Borderlands

I've been trying to pre-load all night with no luck until about a minute ago. Now I've got it going at about 500 kb/s :)

How is this a worse Hellgate: London?

This actually looks like fun compared to it. I don't see any repetitive hacking and slashing in this game. That game was a gloomy and claustrophobic grind fest. Unlike Hellgate: London this is not being labeled as a MMO. Nor does it have a monthly fee. This actually encourages teamplay. Hellgate: London did the opposite and barely anybody teamed in that game. It was basically a single player game with a chat room build into it. Champion Online has more in common with that game than this game does. Thankfully, Bill Roper wasn't involved in this game's development.
 
I guiltily rather enjoyed the mindless killing in Hellgate. If it hadn't been totally incompetent in terms of multiplayer infrastructure and payment model it might have actually succeeded. In terms of design it was well on it's way to being an above average Diablo clone.

Yeah, I'm white knighting Hellgate. It had it's merits, dammit. It was just such a hilariously botched launch, they asked people to pay to play before they had a system even remotely as good as most of the free to play online lootftw games. Can't imagine how damn embarrassing that must have been for the competent people at Flagship who had basically zero say (the community folks especially must have felt shat on). Mythos was a good bit of mindless fun, too.
 
Getting this game tomorrow-evening, hoping to get to play with some of you guys, on XBL.
 
If anyone wants to play over Xbox Live, I would be up for it.
 
Cool. My Gamertag is JoeThePlumber66. A fair warning though, I'm not terribly good at the game so far. I'm a lvl 16, though I was dying alot for some reason during a play sesson with my mates earlier.

Also, I won't be able to play until 1:00pm (work hours).

Just had a moment of weakness and bought it. Pre-loading now at 4.3MB/sec! \:D/

Hope this game uses steam friends, so we can just click "Join Game" and we'll appear in our friends games :D
 
Nope. Gamespy. So pretty much zero chance of your having that ability unless the PC version has it's own quasi friends system I'm not aware of.

And to be honest, I kinda liked Hellgate. It wasn't that bad in the beginning.
 
Man, the whole PC release thing is annoying. Lots of shops, both in the US and abroad, are already selling the game, but 2K hasn't budged yet so those people who legitimately bought the game can't play it. Securom has a timer and it is impossible to play the game before the 26th for North America and the 30th for the rest of the world. Well, not really. It seems totally random. Digi for example has a 10-26 unlock date.

I'll be at the Eurogamer Expo on the 30th, then probably be at the girlfriends for the weekend, so I wont be able to play till sunday night :(

Oh well, maybe they'll patch in some goodness like a loot distribution system etc. :)

I agree, and I'm sick of people threatening legal action about 2K or GBX because of this. "It's fraud to sell a game that won't work"

Give me a break.
 
Both GBX and 2K have replied. They're working on the PC release date. I wonder if this will affect the Steam release. The icon for BL in my games list just changed. *puts on tinfoil hat*
 
yeah, I saw that posted. I was kind of excited to see some responses.

I'd imagine if the retails get unlocked, that would give Steam teh go-ahead.....right..? :(

For as fanatical as those on the gbx forums were prior to Borderland's release, I can't find any solid areas where people leave their impressions. Which is a little weird/annoying considering I'd expect a lot of it because they're apeshit about the game. -Which does lead me to believe that the game is very mediocre.

I am hoping that the PC version is a bit better due to the player-base; since it is Co-Op.

Ha, I managed to get the preorder and preload today :D

EDIT: Right now, I'm getting a download speed of 50 kb/s (before I have managed to get speeds of 1.1 mb/s). Is this just due to extra traffic on Steam?

Not sure exactly what you mean, but if you mean change regions I'll try that...

K, I found out how, but the speeds on the other regions I've tried seem pretty much the same, if not less. Steam is also taking much longer to load up for some reason.

This brozero. At least in my mind I can't justify buying FO3 again when I have the CE, rather get a new game than a couple of extra quests with the same lame voice acting.

According to Steam, it won't release the game until 3PM on Monday. Lame.
 
damn i wish i knew 3 other people that were interested in this game

Haha, I fixed my problem!

Just delete the ClientRegistry from your steam folder, and let it rebuild the file. Worked for me :D
