I opened it because I was saved. I knew God wanted me to read it, so I started reading it, it's the least I can do for God giving me eternal life. :)

God didn't 'make' the Bible. People wrote the Bible, these people were influenced by God. Isaiah, for example, was a great prophet, and had many visions from God, which he wrote in to his book in the Old Testament. Isaiah predicted that Jesus would come, and He did. :D

Why are their spelling errors in the Bible? I don't know how you could possibly say that. The bible was originally written in Hebrew or something (I think), it has since been translated into hundreds of languages, multiple times. If there are spelling mistakes, it is likely to be because of your version.

What prophesies did not happen? How do you know they did not happen? The earth has not ended yet either, there is still plenty of time for prophesies to come about (such as our beloved saviour coming back :))

There are different versions because people read different languages. There are different versions of each language depending on a persons wants or needs. For example, I favour a NCV over a NIV, why? Because personally I find the NCV easier to read. Some people like the old-English of the King James Version; that is personal preference.

Here you go, knew it would come in handy someday! http://www.zyon.org/content/bibling/versions/

omg your worst than i thought.
i wish you the best of luck, there is nothing i can do here.
whatever makes you happy i guess :D

Yeah, I've read those, and it proves my theory that we do not have free will. Which isnt a very happy thought, would you say? :)

That's what YOU think, the world ends every day, when unplugging the Holy Plug.

Pff, my religion is more fun, you got to admit that!

Yes Dawdler, it does sound a whole lot of fun :E, but personally I simply love worshipping God, praying, reading etc, but hey, everyone likes different things. :)

Not a happy thought? No way! I am totally glad that God is in complete control of my life. I want God to be in control of my life. :D

Good point. Cause I cant argue against it really :)
Personally, I like doing evil stuff. God wouldnt like controlling me, would be a like a squirming baby in his hand that tries to bite his finger all the time.

Guess its a state of mind really.

Personally I don't believe in jesus, I don't believe in hell, I used to but then realized how wrong it is. You christians are so violent, sorry but personally I don't believe that because someone cheated on their wife and didn't apologize for the natural progression of events that god created they should be tortured for eternity, I hate how all these christians think that everything is determined in life, I think THAT is narrow-minded personally, Do you know what the purpose of punishment is? Its to provoke a change in a targeted individual, if you were tortured for eternity their would be no point to it except perhaps people looking on in heaven being happy because somone who wasn't nice to them is being tortured... when I was 15 I thought of the theory of causticism and determinism without knowing such things existed already and were already theorized, I disproved determinism to myself in a sense of the word but causticism is still a very strong part of my beliefs... you know who else shares my beliefs? Albert einstein for one..

"A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeeded be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death." "
"I cannot imagine a God who rewards and punishes the objects of his creation, whose purposes are modeled after our own -- a God, in short, who is but a reflection of human frailty. Neither can I believe that the individual survives the death of his body, although feeble souls harbor such thoughts through fear or ridiculous egotisms."

You see personally I don't believe in rewards and punishments, they are illogical.. christianity is itself illogical in the fact that it says the only way to heaven is through jesus christ, and yet say something like the Native Americans.. they were alive after jesus christ, before the english came over.. they had no way to know of christ, so therefore they are all burning in hell? Personally I find that violent and unneccisary.. perhaps some overall purgatory is feasible to get everyone in an akin mindset of sorts.. perhaps hell is all that exists and we are all tortured for eternity.. perhaps heaven existsf or everyone, perhaps we simply cease to exist.. I have no way of knowing, so I say all of them, I'm either right or i'm something else is the way I look at it.

edit-edited out unneccisary vulgarity (sorry got emotional, rofl)

yea well i think ure wrong there since god cant effect free will how can this occur "for the natural progression of events that god created" its not "the christians" fault that the bible is written as it is they believe from the teaching they cant just make up some crazy rules cos u dont like it. :(

determinism is the denial of free will.. "Humans are merely billiard balls despite how they would like to see it." basically sums it up. As I said i disproved that to myself to some degree, which was more of an acceptence of what is, as in I believe in human's ability to reason, but it is still circumstantial and based upon things as well as their reactions, avoiding pain and seeking pleasure is what drives most humans, yes even christians, I mean your threatened with torture for an eternity and rewards if you worship, I don't see what makes christians so holy based upon that they act upon that, I can guarantee you most christians if told they would be tortured for eternity for worshipping and be rewarded for sinning would cease worshipping... perhaps not all, dunno myself though, oh and I don't blame anyone for what their past was or what's been written, I mean obviously we didn't have much say in it, you can look at the official "holy book" regarding a nations religion and almost see their econmic problems mirrored in it, most of times as a way to resolve it, I mean they had a bunch of fasting for islams? Why? Cause they had food shortages more than likely, I don't get why their god would enjoy seeing people go hungry.. I also even in a christian sense think giving a 10th of your money to the church is wrong, you can see how the church (as in the english church) put it in their to fund their crusades and to exert their power.. =O

