heres an explanation of what the "best music" shoud do for you...

action
fast. furious. adrenalin pumping. this is it. its me vurses them. me vurses the enemy. i can do this. i will do this. music starts getting louder This is it... my moment to shine! i am invincible!! hahah!!!! eat that!! yes!!! i will do this.. your bigger than me... yourbetter than me... but i am going to kill you.. AND LAUGH AT YOUR CORPSE!!!...BRING IT ****ING ON!!!
character rushes into certain death.
prat.

good examples:
in game: boss battles in final fantasy games
out of game: any good album (like lost prophets or linken park) with a FPS such as halo, or UT2004.

honour
Damn.
Damn the ****ers.
They killed her / the ship is exploding / im about to die / im a twat.
this is the final straw.
this maybe the moment of my doom... i may be rushing to my death... but i dont care. This is it. this is my revenge. for my country. for her. for me.
die.

Good examples:
in game: metal gear solid (the ****ers killed meryl... DAMMIT!!!) and halo.
Out of game: slow but powerful music is playing. Your in UT2004, onslaught mode. Your team is about to die. there is a redeemer up on a cliff... and a hell of a lot of enemies.
Bring it on!

if you didnt read above, read below...

im sure you can think of many more.
try and put a part of your fave song in a zip file, then attach it! just get a MP3 to WAV converter and, with the file as a WAV, cut out the best bit, zip it, and attach it here.

and please post an in game tune and an out of game tune. you dont really need to give examples of out of game songs, like albums, because im sure most people here can just buy the album :p

/me points out the illegality of this particular idea

The choir track when you exit into falling snow in halo's "Final Run". I'll try and get a clip if I can.

er... edited :)

and but seriously, if the song isnt on sale anywhere,... like the theme to final fantasy 7 or metal gear solid, theres no harm in downloading it, eh?

btw, the things i said about linking the tune probally wont work... 17 seconds in WAV format is 1 MB or soemthing, and in MP3 format is 270kb. i think the limit is 100kb, so...

Halo's OSD just kiked ass.... It was so epic, well-written. I think I just play the game till today thanks to it.

Deus Ex had music that really fit in with the game's atmosphere. I thought it was very well orchestrated. Although listening to them wwhile not playing the game does not have the same effect (they quickly become quite boring).

Still, the theme song ranks as one of the best.

Here's a link to download the theme:

>>>>>>>>>>>> DEUS EX THEME <<<<<<<<<<<<<

Even though it is Fileplanet, I did not have to wait in line.

EDIT: This is a revamped version

A blend of the PC version of the Deus Ex theme, and the orchestrated PS2 version. By Tim "The Mac" Morgan

Gotta love it :)

EDIT 2: If the link does not work try this:

>>>>>>>>>>>> 2nd LINK <<<<<<<<<<<<

Click on the bottom link that says "Deus Ex Theme Remix"

There's also some songs from a few levels as well, but their links take you to a very long queue line. Ahh Fileplanet, why can't you be quicker?

Metroid Prime has imo the best music of this console generation, and some of the best video game music ever.

i have some files.. but to fit on the site they have to be 6 seconds long ;(

btw, these are only the songs i have on my PC. if i had more i would show them ;) plus these sound CRAP as they are 6 secs long... :|

oh well, if anyone else want to do this as well...

btw, dont u think its a bit stupid that we can only post 100 kb files, yet we can post up to 500kb of 100 kb files?? y cant we just post a 500 kb file and nothing more!!! thats 35 seconds of music, which is better than 5 X 6 seconds!!!

I think you'll find Planescape Torment has the best music. Interestingly exotic, varied but above all else fitting. Whats more amazing is the creator had just 2 weeks yes *2 WEEKS* to do it all. Genius.

Some clips from some of my favorite games.

You need to Right-Click and select Save-As. Then open the file from wherever you saved it and enjoy.

:)

*EDIT* omfg http://www.vgmusic.com/ = best music site eva!!! so many somgs!!! nice one a true canadian ;)

I loved the soundtrack of the original Doom. Although it was midi, it was really cool at the time. It had some very cool "guitar" riffs and solos. Heres the file for the first level of doom 1:

Everything is in midi format, so it's not stellar quality; but hey, it works. It's interesting to hear those old tracks again.

Gotta go with Halo.

Symphony of the Night had some awesome music too.

