I have, quite simply, NEVER seen water look that good. It actually looks like its real...its just...the whole game looks...just....

Screw the PC, im getting this on the 360 for 100% graphical and fps bliss.

Damn it, i cant wait now!

Looks absolutely amazing. An absolute must-have.

Looks cool, but it might get booring after a few levels! Gun animation/sounds has to be changed tho, and the fire looks horrible.

Other than that its shaping up good

That was pretty damn incredible! Some of that seems like it would be the stuff of nightmares.

That lucky bastard has a gravity gun hand!

Bio-shock got a notch down for me after I found out that apparently you can't harm or kill the little sisters...only harvest adam from already dead ones...lame!

also the latest videos, although they adress my initial concern that the game was too slow in the combat department, seem to have taken it too far and the game seems to FPS-ish...here's hoping it's still System shock quality and they simply won't show the other stuff because of spoilers...

Ugh that is a bit rubbish.. I hope that is just rumor. Then again ESRB might be a little less inclined towards child killing lately.

lol @ the oirish character giving the protaganist info through a radio or whatever...

graphics and atmosphere are amazing, i just hope the gameplay and combat will be consistently good...

confirmed by the developer so it's no rumor...

some lame bioshock developer said:
in BioShock, you cannot harm the little Sister in any way… you cannot use your weapons against a Little sister, or set her on fire, or send your swarm of insects after her like you can the other AIs in the world. All we allow the players to do is to make the moral choice of harvesting the Adam from them, a process they will not survive, that?s true, or to save them, to turn them back into what appears to be normal little children. And that choice is not graphically shown in any way. It is really sort of suggested.

Looks like a bunch of scripted events in some cases :|

Still looks awesome and clearly a must-have, but I am also worried about the gameplay, just like everyone else. Let's hope for the best

So they're lame because they had two good reasons for not letting you kill a little girl in a game?

First of all, a lot of the testers apparently killed the LS' by accident, thus being forced to reload the game since they didn't want to play the game like that.

Second, if they had let you kill the LS' the game would have gotten an Adults Only rating, basically making the game unavailable through major retail outlets.

every single detail is truly a next gen apart from the A.I....

I think the AI is a bit slow in taking actions, based on what we saw with FEAR's one

*5 stars out *5

This game has every special effect I've ever seen.

One thing I'd love to see in games is that they don't reload the exact same way every time. It makes the game old fast, and takes me right out of the immersion that I'm in the game. At that point I realize I'm only playing a game. But that says a lot for the game doesn't it?

It's sweet the way he reloads the pistol - just think it would be +2 if they could have an animation shader that could randomly pick between 2 or 3. At least for weapons with such a unique reload like that.

This game is going to be the ultimate game to have. Reminds me of those 'scary' movies with the fun house.

Looks great but don't think it'll have much replayability. Hopefully modding tools will be released with it...

that video is absolutely amazing. im pumped. when is the game supposed to be released??

New effects. Same old formula.

Our survey says: X

Agreed. This video has completley killed the hype for me. It seemed so revolutionary until they showed us their utterly shitty combat system, dumb AI, stupid voiceovers, pointless powers and ugly weapons in this trailer.

I'm sorry, but this video does one thing and one thing only: shows us how terrible the combat is in Bioshock.

SS2 combat sucked, and that didn't ruin the game.

The first few levels are supposed to be dead linear. The consists of footage taken from these very levels.

Never been impressed, even less so now. There are times when the hype gets to me and I get tempted. Then this comes along and brings me back to my senses.

All scripted. The map names are probably among the lines of e3_demo_script_01.

Okay, maybe fully like that, but very much.

I don't know what you guys are talking about, this game says pre-order all the way, and that's from watching it on a little you-tube vid that looked like total shit.'

yeah, the pipe wrench isn't as good as condemned, may or may not be as fun to use as a crowbar (HL2), but at least more useful than the fists in Doom 3, and looks a hell of a lot more fun to use than the pipe wrench in Prey - which is a great game once you get a projectile weapon. The pistol = eh, fair enough. But these are just little starter weapons that you may not even use past the first level.

But there is an entire game here. I can't name 1 game that looks more interesting that it right now. I can't wait to explore the levels.

So how do you know if the skill level was set to easy (probably) or what not.

This game looks tight as shit, you can use a force to throw a barrel or whatever and blow up a room with image bending ripple effects. I like it.

