Battlefield 3

I'm pretty set for now but I might be needing help a little further down the line closer to release when the trickle of news turns torrential and I can't keep up with all of it.

Thanks for all the compliments and suggestions guys. Its really heartening and helpful :)

If those are cinematics, why the **** does every dev feel the need to release cinematic screens when all it'll do is disappoint us in the end?
If those are in-game, I don't believe it.

wow dat video, why can't they just show us SOME STRAIGHT GAMEPLAY FOR ONCE INSTEAD OF PUSSYFOOTING AROUND WITH FANCY EDITING

we're dedicated to multiplayer gameplay and one-upping the cod franchise with genuine, back to roots battlefield gameplay!

/cue fast-cut trailer of gunporn RAILS ATTACHMENTS POUCHES POCKETS STRAPS YEAH with blatent scripted singleplayer footage of, what is inevitably going to be, one squads up close and personal battle with the evil bad guy terrorists. oh yeah and lets throw in a first-person-getting-socked-in-the-face scene, because heaven knows cinematics are nothing without a shaky cam look through someones eyes whilst they are getting punched or a gun put to their head.

good job

Holy hell...that trailer brought back the chills of playing BF2 back in the day. My neurones have all been depolarised.

What the **** was that vague, generic-mysterious trailer?

Also, I'm sure you can reproduce the above screenshots' looks by quadrupling the bloom amount in BC2.

the only thing at all notable of BF2 in that was the punch in the face at the end which EA have been doing to it's fanbase right from the start of that games online roll-out by not supporting their games at all.

I can't control my horny level.

If that's ingame, then... damn...

Man, if that didn't say Battlefield in the trailer then I would've mistaken it for a new Call of Duty.

All I saw was fuzzy banding like what I would see while watching a decaying VHS on a 40 year old television.
We need to redefine 'gameplay trailer' for the gaming industry because they've clearly gotten confused as to what it's supposed to mean.

looks tasty!
now let's see some actual gameplay, lol

That is verified in-game footage, not pre-rendered. ONe of the devs said that on twitter this morning - that's REAL GAMEPLAY. Trying to find the source now.

edit: here you go. http://twitter.com/#!/stormonster/status/40429691122749440

"not pre-rendered CG, it's realtime rendered gameplay."

So, it's real footage. You guys would know that if you were using my site for news! You would also know that Gulf of Oman has been confirmed as part of the 4 maps in Back to Karkand DLC.

everything in that picture looks flat, simple and shiny. i'm not even someone who cares about graphics - esp. not in a battlefield game of all games, but man i dunno what's so impressive about all that.

that the game has m4 whit acogs sights?

What impresses me mostly is the animation. The sound design is going to be epic too. Apparently there are like 80 sound channels where they recorded sound effects from all kinds of different angles and distances... so the sound is very dynamic and 3d.

>BF3 released
>everyone playing Strike at Karkand

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWw YYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

So Karkand confirmed, Oman confirmed. What other maps? I'd really want Sharqi to be remade.

High-detail textures, even at a distance (esp. the road), what appears to be volumetric smoke, AA that actually functions, large-scale urban environment, what is either wind affecting objects or multiple variations of tree models, overall level of scene detail (flak, particle effects, bullet holes, props, model detail [esp. the satellite dishes])... I mean obviously it's subjective, but to me the visuals are far ahead of pretty much everything except Crysis and Tech5.

Sharqi Peninsula was the urban map with the broadcasting station, right? That was one of my favourites. My perfect four maps would be Karkand, Oman, Sharqi, and Mashtuur City.

what game doesn't?

ah, so looking down the road on arica harbor then, basically.

what i'm trying to say is it's going to take a lot more than nice visuals, animation and sound to get me backing a new battlefield game that's going to be the follow up to BF2, because even if they released a game that plays like that today with all the flash and shine we see here it'd still suck to me. bad company 2 proved very nicely it could have the polish with well toned gameplay, i don't think we need to be berated by gimmicky COD-esqe videos that don't show what they're doing to push this variant. they could make it as realistic as possible, throw in some kind of expensive 3d bullshit, make the sound in the game obliterate my ear drums and even have some sort of mechanism that hurls live grenades over my couch to make me really feel like i'm a war zone and none of it would matter if the game still cannot even do anti-aircraft right to couple with overpowered jets.

and none of it would matter if the game still cannot even do anti-aircraft right to couple with overpowered jets.
Totally agreed with you there. I'm going to be extremely pissed if jets and antiaircraft fire are the way they were in BF2.

Which patch? ALL OF THEM???

I loved how it went from AA that worked somewhat, to not at all, to too good, to not at all again.

Haha yeah I remember when they made the AA too good. Some of the turns I saw those missiles take... impressive missiles! xD

But we know barely anything about this game, have hope!

i do, i really do. if the worst case scenario is that the game is awesome and i'm wrong then i don't mind that, i'd rather have a good game at the end of the day, but everything so far hasn't been very convincing, or at least not convincing in line with what they say about the game.

What is everyone complaining about? It's a shitty gameplay trailer (it's really just a small step up from that teaser), but we will see so much more in March when it is officially announced. Chill.

I thope there's tons of information at e3. That's not too far away, y'know.

Edit: It's further away than I had previously thought.

damn this'll surely be the next crysis as that pc game right?

I'm getting really worried bout my 9600 GT SLI now =/

Try a single 7950gt. At least the game comes out at about my graduation date, and I plan for a new rig then.

Just gimme my MEC troopers with the same voice-actors and beards and TAKE MY MONEY!

What does this mean now? Does it mean something different than it used to, because I keep seeing this banded around where it doesn't really apply. I mean, you know you can already pre-order the game, right? I think that's pretty official.

Watching this, and knowing that this is all real gameplay according to DICE, I wonder if that means BF3 will be using an upgraded version of the Mirror's Edge movement model?

Where is the teaser? It's not in the original post. Forgive me if I don't wanna look through six pages of posts.

EDIT: Nevermind. What's the point of showing of reaö gameplay footage if you're only gonna show a few seconds. Might as well animate everything.
