So I don't often make threads. I lack the imagination. But right now I'm considerably bored. Which is weird, considering I shouldn't be. I've downloaded over 14 games in the past couple of weeks, I've moved into new halls at a new university and nothing's going particularly badly. So I'm sat here wondering why I'm so bored. I lack interest in almost everything around me. Things which would I would have sat doing for hours only 24 hours ago, I simply can't be bothered to look at anymore. It's almost understandable that I can't be bothered to play Opposing Force again, or lack motivation to continue GTA 3, but when I can't be arsed picking up anymore Java, I know I've reached a higher state of boredom.

It's not exactly unique, being bored; people are bored everywhere all the time. I'm not posting this thread to shout about my boredom, and neither am I creating a thread to ask you guys what you do when you're bored, because quite frankly I don't give a shit, and you don't give a shit about what anyone else does and the only reason most people post in those threads is for some primal desire for people to read them and think about them for even the minutest of moments. What it did set me off thinking about is what causes boredom, because contrary to my previous belief, it's not simply a lack of things to do, or a lack of change in your life, because there's plenty of both around. So what is it? What else causes people to get bored? Depression? Loneliness? Emotional pain?

I guess a discussion about boredom gives one something to do. Also happy birthday to Dedatorv, Milo and D@Linkwent, whoever the hell they are.

Lets both offensive engineer in Arena. Come on. Do it. Do it quickly!

I think boredom is the absence of things to do that you feel like doing. It seems kinda like an extension of laziness.
That's the only thing I could come up with after thinking back about last time I was really bored. It would certainly explain why I'm bored often, since I'm hella lazy.

Go out for a pint and skirt? Staying indoors kills your motivation...

...and so does jaundice :p

Sir, you've become addicted to these forums, yet they aren't active enough. You require more activity.

At least that's what happened to me when I became bored of everything.

For me, it wasn't a lack of enjoyment of other activities, it was a lack of desire to do them. Like if I put a movie on right now, I'm sure I would love it. But I don't want to watch a movie.

Well I can relate, plenty of boredom to go around sitting in your dorm. I'm usually playing a game, working out, watching anime/movies/foruming, studying (hah). I have friends but they don't particularly do things either. I'd say I'm quite the antisocial in that respect and perhaps that's a possible cause but considering how widespread it is anyways even among super social people. I think it might be a need for adventure, I do wish I went more places but there's nothing around here, I mean there's Baltimore but I don't really give a shit (scene>social places). Maybe its something missing in your life, I don't know but whatever.

DEATHMASTER, do you know if you can still buy piranhas in Baltimore?

Want to get some more but they aren't legal to be sold here.

I drove up there to get some before, many years ago.

That's the most random shit I've been asked lately.
I don't konw >_> (do you eat'm?)

What? No, they are pets. If you had ever been to a pet store, you would know. Apparently, you are some kind of pet eating, anti-pet advocate.

What words of wisdom.

Something's always missing.

PIRANHAS - payback is a bitch. But no, I'm vegetarian, but I know you already knew that.

Agreed, Boredom = Laziness

Go pick up a new skill (music?), hit the gym, learn a new sport. And of course, do them with a bunch of friends. Sitting around won't get you anywhere.
