So I was thinking about investing in a really high end, top of the line blender. I've wanted to have a really, really good blender for a long time now.

I respect the notion that a blender is an investment, and it's something you treasure. I can only be reminded of scenes from various movies where people have a bond with their blender.

Do any of you own a really nice blender? Do you use a blender a lot?

I've been thinking of either getting a Blendtec blender, or Vitamix. Those seem to be the two competing companies. From the research I've been doing, the vitamix seem to be the better of the two, but the differences aren't incredibly remarkable.

The Vitamix model I was thinking of getting is called the Vitamix 5200. Vitamix sounds stupid, more so than Blendtec which sounds pretty cool... but apparently they make a mean blender. It's unfortunate that most of the consumer base seems to be vegans and vegetarians though. I don't care about any of that crap... I just want a really good blender that can handle almost anything I throw at it, especially ice cubes.

$550 investment, which isn't cheap. But it has a 7 year warranty, is apparently incredibly awesome and the same quality they use at juice shops. I think it would be a good investment.

That is one hell of a blender. Why such an expensive one though? It can't be that much better than, say, a 100 dollar blender?

I wish that were the case. But every cheap blender I've tried(and $100 is a pretty cheap blender), is not up to snuff. The motor burns out, things break too easily, and a whole slew of other technical problems. The high end blenders are designed to chew up anything you throw at them, operate for long periods, and for many many years. The nice thing about high end blenders at 2-3hp is that they spin the blades at 200mph, and you don't get left with little grainy bits of food, you don't have the bits of seed of you blend strawberries. You can blend flax seeds and other grains into flours that is not really that possible with other lesser blenders.

I see. You do seem a heavy user though with the ice and all.

btw You also made me want to have a smoothy when it is 01:47 AM and I need to go to bed ...

Before this thread I had absolutely no idea people were that passionate about their blenders. Now I'm a bit intrigued.

I bought a cheap Hamilton Beach blender almost exclusively to make chocolate shakes, and that junk nearly caught fire with smoke and a burnt out motor on the second use.

Buy one from the '50s, '60s or '70s at a flea market or something, for like $5. They don't make shit like that anymore without spending hundreds of dollars. If you really must get a nice shiny new one, get one made in America.

By the way, the topic came up at work at the time, and a co-worker gave me an old blender. You might be able to get one for free. LOL don't spend $600 or whatever on a blender

Well I mean you could get a Blendtec, but then you wouldn't be able to breathe around it. I'm pretty sure it converts even liquids into a fine, toxic mist.

What kind of horsepower on those old models, what kind of durability and quality of the blend?

I'm intrigued if they can actually match up to the new ones.

I certainly know none of the blenders I've tried have been good at all. motors burning up, unable to handle ice, unable to fully and smoothly blend stuff without being chunks of vegetable or fruit. I want the ability to have a really creamy consistency.

I'm all for buying something cheaper that can do the job just as well. But I don't want to buy another blender that ends up being a waste of money because it just can't handle the ice or the vegetables.

Hmm... weird. This is a video showing the cheaper one winning out against the better ones. But it's the first video/review of it's type that I've seen that. They may not have adjusted the speed control and stuff, since the vitamix and blendtec have varying speeds to start slow, then speed up to get everything.

Was hoping the thread was about this:

The BlendTec blender really needs some better LidTec.

Halflife2.net, after all these years, has been reduced to discussing blenders. In-depth analysis of blenders.

I've literally never used a blender in my entire life.

I have a Vitamix and it is a great blender. Most definitely worth the money and is hands down better than lesser, cheaper blenders.
That being said I haven't used a Blendtec or know much about them either.

Blenders are awesome.

I used to make some pretty epic banana choc thickshakes. **** now I want my old blender back...

I have that Kitchenaid blender, which I got for $50 on sale at Amazon. It does work quite well, but every once in a while you need to turn it off and push what you're trying to blend down into the jar. I've been meaning to get on of those pushing sticks for it, which I think would help a lot. As you can see, it's very small compared to the alternatives, and my apartment kitchen is thankful because of it. Very heavy base too.

I don't think I've ever used a blender.

But now I kinda want one.

you blenderless people, you will never know the arousing feeling of using a blender

*<RJMC> uses a blender naked*

How the hell have people never used a blender before? You've never made a milkshake or a smoothie before?

OH SHIT. Be careful, then.

:naughty:

Be careful with those buttons: Grate; Grind; Beat; Blend; Shred; Liquify; Frappe; Circumcise

550$ is way too much imo. Can't you get a decent one for ~50$? I can't think of any situation that would call for a top of the line blender.

will a blender blend itself and what would the result be????

Divide a number by 0 for me, would you?

But yeah, I've never used a blender in my entire life. Shame on me.
