post your best HL2 experiences.

hmm i have many.

at the lighthouse, defending from the dropships. the final ship lands and the troops jump out, i kill the troops while running towards them using the Magnum.
theres one soldier left, i switch to my crowbar and charge towards him thrashing it around, the soldier turns and runs in the other direction! classic!!!
of course i catch up with him using the sprint function and beat the living shit out of him with my crowbar. i love the way they go "yuargh" in their little combiney voices as you whack a large gaping hole into their head and watch the blood splatter all over the floor....

Nice! Tell that one to the people who say that the Combine never run away...

I find it so hard to choose - I replayed all the gunfights so many times for enjoyment's sake that they all blur into eachother. Every single one was great.

There was one at the Combine roadblock/observation post (where the things jut out of the floor to stop your buggy) which ended in a cool way. I had the typical chaotic shootout, lots of strafing so that I ended up circling around the entire area until I was behind a house on the opposite side of the road to where the fight started. I emerged from there and found a soldier facing away from me, apparently inspecting one of his comrade's bodies lying dead in the road. Using ctrl to stealth-walk, I went into the house and sucked a radiator from a wall then went outside and got up close to him.

I aimed high, trying to gauge it so that a corner of the radiator would *dink!* off his head and shatter his skull :D I let fly with the GG and it was PERFECT, smacking just into his head, and the guy collapsed over the corpse in front of him (thank god for cl_ragdollcollide 1). I have a save file of that part in case I want to replay killing him :E

I remember when you come to a house overlooking the ocean in Highway 17 with a thumper just outside. I ran into the house, fired off a couple of shots and got the attention of the 3/4 guards inside the house. Ran outside, to where my buggy was parked next to the thumper and waited for them to leave the house. Soon enough, they had all taken up firing positions behind the shed or just generally right in front of me. Flicked the thumper to 'off' and high tailed it across the sand untill the sounds of gunfire and many, bladed legs skittering over the grass couldn't be heard.

I stopped the buggy at a rock, hopped out and climbed up the rock and activated the scope on my SMG just in time to see a soldier running backwards up the ramp the house being chased by antlions, firing as he went. As he got behind the house walls where I could see him more, I could just see faintly through one of the windows many little yellow antlion sycthes thrashing around at the unseen soldier. Poor guy. Great death though, wish I had a way to of recorded what I had seen.

There Are So many cool areas ... I liked your ability to control the antlions. very innovative. The game kept changing the way you had to play it. Can't wait for HL3!

too many moments but i'll get back to you when i can remember my most fav one!!!

I think raven holm when the fast zombies come running at you after that old monk gives you the shotty, you kill em off then when you have about 2 hp left your eyes dart around franticly for an escape route you see it and jump into the water and climb up the ladder and shite. that was a bad post.. >.>

Yeah, um, Panda, this is like, the second time you've double posted.

Oh and welcome to the forums, enjoy your stay

For more great experience in this game, I have a tip (maybe it's already known but ...) : If you want to create NPCs that do not already exist in the world, you can simply make bind (ex : to having zombie in the start of the game, type a bind like "bind "#" "npc_create npc_zombie", and then use the # to create this NPC).

P.S:- I apologize if this tip doesn't works on your computer and for my english (and maybe, there are others ways to create NPC's).:farmer:

How does that make a better experience?

Under the bridge, when you got to some panel thing, and you only had 4 rockets in your rpg, yeah well I only had 3 at that moment, so I hit 3 and needed 1 more to down the drop ship. Shooting out the combine that met me, I grabbed a barrel and began to walk along the railings while shielding myself from gunship fire, by crouching and facing it, eventually I was across threw it away and sprinted for the last shot, grabbed it, sat down behind the wall and then came out shot the ship and got a nice explosion right infront of me. It was awesome how the place went from a crazy meat house into a nice view under a bridge. = P

In fact I am talking about "NEW experience" because you can create new situations (exemple : Zombie vs Stalker or Manhac) and see the differents reactions of the NPC's. Just try it !!

Tried it months ago.

Oooh.

- The bridge. The whole damn thing.
- The can, and being chased all over the place by the donut-eating CPs while giggling like a schoolgirl.
- That bit in Ravenholm where Father Gregori gets surrounded after letting you through the gate and the music comes in and you edge away while his gunshots and cackles fade into the distance....kinda put a twist in my stomach.
- Facing off against choppers on my fist time through. That 'whoooooooop' was they charge up, hiding under debris and getting bombastic particle effects splattering my eyes, making an insane run for cover...
- The end chapter, duh.
- Strider battles. :E

The citadel was incredible.

