

what about the raping, murdering and TV stealing(in a flood?!?) or the shooting of rescue workers/police?

all I hear is how Katrina apparently was in some way a planned event by bush..

and its a racist event as well!

and why is Fresno any different? there are at least as many (if not more) mexicans and blacks there than whites last I checked..

so how is it racist that Fresno would get help?

and you must be slightly inept if you didn't get what Feath was trying to say the first time he said it..

also everyone talks out of their ass here in "politics"..its what politics is all about..lies and deception

you of all people should know that

Just more bullshit from the right. Nobody is saying the hurricane is the fault of Bush. We knew this would happen long ago and expected it to happen. That is the point. We knew it would hit yet Bush cut their funding by 40% for emergency management to pay for Iraq. And on top of that he took 5 days to actually do something.

This is exactly what I was talking about in the other thread. It's impossible to engage in any discussion with you because you are always, "right." I've explained why what Barbara Bush said wasn't, "sick," or, "horrible," and you have used the fact that she is a Bush and a, "Republican," to prove your point. Several people on both sides of the forum political spectrum disagree with you, but I guess none of them know what they are talking about either. I have also made less than $11,000 a year at a couple different points in my life....and?

no the state took five days to do something...evac 24 hours before the storm when they knew about it 5 days in advance? then refusing help before it got out of hand?

smart,very smart

and **** you for calling me "the right"

I hate republicans and democrats equally..

besides I have a black girlfriend...and I am white...the "Right" doesn't allow such "blasphemy"..

nor do they condone the smoking of marijuana..oh wait but I do!!!

so to all of you in your little pigeonholes trying to put me in one as well...F*** OFF!!!

I am a pothead who is for the death penalty, abortion, seperation of church from everything and an end to "Political Correctness"...

what pigeon hole does that fit in?

What you said that being forced from your home and losing everything you had is a good thing if you are poor. This is bullshit and I will not go into that deeper. I will not go in to how these people still wont have health care, how they wont have any jobs in Texas, how many of them lost their pets, how many of them will get sick from diseases, how their life was changed overnight, how thousands are currently cramped up in a stadium, and how many of them lost their owned home which they didn't have insurance on.

I debate with facts and when I do that you are no where to be found, the one time I get upset because you clearly don't know what you are talking about you use that as an excuse for no refuting any facts I said in other threads. I keep my calm around here even after all the bullshit I put up with. I have to deal with people like ghost who resort to saying "stfu" when they can't refute something and others that are worse. I am not always right and I've admited to many here when I was wrong, including ghost. You know very little about me as you don't pay attention. So please, don't make assumptions.

I don't think I understand. Bush pretty much took 5 days to get off his vacation and get back to the white house. That was my point.

No, I called your points bullshit from the right. You got those talking points from the right regardless if you are actually on the right.
I hate republicans and democrats equally..
Good for you. But however you look at it you are always on one side or the other in politics. you just haven't figured it out yet as you haven't been paying attention.

Again, you missed my point. I was not saying you are on the right, I careless what you identify yourself as. My point is you got those points from the right.

Your talking point was that we blame the hurricane on Bush. This is just more bullshit from the right to try and diffuse the criticism. Sorry if you don't have a basic understanding of that, I can't really help you there.
