"Because going gold isn't a big deal.

It seems that "gone gold" is the new "cool" buzzword. "Going Gold" really isn't a big deal. I swear as a former software developer that people seem to think they're big shots or something because they know what "gone gold" means. It's truly not a big deal. It's a milestone, yes, but honestly release is far more important. So, let me just say this:

You may or may not find out if HL2 has gone to the duplicators. Don't be surprised that you don't hear about it. Just know that as of this writing HL2 is on track for release 09/30/03..."

here's the link : http://community.vugames.com/[email protected]@.eff1534/25

14 left and counting......

:bounce:

That means there is a possibility that HL2 may have already gone gold, or we won't hear about it for awhile yet. Tis a good sign.

Cool... but I will start dying again if I read any more posts about "going gold"

/me screams

/me dies!

But this is just a moderator, right, not an employee?

I totally agree!!!
I believe we won't get a "gone gold" announcement.
It will be on shelves Sept 30th like Valve have always said.
14 days and counting......................

Jesus told me that hl2 went gold 1 1/2 weeks ago.

Yeah, but it's the moderator of the official forum. It's just his opinion really and it's true.

I'll say this again, Valve doesn't have to announce it's gone gold.

Valve has to announce if it's delayed.

Ridic, what's with the name change?

Koopa, it's about as reliable as an EB employee, Communal Toilet speaking to Vivendi and my next door neighbours, cat's owner's daughter's aunt's brother who used to work with some guy that e-mailed Gabe once saying "All your base are belong to us?" and recieved a reply of "I r teh leet on 30rd of Spetembre! PWN!!!!"

rofl! That should be your sig.

hehe, I might do that, need a new one as I'm used to delay threads now and the pay to pay rumours have been put to rest.

You may or may not find out if HL2 has gone to the duplicators.
Bull, there is no way in hell Valve could keep a game like HL secret once it's out of it's office's,if the master disk is being duplicated....we would know about it...period.As a matter of fact i even dought the boxes have been made yet!

We wouldn't know a thing unless Valve decided to tell us - and I'm pretty sure the boxes would have already been made. Considering how active Valve are in the community I'd have thought they'd let us know, they know we're bursting to find out.

i am confused "WON shutting down in approx. two weeks"
wtf?

that sounds to me as if no more hl? im so confused

Holy shit. I just crapped my pants :D :D

That guy probably knows as much as we do.

Well, think of it like this... If the release date hasn't been changed from 9/30/03, then it's safe to assume it's pretty damn close to being gold..

And I think it'd be rather foolish of Valve to change the release date 14 days before the one they've been pushing for.

It's just assumptions, no more "proof" than we've seen so far. And going gold is not a "big deal"? Heh ... going gold means the game is actually finished. And reading the Final Hours (or whatever it was called) article on GameSpot also shows that it was a pretty damn big deal for Valve when Half-Life went gold. Probably no difference this time.

This of course doesn't mean it's 100% certain that Valve will announce that HL2 has gone gold, but I would be surprised if they didn't

yep, those mock-ups (of boxes) were made exclusively for e3.

And if they managed to keep HL2 under wraps (ESPECIALLY with the glaring loose end of TF2 being redone in a new engine. . .) for 5 years, who's to say we won't find out about "going gold"

What if tehre is a deal similar to the one with the media about not releasing information?

We would have to have a production worker (being mostly mechanized, i doubt there are tons of people working on it) that are big enough fans of THIS game to post it on the board, or leak to some site as "an anonymous worker in the CD printing factory" without evidence.
Unless they brought a digital camera to work 8D

If you ask me.. Gold is so over-rated anyway.. gimmie Silver or Platinum anyday..

:cheese:

Maybe they're just releasing the full re-worked client of Steam w/ HL 2 benchmark on the 30th and not HL 2 game. :afro:  :cheese: :dork:

"Bull, there is no way in hell Valve could develope Half-Life 2 for 4 years with hardly anyone know about it!"

Besides, the boxes and manual are probably done because those get done months before a game is released. Look at any game box and you'll probably find inaccurate information.

The boxes will have been made. Look at any game box and you'll see really old screenshots and it will mention stuff that isn't in the game.

I mean the Freelancer box mentioned the "New Florida system" and no where in the game is "New Florida" mentioned.

And let's have a look at the Half-Life box

"Scripted Sequences

Half-Life has a life of its own. Events will occur and characters will evolve even if you are not around to see them. You can intervene in these scenes and dramatically alter the outcome of the mission! So think twice about adopting a "shoot first - ask questions later' strategy, one of your potential targets might be able to help you out of a tight spot later on."

And all the Screenshots are really old as well, showing stuff that doesn't happen in the game.

Press release

Today the Security and Exchange Commission filed a lawsuit against Vivendi Universal in Federal Court in New York City to prevent Vivendi Universal from making a payment to Mr. Messier, pursuant to the recent arbitration award.

The lawsuit was filed pursuant to Section 1103 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, which permits the SEC to freeze extraordinary payments to officers or directors during an SEC investigation.

Vivendi Universal has indicated that it would fully cooperate with the SEC. "