The general atmosphere of the entire game was beautiful.

I don't get why people don't like double posting.
Do you get why people don't like others posting stuff that has nothing to do with the thread?

In answer to your question: people don't like it because it clutters up the place, it's irritating having to read more than one post by the same person, there's an edit button so use it, and (arguably) the most important reason: it's seen as a very lame way for spam addicts to boost their post count.

So don't do it.

I've been keeping up with this thread but haven't been able to think of anything really good until I read the one about the bridge. I posted this a while back but what happened is:

During the gunship battle, I accidently fell off one of the girders under the bridge.. For a second I thought I was dead, until I began to RISE and then when I looked down I was RIDING THE GUNSHIP, which was crazy!!

I was on the back of it for a good 5 seconds at least as it flew far out away from the bridge and then as it turned back around I went flying off and got a crazy sweet view of the entire bridge from way off on the side, far above the water. Then I died of course.. but it was really cool view on the way down.

So yeah, you can actually ride on the back of gunships.

ok this one freaked the hell out of me.

When your in ravenhome and your in the building waiting for the eleavator. I closed the door behind me thinking the fast zombies couldnt get in. Boy was i wrong, they broke through the sky light making me jump 10 feet out of my chair and almost into cardio arrest. hahaha was fun thought. was never scared that much in a game befor!

ravenholme, 2nd time so i knew what to expect (hard mode)
at the bit where gregori gives you the shotgun, all the fast zombies start coming from everywhere. i ran back inside the building where i had cunningly blockaded a doorway with a washing machine and 2 cardboard boxes (it worked though!)
when i got down all the zombies where growling at the blockade and howling. i throw in a grenade and all the zombies got sent flying back (four i think)

nept0wned!!!

I loved the whole game really, some of my more memorable bits will be the assault on Nova Prospekt, and when you are inside NP and have to setup a defensive perimiter with the turrets and boxes while you wait for alyx, very tense and fun to play.

I this it was when i had the crossbow and i shot a guy who was running out of a building , the arrow hit him in the waist and he was upside down attached to the wall, high enough so that his arms were dangling in the ari, and another time when i shot a guy in the head with a crossbow and it went through his head and attached him to the wall and made it look like he was standing staright up.

I did that on my last run, i was like WTF?!? it was an awesome moment. But really the whole game was filled with em. Overall I enjoyed highway 17 the most. Although it is a linear game that whole section to me felt so open ended, and was the perfect scale needed to give it that epic quest feel. The bridge is a highlight. While i was in that building with the combine garrison on the cliffside right next to the bridge, I could distinctly hear some moaning howling noise, jumped down and there was a bloody toxic zombie. man that freaked me out. But it was the perfect place for it.

This is the only game that makes me want to replay a gunfight over and over again just so i can kill in the most coolest, stylish way. :D

At the very very start, the train noclipped up to me and the to other passangers, killing us.

I thought Nova Prospekt was absolutely fantastic. Great balance of strategy and pure fun

Gunship fight on the coast, with all the wrecked cars. Got the kill shot as it was making a run towards me. what made it so good was the "ohhh ****..." realisation and diving out of the way as it crashed onto the road right where id just been standing and slammed into a bunch of cars. ****ing awesome since it was the first time i'd ever played hl2.

I remember getting lost on the bridge. Seriously. I would run towards one point and go 'hey, this isn't where i came up...'

Quite frankly the best experience i had with HL2 was managing to down what, 4 gunships, without realising that the rocket goes where the laser goes. I thought 'laser guided' meant that it would lock on, i could fire it, and as long as the laser was over the target when i fired it it would just go. I thought the RPG, basically, was a fire and forget rpg.

The two gunships in Nova Prospekt become substantially more difficult when you keep getting hit by your own rockets.

One of my favourite parts was when you were being chased in the airboat and the combine
knock over that huge chimney. It was so dramatic watching it fall to the river.

Easily best part of the game.
Though, I tried driving past it and almost got squashed.

Ok...It would be replaying water hazard with a Dx9 card...i almost cried...

Oh another is right at the beginning after you put the can in the trash...or threw it at the guy and ran around him :p...and opened those doors to such a big town square with such beautiful graphics...omg that was awesome...

umm...Killing Breen.

Finally finishing Highway 17.

Umm...there is dozens more...

When DOG got hit by the Combine APC, and DOG jumps on top of it, starts beating it, picks it up and throws it into the group of Combines taking cover in the building.
