BREAKING: Best of list published, probably wrong.

An acceptable top 10, even if it's not exactly what I would have chosen.

So wait, Tie Fighter beat games like Doom, Unreal Tournament and Starcraft?

I'm lost.

Deus ex, unreal tournament, diablo are all in the 20s however call of duty got 10.

You being sarcastic with you thing about PC being dead for a decade?

I like this list actually. It's a well-compiled list of good games with a good explanation for each game that makes me want to replay the ones I had played, and curious enough to try out the ones I hadn't.

Diablo shouldn't be on that list. You would be surprised how many people still play Diablo on blizz net.

Most of the right games were in their top 25, but the order was all wrong (although X-COM is a worthy contender for #1 in my book). Some of those were just WTF though, like putting C&C above Starcraft and WoW above practically everything.

It does seem like they dropped the list in a blender by accident...
#19 - Fallout

Though games like Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Planescape: Torment and plenty of others are all worthy of the PC RPG crown, this 1997 release from Interplay is our choice for the top of the heap.
#4 - Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn

PC gaming is not dead, was never dying, and will not in the foreseeable future "die". Times change, consoles are the financially secure platform [for now]--with some very notable mainstream exceptions like ActiBlizz and Valve making real money without relying on shooting themselves in the foot. There's a right way for PC games to succeed, it's just going to take a while for the industry to adapt.

Lists like these are astonishingly subjective. Weird, I know. Queue three pages of people complaining that X game is above Y. Opinions are pretty threatening things.

A posted opinion causing backlash? On MY Internet?? :O Seriously, statement of the year right there.

But I'll re-iterate that I liked the list for what it did well, which was provide a list of games that represents the best of different genres that the PC has to offer. If they just used bullet points instead of numbers everything would have been fine :upstare:

... that is, in MY opinion.

this.

with a few exceptions. but yeah definitely glad to see Grim Fandango, System shock 2 and BG 2 getting some recognition.

although i don't agree with many on the list...i was surprised XCOM1 made it first on the list. which is actually my favorite game ever and anybody who disagrees can get cancer.

Their choice of number one is fine. Anyone who thinks otherwise either hasn't played it or simply has very bad taste in games.

A piece of the text they have for Rome:TW:

The A.I. always put up a challenging fight, making aggressive overworld map moves and employing effective tactics on the battlefield.

As much as I love the Total War series (especially the excellent modding community), I just had to laugh at that.

Agreed on Crysis. While quite a decent game IMO, it doesn't deserve a place on that list. The whole list itself could be much worse I think. The order is still a mess, though.

I have played UFO and watched others play it alot and no, I don't consider it a bad game, but number one is definitely not the right place. Also, I question your criteria for bad taste in games.

Never heard of that UFO Defense game before :|
You're probably too young then, X-Com was to strategy games, what Half-Life 1 was to FPSes.

FYI, the original version came out in 1994, and spawned a multitude of games, such as X-Com 2, X-Com 3, X-Com Enforcer, X-Com Interceptor.

I came out in 1994 as well, I think that's the reason. So is it worth trying?

And why the f*ck does everyone here hate Crysis? Unlike HL2, Crysis isn't a interactive movie but a action game. Though it's a bit easy, the action is much more satisfying than HL2 and you're not forced to do exactly what the devs want you to do(aka freedom).
Crysis simply is a lot of fun, which IMO is more important than a story.