Hopefully you can mod it too. The mod community for this game - if they have a nice editor, will probably be really really cool. New weapons, new gameplay, new enemies, new areas.. well, I should stop salivating until I find out for sure if you can even do a proper mod though.

I mean, I'm certainly not trying to say your opinions are wrong, but I'm surprised that you guys didn't like it is all I'm saying.

okay wow, I just watched this trailer and the game looks incredibly generic.

Pseudo-industrial location with generic enemies leaping at you, you shooting back with generic guns (not even modeled/animated well which makes the difference nowadays), using generic powers (lightning bolts, wow i haven't seen that ability ever...get that chain lightning to arbitrary level 14).

As a first impression, it's decidedly lackluster.

Effects look awesome..but the game looks a bit meh...I'm not really seeing anything innovative in terms of gameplay, which is what I was honestly hoping for tbh.....

Just noticed this is pre-alpha content. Yeah basically the rough sandbox development cycle stage. ;)

Attaboy Bioshock. Shodan would be proud... she watches over ye from License limbo...
also the latest videos, although they adress my initial concern that the game was too slow in the combat department, seem to have taken it too far and the game seems to FPS-ish...
I like the look of combat actually. Perhaps it seems quick because the player character has boosted Agility stats? Beats System Shock 2 anyhow. I killed far too many of that game's enemies with the wrench :/

edit: as interesting as the enemies are, I can't help but think they seem very true to the System Shock model so far... Those women are like the Cyborg Midwives, the Big Daddies are Rumblers...

You people disgust me, judging Bioshock from a video made to sell the game to the masses of FPS-hungry jocks.

Ken owns you.

RE: Action.

Playing some of the roughly 40,000 words of recorded audio from logs/radios doesn't exactly sell the game to a larger market.

Going into detail on the dozens and dozens of stat changing gene tonics doesn't exactly move the larger market.

Talking about the details of the research system doesn't exactly move the larger market.

Elucidating the hacking and invention system doesn't exactly move the needle with the larger market.

Showing movies of min/maxing decision making doesn't exactly draw the eye of the larger market.

But those things, to me, are a lot of what makes BioShock Bioshock.

As I always said, BioShock is a shooter. I considered Shock 2 a shooter. I would wager BioShock is as deep as Shock 2. The shooting is about 1000 times better. Why? Effects, AI, and most importanly environmental interaction and physics, which your Plasmids, gene tonics and weapons give you incredible amount of control over.

So, yes, we're not hard-selling the geekier aspects of the game. I've said this before. But you know what? People are taking notice. BioShock is tracking to be very, very big.

I have no interest in making games that nobody plays. I also have no interest in dumbed down monkey fests (unless, of course, there are actual monkeys)

We're making a shooter with min maxing character growth, moral choices, a detailed enconomy and upgradeable weapons...oh, yeah, and it's a period piece set in a failed capitalist underwater utopia with a novelistic background...

Games like that don't spring from market research. They spring from the guts of game developers who want to break a bunch of rules.

Ha! I love how the Little Sister eggs him on, "Kill him!" "Hurt him, Mr. B! Hurt him!" and he throws her on his back for an attack. Awesome.

while i never really planned on killing the LSes in bioshock, i'm a little dissappointed in the removal of the ambiguous moral conflicts that the possibility of killing one would entail.

I'm sure someone will mod it back in a week after 0-day though

You still kill them. You just can't point a gun at them and do it. The way it's done is that your character grips the LS and pulls her off the screen. You hear screams and gushy noises, then your hands return bloody with some sort of organ in them

Quite grizzly.

I bet my ass within a reasonable amount of time a mod will be released that will restore the LS' mortality.

EDIT: Also, immortal LS is kind of stupid, because knowing that you could kill a source of Adam would force you to reconsider your attack methods. Currently, it will be just a run-gun-explosives combat.

I'm sure Irrational have considered this. I for one don't mind the invulnerability, I suck at FPS, and would most likely kill the LS without intending to.

And then you woke up?

Aha, sorry but all i could think of when i was reading that was this:

If you watch you can actually kill them, but they seem to take alot of damage??? When hes catching the grenades and fighting the big daddy i could swear i see her fall and not get up? Or was that just...her falling and not getting up but still alive?

Those 7 minutes did their job for me. I downloaded all the media from the official site and am now looking forward to BioShock along with a computer that will run it.

It will probably look even better on a PC. That video is from the 360 version.
