The A.I. always put up a challenging fight, making aggressive overworld map moves and employing effective tactics on the battlefield.
Their choice of number one is fine. Anyone who thinks otherwise either hasn't played it or simply has very bad taste in games.
Crysis does not belong on that list IMO.

FYI, the original version came out in 1994, and spawned a multitude of games, such as X-Com 2, X-Com 3, X-Com Enforcer, X-Com Interceptor.
