I've had access to it all day, almost gloating at the fact that I've had the new Steam user interface on my computer while you've all been using the traditional skin. Here I was, waiting for confirmation to be allowed to amaze you all with an exclusive preview of the Steam UI and what happens? It gets leaked before I was given permission... typical![br]

[br]A massive improvement I think, but why not judge for yourself? If you want to access this, right now, then all you need to do is right click on your Steam shortcut, go to Properties, and change the target to have "-clientbeta betaui" at the end. For example:[br]"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -clientbeta betaui[br]To remove the changes and go back to the old user interface, just remove the "-clientbeta betaui" part from your shortcut and then restart Steam, where it will redownload the correct platform files for the original Steam interface.[br]There's a number of bugs in this new one, but bear in mind that no one was really supposed to see this until next week, so if you want to contribute to the development of it, you can report any bugs on Valve's Wiki, here.

i'm really dissappointed in it. It's not very good looking. The style looks like crap comared to the sleek version out now. Is it an optional add-on?

At the moment it is optional, but once it is released then you will have to use it.

Give it time, you'll learn to like it. You're just scared of change :p

I dunno about the poster before me, but this skin looks neat, and it's easier to navigate.

Always like change, especially since we've had the design we have right now for 2 or so years.

It is very nice and clean :p

Makes it look much more modern.

it IS nice, but looks like we won't be having custom games sub-lists :x
i doubt they'll code it in in a single week

This is beta. I don't think the final version will be released in a week.

so what did Chris_D mean then ?
There's a number of bugs in it, but bear in mind that no one was really supposed to see this until next week

The new UI is supposed to be released before Rag Doll Kung Fu (released on Wednesday 12th October) and it was never planned to release the beta version of it.

that's what i was saying. i doubt a major function like customizable game sublists will be coded in the beta stage, just a week prior to release.

at any rate this new skin is really nice, even if it doesn't add much to the previous one

That is one of the ugliest layouts I've ever seen. It looks like it was designed for 8 year olds.

Oh do be quiet unless you have something constructive (EDIT: and/or intelligent) to say.

Good to see we still have people with sand in their vaginas.

Wouldnt be HL2.net without the constant bitching.

Well... the majority of CS players...

On a slightly more serious note, the layout kicks ass.

and how exactly is one saying that he likes the skin more constructive and/or intelligent ?

If you're updating a game it lists how much it is completed and how fast it is going in the games list.

Suppose I should switch back after checking it out, takes 70 megs of ram :/

I like it, pitty that there is no way of hiding games. But I like the new "Not installed" sub-menu

EDIT: They've finally changed the text in the Friends list to say that it is under repairs! Should put a stop to the occasional topic asking how to sign on to the thing

Exactly. I think it sucks. Just my opinion.

/OH NOES I CRITICIZED VALVE

I like it how you can browse servers from any game without having to open it :D

You've always been able to do that...

I think it is an improvement over the last steam interface, though I do wish one could organize their games rather than just sort them alphabetically... or by update.

^^^ yea they really need to let us hide games we don't want always on display in the window... that is really annoying.

Yes and organizing has been much needed for a long time... i wonder why they don't want to implement it...

HL:S is avaiable to buy for $10 now. I thought they hadn't made it buyable seperate?

I don't like the buttons that's all, should be more sleeker. But I can live with it.

Good to see people constructively criticizing through the wiki. Oh yea, I went there.
