So I was just reading my new PC Gamer magazine today... in it is a nice little preview of Bloodlines... but there was one horrifying little box on the bottom of one of the pages:

Multiplayed Out
After months of dead silence, Activision has confirmed our suspicion that there will be no multiplay in Bloodlines.
During a previous trip to Troika for the Bloodlines cover story in our September 2003 issue, the developer hinted that it might incorporate a "vampires-vs.-hunters" multiplayer mode. According to Activision producer Graham Fuchs, the decision to abandon multiplay was a difficult one, but will ultimately make the single-player experience "a better game."

Noes. ;(

Ah crap.

Maybe someone could mod it in.

so what?morrowind dont have it either and is a great game...also a certain sci fi shooter comes with a 5 years ol multiplayer.

bahh :(
what is it with game developers and MP?
iD decided not to focus much attention on Doom3's MP.
Valve kept hush on the whole issue and then bam.. voila! CS:Source is suddenly HL2's MP and now Troika not doing an MP? :| ;(

why are devs hatin' on the MP?

/me cries

Well, to be honest I wasn't looking forward to the MP much anyway. When you think about it none of the great RPG's of the past had a noteworthy multiplayer component. If the single-player game is long enough and offers enough replay-value I'll be satisfied.

Yea, ok, so no hl2dm and no bloodlines mp, whats next?

Its a real shame that the mp was taken out, but the main reason I want this game is for the sp.

Fine with me, I'd rather they spend the time on the SP. There are already 150 HL2 mod teams planning vampire related mods anyway.

Ah, i remember the days when MP was everything... now its SP all the way.

But i shouldnt say anything, im doing a SP mod.

crap i wasnt really looking foward on the vampire vs hunter mplayer but i was thinking that maybe someone could grab it and convert it in a more cooler rpg mod :)

creating a mplayer mod from nothing is more difficult i think :/ good luck to the modders !!!

Yeah I suppose singleplayer will have to do :|

MP could have been fun.

btw
on which edition did u read it ??
The December one...

And I was looking forward to this game even when I didn't know about the multiplayer... but it sounded so cool!

Hm, to me it's the other way around - haven't played a good singleplayer for ages :| (except FarCry and Doom3)

Of course the SP is more important. But MP would have been icing on the cake. Ah well.

I hear you, Recoil. I've kinda grown tired of MP shooters and long for a good single player game again. Doom 3 was pretty good, but not enough to satisfy my hunger.

Can't say I'm too upset, I was looking forward to the Singleplayer more than the multiplayer.

if there isnt a mp then why have I read in articles and heard in one of the develpor interview videos on gamespot talking about what their mp is going to be like??

Their site still says there will be multiplayer. Guess it got canceled late or something.

that was the whole point of bloodlines MP. it wouldn't have been your typical MP shooter. yeesh.

i was gonna say that maybe its not upto date ??

well that kidn of site dosent look like the devs spend 24 hours a day and update it every min.

Chances are the publisher is doing the site. Game sites (ran by publishers) are notoriously slow in updating, this one is no exception.

That or there is an mp and everyone here is jus tinsane! :rolling:

Perhaps, but I meant I am tired of multiplayer in shooters in general, not just of a specific type of it. Regardless, from the description on the main site it didn't seem like MP would be so incredibly innovative anyway. The multiplayer would've been Vampires vs Vampire Hunters, which in the end is pretty much like CS but with Vamps and Vamp hunters instead of T's and CT's.

Except with supernatural powers, mele weapons, creepy inviroments and completely different gameplay!

actually no it would have had rpg elements to make it much more interesting than CS like skill upgrades.

Check the post by the activision person in this thread:

I can now confirm this to be true. Bloodlines is a single player only game.

No multiplayer for j00!

it won't unfortunately, and that makes it go from "oh shit I need to buy this game" to "oh shit forget it"

yeah, i'm not buying it if there's no mp. And for all today's games, no mp or no interesting mp means reducing sells, cuz people can single play the cracked fullversion, and they don't need a valid cd-key cuz there isn't anything to check them. If the mp is modded and added later, they can still enjoy it with the cracked version.

however, adding mp to the game and operating a online play system, such as steam, can cost a lot of money to the company. They probably have evaluated the optimization and found out that they can earn more without the mp. so it's up to the company. but it's sad for the gamers who have anticipated the mp.

In a recent article they said they tried several multiplayer modes, but they didn't really work with the RPG stuff they had implemented. So they scrapped MP in favor of spending more time on SP.
