Hi everyone, this is my first post here. I visit these forums sometimes, but I forgot to post about my map until now. So here it is complete with description, download link, and screenshots.

Description from the readme: A large map set in an abandoned motel-like building. This map should be good for 12-18 players and includes gameplay inside and around the "motel". The main hall on the ground floor is usually the center of the action with its multiple entry/exit points, and vertical gameplay with the attic above. The map also includes a basement/laundry area accessible from the main floor or through a sewer pipe from the small parking lot outside. Have fun! :)

Cool stuff!
The holes in the attic floor look kinda...not right? err? As if someone cut them out with a saw or something...
Other than that, very cool.

really nice. although my framerate dips down to 40s inside. could use some serious area portaling in the middle part

Thanks for the comments! :) After releasing beta1 of this map, several people suggested turning the attic into a more detailed and playable area. The attic is now a playable part of the map but at the cost of 20-30fps indoors. Areaportals are already in use in all places where they made a difference. I know some people try to keep all areas of their maps in the 60fps range. My goal was to keep all areas above 30fps on my machine, which nowadays is a middle of the road pc. This is described in the readme as well as the resolution and detail settings that I tested the map at.

Looks great, but as the guy above me said, the holes look a bit plain, use some rebar sticking out from the concrete (props/debris iirc)

Yes, I agree that the holes in the ceiling do not look as good as the holes in the walls, for instance, but on a full server there is usually a good amount of gameplay between people on the main floor and people in the attic. I would think that making the holes more jagged and putting rebar in would hinder both movement between the two floors and players' ability to fire at people on other floors.

Thank you for the suggestion, but this was the final version of this map. I am not currently working on it anymore.

Criticisms of a map can always be taken and remembered for the next :)

I felt that the outside was a bit large and bland when compared to the inside, but that overall the quality is very high, and I really like how well you've realized this burning interior.

i can bet you $50 that they aren't. :)

Well, I don't know about the $50, but I would hope that I have a pretty good idea of how it is optimized. I experimented EXTENSIVELY with various ways of optimizing it. I found that using areaportals any differently than how I did in the final version either had no effect on the framerates, or decreased them.

Also, I do agree with pur3r4ge about the map criticisms. I just wanted to clarify that I wasn't working on this map anymore. Actually, it will probably be quite a while before I make another map. Still gotta run a business, and spend time with my wife, especially during her summer break from teaching.

I always appreciate everyone's thoughts. Thanks! :)

P.S. That dm_chameleon looks pretty good(but dark) from the screenshots. Maybe I'll give it a try.

Omg...you have one of those things? What do you call em again...whi....fa? wi-fah? wife? My daddy told me "Son, you look here ; if you ever feel the need to marry a woman, ask yourself how much time and money you're willing to spend on a blow-up doll and reconsider!"
