Benchmark=?

heres my take on the benchmark and why there releaseing it as a standalone product and such.
HL2 uses more DX9 effects then any other game currently publicly known (that includes Doom3) and its very likly the source engine will be used for a large number of upcoming games. This standalone benchmark will probly be pretty much the standard for PC gaming performance testing.
I personaly really look forward to getting a standalone benchmark, becasue if you think of it this way, it will give you a chance to test out various performance settings in HL2, so when the game hits, youll know exactly what settings give you optimal performance and optimal visual quality, no in-game tweaking required, itll be easyer to jump right in and start playing.

i wonder does the benchmark have options you'll be able to change, like dx9 effects, texture quality, lights, etc? or do you mean us changing our AA and AF settings in windows to see whats the best?

I would imagine the benchmark would have all the detail settings (model detail, texture detail, mipmap detail, fsaa, af, etc) available for tweaking so you can indeed test what works best with your system

Edit: Double post somehow, I didn't click submit twice.. odd

I hope that, as shuzer said, well have options to change all of that. and of course itll be a good chance to test FSAA and AF settings too, and itll be a good chance to test what res youll wanna run too.

wonder what kind of sound system they use, some are more system intensive then others. or some just hate certain sound cards and chug with them. itd be nice if there was sound there to test as well!

demo

I hope the benchmark comes out on 30th and has that little tech demo :D that would allow me to wait another couple months....with all those cool physics!!
