Best Game Music?

Deus Ex has one hell of a soundtrack. Final Fantasy 7 & 8 also have great music. Oh yeah and MGS 1 & 2! Damn that MGS theme makes you tremble! Fallout 2 also had some great ambient musics.

Hmm, Suikoden II, Final Fantasy 7, Halo, and some tiny peices of Diablo II ;)

Edit - oh and of course Zelda : OoT. Gerudo valley is freaking kick ass.

mgs2 i liked
all silent hill games have great soundtracks as they are composed by a genius
halo's music was good
max payne and max payne 2

there are more i just can't think of them

Chrono Cross..beats all the final fantasy series outright..the best RPG soundtrack (on the PSX).

Quake2 for me. If you're a metalhead like myself, then Quake2's tunes would have kept you going throughout the entire game.

C&C Generals
Total War series
Medal of Honor series

Halflife2 music, I can live without.

Hitman series
Half-Life series
Red Alert (Hell March :E)
World of Warcraft
Battlefield: Vietnam (but that's licensed, like GTA)
Unreal Tournament

EDIT: I don't like that Grim Fandango soundtrack so far, but maybe it's because I bloody hate fscking jazz! Hate the Mafia soundtrack too.

I would have to say that FF7-FF10 are my favourite game music ever..
1st. Liberi Fatali - FF8
2nd. Clouds Theme - FF7
3rd. Aries Theme - FF7
4th. Isnt it beautiful - FF10
5th. Sephiroths Theme - FF7

Then theres the Command & Conquer Series (up to before EA took over)
1st. Mechanical man - C&C1
2nd. Hellmarch - Redalert1
3rd. Hellmarch2 - Redalert2
(there are others but cant remember there names tbh :p)

Then ye cant forget the Metal Gear Solid games and also The first Wipeout, I thought it was class that you could actually put the Wipeout disc into your cd player and listen to all the songs that was in the game, which might I add were very good aswell

metal gear solid makes me fill with pride when i hear it, its so uplifting....i have a habit of speaking my mind....and saying stupid things like that

What is the best music of any video game ever?

I would have to say my favorite is Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
Definately Zelda. Nothin can beat that :p :p :p

Chrono Trigger, Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy VIII, Halo 1 and 2...

These are my favorites. Not because these musics are of a quality of 500% but they have a sentimental value that other music can't compare.

Doom 2 Soundtrack
Donkey Kong Country 2 Soundtrack (Man can't believe no-one mentionned this one yet)

Mines, Brambles and Lava are some of the ****ing best music you'll ever find in a video game.

One song in Airxonix. I found the music files, but I can't open .mus files. I don't know wich one of them is the good one, because they're all called '01.mus' '02.mus' '03.mus' etc...

i really loved the back ground music to HL and HL2 spesh in HL2 because it was cool and only came on when you were looking around and was very well timed but once u started back to the game it would always fade away and you could play :)

OH YEAH! forgot about Chrono Trigger. That beats Halo. I LOVE the fight and victory music, not the mention the music during the clip before the main menu kicks ass too.

RPG's never die

Chrono trigger Chrono trigger... Chrono trigger was a pretty good game but not as great as everyone claims it to be the best game ever. Stop. but that was like 12 years ago. lol.

you know I just noticed something, RPG's never die. lol

My god, not a mention of Castlevania. Vampire Killer is one of the all time best themes from any game ever, especially the versions from Rondo of Blood and the Saturn version of Symphony of the Night. And speaking of Symphony, the tracks 'Wood Carving Partita' and the seminal 'The Tragic Prince' are a wonder to behold. Any fan of classical and rock would love the Symphony of the Night soundtrack, a nigh-perfect blend of the genres.

I highly recommend the Dracula X - Nocturne in the Moonlight OST (Symphony of the Night)
Dracula X/X6800 Arrange (a collection of tracks from the series)
And track 2 of Dracula Battle Perfect 2 (the Theme of Simon Belmont remix...holy crap.)
Y'all got beated.

Sorry to ressurect an old thread...

but definately Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Hands down. Like said previously, especially Gerudu (sp?) Valley.

Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time - Absolutely loved Gerudo Valley, Fire Temple, Shadow Temple, and Spirit Temple themes.
Super Mario Sunshine - Don't know why, but the World Hub track sticks in my head for days after I play.
Halo, Halo 2 - Epic.

The Halo 1 theme was good the first 40 times you heard it. Then it started getting really, really annoying.

The GameBoy Zelda (Link's Awakening I believe) had friggin' brilliant music. Not to mention how emotive the ending was. Chrono Trigger definitely deserves a mention too- that's a game I love like no other for a variety of different reasons, but the music was indeed great.

I always loved the Baldur's Gate semi-techno credits theme. Even though they did their best to ruin it by interposing soundbytes of a shouting Amnish guard into it...

I know they have all been mentioned but:
Zelda: OoT
Mario Sunshine
Perfect Dark
Grim Fandango
And a new one: Project Rub (DS game: www.projectrub.com)

They are all superb and the music sticks in your head for days.

MoH series wins hands down if you like older sounding war music. I used to just sut and listen to the music scores... they are soo damn good.

Command and conquer generals....you must hear it to believe it..so awesome.

I-War 2
Total War series
Hostile Waters
Max Payne 2
UT2004
Brothers in Arms
MONKEY ISLAND, DAMMIT!
