^ A reference to orange juice. :)

What will be the best sandbox game coming out this year?

Sandbox game: A video game with a non linear plot, which set's the player loose in one giant map allowing them to complete the main story at there pace. < For people you like the undersides of rock's (I care about the rock people wont you vote for me?)

Now this pole isn't exactly be fair such as in the case of GTA IV vs [Prototype]. One is in a realistic world the other same world but unrealistic enemy's and main character (don't know use google) but I feel like wasting time and you can't stop me! :insert Dennis Hopper villain laugh:
btw I'm voting for [Prototype] < Pure epic win!

btw 2 As I'm reading over my post just now, it seems my jokes are funner if you think about that yahtzee guy who does those reviews saying them.

GTA IV, no question.

No other game does sandbox gaming as well as the GTA series.

Prototype if they get it right.

You should've made a topic called "What's the second best sandbox game this year?" and not included GTAIV ... results would've been a bit less one-sided.

How can you pick best sandbox when the games aren't even OUT?

This thread has more fail innit than George W. Bush's presidency..

I picked GTA IV, but honestly, I worry that they reduced the sandbox factor a couple fold for the sake of everything being more beautifully woven.

From the sound of the previews it seems like it's just as sandboxy as all the others, if not more. You have just as much freedom in driving around, exploring, and shooting up random people as you did before, but now everything just works better.

GTA IV

Also Looking forwrd to:
SPORE
Far Cry 2

Darn it really look's like I messed up with this poll. Sorry. I didn't include Spore cause it's kind of unfair to pit a god game against a game like GTA IV. There not really in the same field.

I will rent GTA IV to give it a chance to wow me but I'm not betting on it. I prefer Mercenaries. I think it's better then the GTA series. I like war zones more then urban city's and killing enemy soldier NPCs more then innocent NPCs. And in that Mercs seems a bit more civilized. There a penalty in Mercs when you kill civ's or ally's.

And the Air vehicle controls are so much better then in GTA: SA. OMFG those vehicle controls were horrible. I had to press like all four shoulder buttons to get the stupid plane to turn and stay leveled. But that's me. If you like GTA good for you but I don't.

I see Prototype as a separate entity then Mercenaries or GTA. Which is why I can love it or 'will' love it as much or more as Mercs. It' in a different category.

If you don't know or think Google is the debull Prototype tells the story of Alex Mercer (pronounced Mer.ser) a genetic whatsit that look's human (might be might not)
and has the ability to shape shift by "absorbing" someone to gain there knowledge and the appearance. If he absorbs a a high ranking soldier he can lead other soldiers.

Alex pop's up in New York City in true video game cliche fashion not knowing a thing about himself or what he does. At the same time a virus that mutates people into monsters is set loose. Alex then battles Humans and the infected to... do stuff (probably involves the story). Alex can also absorb the infected monster's and gain there abilities. Growing claw hands, punching the ground and spike's coming out even morphing his hole body into a shielded form that can knock around cars when he runs.

As you can see from my... brief explanation Prototype is more science fiction sandbox then realistic sandbox. So it's different from Mercs.

spore Spore sPore spOre spoRe sporE SPore sPOre spORe spoRE SPOre sPORe spORE SPORe sPORE SPORE

Spore is beyond sandbox, it's more like the whole damned playground.

I know it's cool, but something makes me think Spore just isn't going to be all that at the end of the day. There's no losing in terms of how bizarre you make your beasties from what I've read, which kind of defeats the whole point of it surely. Still I'll see what the reviews say when it's out.

How does it "defeat the whole point of it", that you can create anything, if the point of the game is to create anything what you want, and not to "win"? This is not a goal-orientated game!

Actually you can even do "sandboxing" with things without playing through the game, if you just enter the game, and click on the certain editor.

GTA IV, no contest, from what we're hearing its the best GTA yet so, well, could be one of the greatest games ever. Wouldnt be surprised if it breaks a few records whilst its at it.

Spore could be good too though, if they finally get around to releasing it...

I'll say Just Cause 2 and Far Cry 2 just to be special.

Wheres Farcry 2?

Any way my vote is for either Prototype or GTA. But I'm more interested in prototype at the moment

Mercenaries 2!

I despise GTA
Battlefield:B C is going to be sandbox?!?

I'll say Just Cause 2 and Far Cry 2 just to be special.
If you liked Just Cause you are special. And I envy you. To be able to look past flaws....huge flaws and enjoy a game that's cool. But to your credit I read an article in gameinformer that say's the developers made a list of things players complained about (wow what a list) and are fixing it. So it could redeam Just Cause 1and be a good game.

GTA IV. Some of the others look promising and could well surpass it in terms of freedom and choice (lookin' at you, Prototype), but there's too many ifs buts and maybes about them. With a series like GTA you're pretty much guaranteed a quality, fun and lasting sandbox game.

There's no losing in terms of how bizarre you make your beasties from what I've read, which kind of defeats the whole point of it surely.
What would you prefer, a GAME OVER screen if you give your creature too many faces?

I had to vote for the underdog, as everybody would be voting for GTA4. *Am I the only person not really interested in the entire series, and thinks it's all over hyped?*
