Bioshock world premiere video tonight on IGN

It reminds me a lot of deus ex invisible war. Only with more unique enemies.

This is for me the only game that matters at the moment. It's running on a 360 is the video, and considering it's pretty far off, they have lots of time to improve the framerate.

God, that looks so good. This reminds me of when I first saw the HL-2 videos.

The servers are going crazy. But I'm glad to hear the Deus Ex similarities. Irrational won't mess this up, I'm sure of it.

love:
environment/atmosphere
graphics/style of them
open-ended gameplay

don't love:
the big daddy/little sister relationship doesn't really make sense to me
does look a little slow, but that might be a factor of the xbox 360 and the control setup

Very nice - the water was done incredibly well, and the big daddy/little sister getup was creepier than I imagined from the stills. I do hope to see at least a faster walking speed (plasmids notwithstanding). Even the splicer, who didn't necessarily look creepy was a little disturbing with the rambling she was doing while protecting the disk.

Wow. That was so awesome. I like how you manipulate everything! Even enemies!

Watching now. Having heard ZERO hype or information for this game I have to say I like the atmosphere a lot and the story seems unique.

Gameplay so far seems like it could be good depending on how good the AI really is and what kind of missions we'll go on (hopefully there's enough to do in this open-ended world).

Also, is the only environment in this mall? So far the guy has only talked about how far in the mall we can go. An underwater society is one I want to explore fully.

EDIT: Also, so far I don't like that the civilization is pretty much in complete ruin...I want to interact with people and the community. So far from the demo it feels a little too much like a Doom kind of world where you're the only one on your side barring a few side-chars.

You'll get to explore every nook and cranny of Rapture.

The Mall is just one of the areas.

You can see the System Shock 2 and Deus Ex influences. It seems that this may be the spiritual successor to both games in a way !

I agree I really don't like the doom-esque or prey-esque type feel. I want a more bright and beautiful type of thing.

I'm pretty sure you get to interact with a few characters. I've read interviews where they developers have mentioned that the game's outcome depends on how you interact with most of the main story guys.

I know Ken Levine is working on this project and he worked as W/D/S(Writing, Dialogue, Story) on SS2 but does anyone know if there're any more people? Like say, Jonathan Chay? I'd assume Jonathan Chay because he worked on SS2, some of the Thief games, Tribes Vengenance, SWAT 4(And it's addon), he was the Project Manager, one of the two lead programmers and one of the two lead AI programmers on SS2.:)
Anyway, I'm immensely looking forward to this, Irrational Games are pretty darn good imo.:D

Well, considering this is supposed to be a 'spiritual' successor to SS2 I wouldn't say it's the same if you had a ton of people around.:)

Definitely looks like a FPS to check out but Im not crazy hyped about it. I really dont see anything to original. But it does look like it could be a good game, however Im still more impressed with Crysis.

Agent.M, have you played System Shock 2? If you haven't, then there's not that big a surprise you don't understand why people are so excited for this, System Shock 2 is a great classic, sure CryTek did Far Cry but Far Cry wasn't THAT impressive, heck, in terms of gameplay I think the Far Cry games on the XB1 are better, and those aren't even done by CryTek but by Ubisoft(iirc)

Agent.M, have you played System Shock 2?

Yah I did a long time ago but that was just cause my friend had it so I played it on his computer. I never played it for an extended amount of time or anything.

Yah I never said that I thought Crysis was more original! Im just saying that Im more impressed with it than Bioshock.

Haha that's rich, Crysis better than Bioshock.

Bioshock features so much that is different to every other generic fps shooter. Mainly your free to do as you wish, you can fiddle with practicly everything in the game, awesome AI relationships and all manner of other cool things. A few people have said it looks slow, maybe becuase they're demonstrating the game in a 15 minute trailer. Your free to play it as you wish, that doesn't mean you'll live long.

The overall look , feeling and atmosphere looks great , though some things I didn't like: The slow pace of walking , they should speed it up a little , but I could live with it of only they didn't make "sprinting" a skill. That's just stupid to treat sprinting as a "skill" that can be replaced , give the player the option of running like every living being in the world.

The human bodies and the splincers have a very plastic shiny look , seen the best when we first encounter the (dead) Splincer , so i don't know if it's intentional , but it doesn't make it look good.

Health bars on the enemies you fight? don't know what to make of it.
I have to say , from this video only , I really dislike the gun he is using , one shot gun , kinda slow paced , the sound isn't good and in general the gun play doesn't look to be too impressive.

Still , looking forward for it , can turn out to be a great game.

The health bars can be explained as the game is part RPG after all.

Looks excellent, can't wait. I like the atmosphere, the story sounds extremely interesting and the graphics look mind-blowingly good. My only gripe is the slow pace, and the slight over complexity of things.
The whole little girl thing, while an interesting idea, seems a little overdone to the point of just being bleh when he was talking about it.

Bioshock>Crysis.

Looks great :)

I think the slow pace suits a game like this - adds to the tension and all that good stuff.

When I see short videos like that I just try to look at the graphics more than just focus on the gameplay because that was such a small sample of gameplay you can't have a wide enough view of the game to base an opinion of it. Unless you see something really bad, or really good, something that would be detrimental to the game experience, but I saw nothing of that nature.

But...the...water....

Best water I've seen to date, prior to that Half-Life 2 was still king of the water world.

Get it? You're in a water world for Bioshock? yes, thank you.

Indeed the water is marvelous. That's one of the thing they must have really set out for to create the atmosphere. Makes you wonder how it will end, I'd imagine after some time that place will be nothing but rubble.

Again as for the pace it's really a survival horror game if you think about it, now most of these types of games are slow on purpose. Anyway didn't anyone notice the use of that speed Plasmid? Zoom zoom.

When the Big Daddy first gets the little sister from the hole.. the water pouring down on him and moving accordingly, noice.

We are Michael J Fox. Or we have Dwarf legs. Or we are riding a clown bike with square wheels. Whatever the reason, that gun bob is just downright annoying.

On the whole, motion is probably one of only two negative things I can say about this game... mind you, motion problems have a rather devestating effect on how much you enjoy a game, or so I feel anyway. For instance, Halo which always felt far too floaty. Same with Unreal 2. I hope they fix it.

Also, I hope they make the interface more like System Shock 2 for the PC version. The current (360) version is something like Deus Ex: Invisible War. Fine for consoles, but it entirely cuts the PC's mouse functionality out.

i didnt see the trailer yet, but from the previews i read
Bioshock > Crysis for sure

Still think HL2 has prettier water, since it uses reflections with fresnel effects which make water that you look at from a high angle less reflective and more refractive than water from a low angle. The water as shown in the bathroom was fully reflective, more like a distorted mirror than water.

But HL2's water isn't as practical, you can only have 1 layer of visible expensive water at a time.

As for the game, it looks good, but hardly a revolution of FPS games from what I saw. Just a System Shock/Deus Ex of 2006.

Looks cool. The bob and the clunky UI have to go tho.

Oh, and I find the guy narrating it all pretty annoying.

Oh... my god. That looks amazing. No... beautiful is the right word. Not just the game itself, but the water and the enviroment looks great. I love the fountains and the steaming water pipes, the way the water was falling on the Big Daddy (who sounds and looks fuppin' awesome, too) and the green-ish light coming in from that tanj of water int he first few minutes. Another game to my 360 list, most definatly!

Looks good but i dont like the action. The sounds of the guns are really bad and it seems to..to...consoly. Maybe because he played on an Xbox360 i guess.

Othervise i loved the environments and the creativity and the setting. Awesome