Religion = the biggest cause of war ever

Whoever had that signature of "Fighting over religion is fighting over who has the best imaginary friend" made me laugh a lot

I belive that something up there made everything, but that entity doesnt deserve to be worshiped, nothing does

Religion isnt, men are. Every religion that has ever existed has actually been concentrated at peace and understanding. Islam even more than Christianity, and we shall not mention Bhuddism.
Hm, well, now when I think on it, not really christianity... The church did enourage people to crusade, and everyone else was a heretic. So I beg to differ! Christianity is the biggest cause for war ever :)

I agree with the good priest pressure. Only...that song has a point? what if God was one of us?
As for blaspheming, I don't think God would realy take offence. I hope...;-)

hmm i just knew this would turn into a flame war every thread like this did

who's flaming fat tony? everyone else looks like they are discussing to me?

I was the person with the quote in my sig. It's true. Relgion doesnt start wars. People do

yeah sure...... a murderer..... a real f**king hero. Seriously, many people will take offence to that. Shut up, and don't say stuff like that.

Just stupid :p. Jk, he was a cult leader who kind of brainwashed people. He killed people, including some famous actors daughter. If you've ever see him, you'll know cause he has a swastika carved into his forhead.

He's pretty damn notorious, so it's kind of surprising that ya havent' heard of him.

Valved. Im curious as to why you feel the need to praise this man. What has inspired you to do so?

Why is it that you take such a stance with life in general?

niestzsche: im atheist, i find my pentagram issue to be odd but i don't believe in anything, probably just coincidence.
yes i know what a metaphor is, the question is

do you think big words make you look smart?
ohh yeah let me guess you will reply with some little clever setence. saying something like metaphor isn't the vocabulary word of the week, damn im good.

farrowlesparrow: no i don't praise charles manson, i just get chuckles because people think i do and even if someone did why would it matter? he's dead, nothing dead man can do except influence others with what he has done. so it's all just a matter of what you want to do. my life is good i don't need a god to cry upon on. just another god of a mind.

p.s. don't take this the wrong way you may do what you wish with your life, your thoughts, beliefs and way you act are all yours to decide. i think the true way is to find out for yourself, other peoples influence should'nt lead you on your way.

the answer is never the same.

do you think big words make you look smart?

He doesn't strike me as the type to think that. Most people who do that often use them out of context and they don't fit in with the type of language they generally use.

Anyway. Don't take this the wrong way. But you yourself seem to be attempting to sound clever (and i don't mean academically) and possibly even philosophical, if thats the right word. But it doesn't fit with your character. You are often rude to people and feed off their discomfort. The fact that you joke about praising Manson although possibly not as bad as actually praising him is still not right. Manson was a very twisted man and he did a lot of wrong. Its not really a joking matter, some day i can imagine you doing something like that to the wrong person and ending up in a lot of trouble. Im not saying we should hide away from these things but you are going about it the wrong way.
Like i said you seem to feed off other peoples discomfort and you don't even care if you are actually hurting them.

the whole manson thing was brought up by nietzsche. he compared me to him by looks. i didn't mind neither did anyone else, i just found it kind of funny cuz i look nothing like him. but when I said something about him. it's point the finger at me and stamp troll on my forehead.

You think I'm doing this just because i don't like you or something? Admittedly i don't have the best impression of you. But if you had read some other threads you would see that me and Nietzsche have on many occasions had clashing opinions. I'm simply trying to take the more objective view of the argument going on in this thread. I'm not really trying to force my opinion or anything. I'm just trying to tell you something i believe to be the truth. In this case it happens to be not worshipping Manson. Now obviously you don't do that because of what you just said. I must have been mistaken. Anyway this is off the point. Just because at the moment I'm disagreeing with you doest mean I'm on Nietzsche's side or anything.