Halo
FFVII music was good too. I wish I had some of the clips. Battle music for it is great and pretty much all of it is good.

its not just you x84D80Yx :)

and heres some i found on that site:

FF7 boss:
http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/sony/ps1/sarani.mid

btw... Nobuo Uematsu directs great music.

metal gear 2 patriotic:

metroid prime:
http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/gamecube/MP_MainMenu.mid

halo:
http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/microsoft/xbox/Halo2.mid

btw all these tunes have been done on a keyboard... so they sound no-where near as good as when they are in the game :|

*edit* u gotta right click save as

Suicide 42, I have the Halo Buddy DVD and it has that Halo 2 music in high-quality, that site seems to have recorded it off a TV with a comp mic or something....

edit - just read it.. keyboard...

seiously, the only way anyone is going to get any of these song without being very lucky, or having some shitty keyboard song, is by :O shareware :O

but i wouldnt reccomend that would i?

and even if i was to reccomend that, i would DEFINATELY not reccomend WINMX... with its easy to use searching , tons of users and NO SHAREWARE...
but why would i want to do something as ghastly as suggest shareware? i mean, even though the companies dont lose money because the songs arent for sale... cor...

but seriously...
WHAT IS THE POINT IN A SITE WITH OVER 16,000 SONGS... FOR VIDEO GAMES... THAT HAVE BEEN MADE WITH A KEYBOARD PROGRAM!!! not even a REAL keyboard!!! i was all exited there thinking they were the real thing...

on a different note...
THEIF 3 IS GONNA COME THORUGH MY LETTERBOX TOMMORROW!!!11!!one!!1!

Dungeon Siege
Total Annihilation
Freespace 1&2
Interstate 76
UT2k4
Halo

Those games just have awesome music.

I have a huge list of favorite music from games, UT2k4 main theme, Hurricane Strings from HL, NWN Forest battle theme and Hordes of the Underdark large battle music, some things from the C&C series, and definately a whole bunch of things from chrono trigger.

i loved ut2k4's music, but thats just me :\

agreed.

Raven Shield had pretty decent music. although pretty much the whole Rainbow Six series has an above average musical score. naturally Star Wars games have a great soundtrack (Jedi Knight series, X-Wing Alliance, X-Wing vs Tie-Fighter).

naa, theyre crap. it says "disclaimer: may or not be true", and i would rather NOT have them, and just let people read the obvious text without thinking im some sort of pussy :p

Halo.period.

Gotta love the halo2 souudtrack, E3 2003 demo proves this.

The only high quality one I've been able to find is the one in my earliest post (Deus Ex). And as for www.vgmusic.com, yes the songs do not sound that great. The whole point was to get an idea of how the real things sounded like.

Here's some more...

Perfect Dark (Pellagic II X):

http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/n64/Pelagic_II_X.mid

Perfect Dark (Training XG):

http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/n64/ks_perfda_training.mid

The last one almost sounds like the real thing. I'll try to find a better music site. Until then, enjoy.

Yeah, I agree, but I liked Doom 2's music better. Star Wars music is good, so Jedi Knight, etc. games have good music. All of the Myst games have great music, especially how it goes along with the things that you see and the feel of the environment.

I loved the sound in Thief 3. Not exactly great songs or anything, but the sound effects just fit the atmosphere of the game very well, especially in the cradle level.

Top Gear 2
Final Fantasy VI
Deus Ex

Thief 3 has very good auido

Every piece of music from Final Fantasy VII. If anyone knows where I can get them (not midi's) then please PM me.

Halo
Deus Ex
Half-Life

But the king of them all is Grim Fandango

Unreal Tournament 2004 Deathmatch

Arcanum

Sim City 2000

Dungeon Siege (main theme)

Final Fantasy VIII

I like to visit the Game Music Archive on Zophar's Domain ( www.zophar.net ) and listen to some old game music like Cool Spot, Secret Of Mana, Super R-Type and other sweet stuff. You'll need Winamp plugins (witch can be found on the page) however.
I recommend you retro guys to visit it. ;)

Other nice in-game music must be the one played in Chozo Ruins in Metroid Prime, I liked that one.
The main theme song of NOLF 1 & 2 was quite good.
And of course lots of FinalFantasy songs. My favorites are the boss songs in FFVII and the song played when you fight the boss before the one-winged angel in FF7 (you who played it know of whom I speak. ;))

I'm guessing everyone forgot Aeris's Theme from FFVII ?
One of the more emotional pieces from any game I've heard. However, Halo Fanboys can't find ANYTHING at fault with their game, ho well ........

Halo:
Covenant Dance
"Lost Song"
The Maw

Outcast, all tracks. (made by Moscow symphony orchestra)

All Jedi Knight games. (but that's not music made specifically for the game)

But the king of them all is Grim Fandango
