When was the best, most exciting PC gaming year for you?

I would have to say the year right before SWG was release. I was soooo psyched for that game, that i was excited for like 2 years before it was released. I didnt even care about other games.

Of course now I never get excited like that anymore. It was all LIESS

Haha that was exactly what I felt about HL2, I never even thought about other games while waiting for the release. Now I feel the same for Crysis, I barely care for Alan Wake, Silent Hill 5, Resident Evil 5 or UT 2007.

I'd say 2004, that year was the walhalla for gamers with the arrival of the nextgen games.

2004. Far Cry, Doom III, HL2, and a bunch of others I can't remember anymore :p

03 or 04. Most certainly. Although I reckon we're entering another good phase now.

2004 and '98

04 gave us Wow, doom3, hl2, and farcry. Amazing!

2004 of course, HL2!!!

But I'd say 2006 has been pretty damn good so far, I'm going nuts about so many games coming out :rolling:
It had one of the more exciting E3s, that's for sure :D

same.

both brought in a new generation of graphics and gameplay (farcry, doom3, hl2 in '04; MGS, hl1, and a lot of classics in '98)

04, man i was so hyped at e3 04 for battlefield 2, but i think we are entering another period like it this year

If you are going down new the new generation route, 96 should be the most advanced year. Mario 64.

2002, that was the year I built my first computer and could start playing graphic intensive games

yea 2004 for sure .,
not for the pc only, but for all the consoles ,music industry and movie theaters

2004 and '98, for COMPLETELY different reasons. Obviously, in 2004, tons of awesome games were on the verge of coming out. In '98, on the other hand, I got my first console (an N64) and discovered Zelda. So I suppose '98 is the all-time best for me.

'98 was a great year. homeworld, half-life, zelda OOT, ground control and a bunch of other franchises got great iterations which I can't remember

'04 was good because of hl2, doom III, farcry, etc.

'06 will be great because of Ps3 and the good ole wii

'07 will be amazing because of spore and supreme commander!

1998 was fantastic tbh. MGS, HL, Silent Hill, Zelda: OOT, Starcraft, Gran Turismo, Tomb Raider 3, Tekken 3, Grim Fandango, Fallout 2.

1999 Definately. Half-Life 2 is my favorite game, but it was a high peak in a year that wasn't otherwise that notable (there were plenty of good games, but a lot of them just didn't hit the spot. Stuff like Far Cry and Doom III which were one step forward, two steps back). In 1999, we saw the release of System Shock 2, Homeworld, Unreal Tournament, Final Fantasy VIII, Quake III Arena and Half-Life: Opposing Force, games I have played to death ever since. 1998, like 2004 was only really remarkable because of Half-Life (and Metal Gear Solid I suppose. Though someone will cry for Starcraft which I never really saw as anything more than just another RTS). 1999 was the year that Half-Life ultimately took off. In addition to the first expansion, the mod community exploded and we got Counter Strike.. Just looking at a list of games from that year, there was a bunch of other big-name titles that I instantly recognise even if I personally skipped them...

My younger years with Commander Keens, Cannon Fodder, Speedball 2, Golden Axe, Sensible Soccer, etc...

(Sorry for being nostalgic but after a thread of "good free games" earlier in the week I went on some of the sites and downloaded some classics!

I think 1998\1999 are the best years. Everything that Kupartist said...but then there is also
STARCRAFT!!!!

2003 for me. That's when I discovered online gaming. I started of with MoH:AA. In hindsight a good choice imo, coz it's not very deep and just a lot of crazy fun. After that I played American Army religiously for about four or five months. I knew every nook and cranny on the original Bridge level. I had some of my greatest gaming moments with that game. I ended the year with Battlefield 1942 and all the mods. Been a fanboy ever since.

1995:

Sega Megadrive was the best damned thing ever at the time.

Yep.... would agree, but the thread is about PC gaming :|

Stupid inadequete titles :p

Hm, probably 2000. I only really got HL and such around that time.

2004! Got my first PC capable of running any 3D games! :O

Half-Life 2
CoD (well i got it 04)
Doom 3
Far Cry
Splinter Cell's on the PC
UT 2004
Did a GTA come to the PC then?
Thief Silent Assasin

Great times and we are entering another golden age, Crysis, Stalker, Sin, more HL, UT2k7, C&C3, Spore, Supreme Commander, Huxley, Oblivion, Medieval Total War 2, more BiA

all in all :D

It is a good time to be a pc gamer right now. Plus 2004 ruled.

2004, the start of the "Graphics that looks un-godly good" era that we are currently in

1998 was a pretty awesome year for pc gaming. Baldur's Gate, Half-life and Grim Fandango :)

Best year for PC gaming?
As always it has to be .........................next year.

Always, next year.

2003/2004, probably 2004 because it was the release of half life 2.
