Bioshock 2 Reviews

Civil war prequel plz
then maybe I'll buy another bioshock.

or wait - how about a submarine game, or a fishing game where you control the fishermen from original bioshock!

I saw your post on /v/ the other day. Some guy was trying to get your bitgamer account banned because you posted a screenshot. Made me lol

yes...I'm watching you.

I'm going to wait for a price drop. also Total War is on sale on Steam for $13 that sounds like a more fun choice at this point

RockPaperShotgun Wot I Think (their equivalent of a review)

You’ve been a PC gamer for years. The lights of Ultima Underworld, System Shock and Deus Ex still shine as brightly as ever in your mind. You’ll probably hate Bioshock 2 on principle. That’s a shame. It’s a much better shooting game than the first one.

Okay, theyve made a choice which has pissed me off a bit.

Apparently every Big Daddy fight is now scripted...err, fail.

Still had it pre-ordered though. Only got round to watching reviews yesterday. Hate when the majority of reviews come out on the day of release.

Thanks for posting this. It cemented my decision to not get this until its bargain bin price, like the last Bioshock.

Nope, Big Daddy fights can be approached the same as the first.

Hmm, GT said otherwise.

Unless I missunderstood what they meant when they said it was scripted.

I had this vision of all Big Daddy fights being in rooms where you trigger the attack by doing something like pulling a lever, or walking across the invisible trigger line and a BD would crash through some glass and start attacking you etc. Like mini-bosses that dont walk around.

I think it was the Big Sister fights they were talking about. The BD encounters should be the same as in the first game.

RockPaperShotgun is one of the better gaming sites imo. They review games as gamers, not as journalists.

Haha, someone did? I just posted the screenshot and then left the thread. People are so silly.

Question: I have come across some $$$. Should I buy this, wait for something better, or buy Mass Effect 2

I beat it. Enjoyed it quite a bit. Most of the review are right, the sense of mystery is gone, and the characters aren't as memorable. The music is better and the story is on par with Bioshock 1 IMO. But there's no big twist at the end and your goal is known pretty much throughout the game. The ending is more satisfying than the first (I was the good guy), though, there's not really a final boss fight. Honestly, if you liked the first, you'll probably like this one. Otherwise, steer clear.

I was incorrect in saying Big Daddy fights aren't scripted. There are still roaming Big Daddies like the first, but there are also quite a few scripted battles as well. It makes sense and it's only with a certain type. Big Sisters usually only appear after you've dealt with all of the Little Sisters in the level.

This shouldn't be a question, but yes, get Mass Effect 2, why ? simple answer you get more gameplay and game length for your money. Get Bioshock 2 when it hits the bargain bin.

Played the multiplayer for a while with a friend; it's quite entertaining. The only problem is that the Big Daddy suit is unbalanced in team deathmatch.

If I had to choose between ME2 and Bioshock 2...If I didnt have one or the other, I'd get ME2. Theres too many hours to be had from that game, its arguably the best value for money game ever created. I mean, 50+ hours (potentially) is insane.

I havent even started ME2 yet, or Bioshock 2 for that matter, but I know that I will be going through every possible thing in ME2 before I start that final mission. Wonder how many hours it will clock in at.

I got B2 because I loved B1, but Ive never been expecting anything groundbreaking.

I think the best value games are ones with multiplayer that keep you playing for a long time. Any single player game I can just rent and beat within 5-7 days. I even beat ME2 in 4 days and did practically everything you can in 1 play-through. There's nothing wrong with paying full price for it. It's a great game to have in your collection.

Maybe I just don't link spending my money, but I want something I'll play for several months into the future. There aren't many games like that anymore. It seems campaigns have been shortened to about 4-8 hours on average and that simply isn't worth $60 in my opinion. Just the other day I played Army of Two: The 40th day and completed it in 3 and a half hours. Who in their right mind would full price for that?

I want this, but I'm going to get it when it's the price of the Expansion Pack it should have been anyway.

This feels more like an expansion pack than a sequel. Storyline lacks compared to the original.
There's hardly any twists, if any at all. Not a very satisfying ending and it feels a bit disconnected from the original. Multiplayer is ok but laggy thanks to matchmaking. 7/10

An easily forgettable game, if you ask me.

Thing is, I prefer the singleplayer experience. MP these days are just full of people who become obsessed and get so good that its pointless playing.

Case in point: CS, CoD, DoD, WoW etc etc etc.

Even a game like L4D does lose its appeal after a few completions, even if you've convinced yourself otherwise. Yeah it has the editor, but that doesnt change the setting. And lets face it, theres always zombies in the same areas so its not THAT much of a change each time. Changing where you do the same thing isnt that appealing anymore.

I prefer getting involved in a game's story and getting the emotions out of it. Like I almost cried at the end of Uncharted 2 the first time I played through. I cried back in Baldur's Gate, and in MGS4.

SP is so much better.

Man, I thought The Darkness had some laggy MP. This game has some of THE LAGGIEST MP I've ever experienced.

Overall the game was dissapointing, but the end was by far the most captivating part of the game, and somewhat made up for the game as a whole.

The "Rapture is just the beginning" thing that Eleanor speaks of, seems to pave the way for a third game.

I finished this yesterday as well. Played some multiplayer today and it was surprisingly good. There seems to be some freezing issues on the 360 though. The MP seems to lock up every 30-45 minutes on me, usually in the post game report.

I must admit, the more I play of this the better it is getting. I am totally sick of defending the little sister though. So much so that after adopting the latest one I just took her to the nearest rescue place. I can sacrifice some Adam for the tedium of a defence sub game.

EDIT:- Finished it now and I have to say the single player certainly picks up around the half way section. Although there are not any truly great moments like the Cohen level from the original, there are some quite good attempts at it later on. I have yet to try multi, and won't bother until they fix what the latest patch broke in it. It's just a shame it takes the game so long to find it's stride that you only have half a game worth that can be deemed a good follow up to the original.

Not the disaster I originally believed it to be though.

One of my favourite bits:-

Finally finished it. These guys know how make a final part drag the f*ck on, but the ending was much more satisfying than the first game.

i'm glad i read this thread before making a stupid decision based purely on boredom.

Another sloppy PC port. The textures in the game are worse than the original.
