Breaking news: N. Korea launches missile

Out of intrest, does anyone know what sort of damage those missiles do?

They blow entire ****ing states up.

Really? Do they even fire that far?

I thought missiles just blew up a small village or big building. Blimey, where have I been hiding. :(

These are "Inter Continental Balistic Missiles" we're talking about. They shoot from one continent, into space, and then free fall onto another continent.

They hold so much plutonium you couldn't believe it.

Then, when they're close enough to their target, they drop a zillion little tiny nuclear bombs all over the place, and then smash into whatever they were aimed at, and then explode themselves.

KABOOM!

Woah, WTF, I can't belive things like that exist. I knew about missiles and atomic bombs but nothing that free falls from space and fires loads of ball bearing nukes everywhere. That is crazy.

I hope this "missile shield" they keep talking about works.

Actually, North Korean ICBMs can carry only 5~10 maximum nuclear warheads.

Which would be enough to destroy, say a 50km radius.

NEWS FLASH: Kim jong Il says: "OUR MISSLES CAN REACH AUSTRAILIA!"

OH SNAP! Bliink has to go kick some ass now.

They have been successful in tests - unless you know something I don't.

In 2002, the United States and Russia agreed in the SORT treaty to reduce their deployed Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) stockpiles to not more than 2,200 warheads each.
This is frightening. Although N. Korea might be developing one, we have been dismantling some of ours. Do they really want to fire one at USA? I don't think that would be anything but suicide. No, I think they just want to have more of a fear-factor. (for lack of a better way to put it)

I don't know why they want to be so isolated from the rest of the world.

the tests were in near lab-quality conditions, with every variable under control, with all equiment and personnel standing at the ready, waiting for the test missile to come onto their radar screens.

the Union of Concerned Scientists released a 75 pages report stating that there is "no basis for believing the system will have any capability to defend against a real attack,", that the missile defense agency "appears to be picking numbers out of thin air," and that "the administration's statements that it will be highly effective are irresponsible nonsense,"

Nobody who is a scientist outside the DoD is saying it will work, and a few inside also say it wont work.

The system relies on 10 silo based interceptors, but would actually need something like 600 of those, plus an additional 1600 orbital weapons platforms. (if NK was the only agressor being considered).

Its unrealistic in the extreme.

Also, the solid fuel type ICBMs are quite resistant to damage, and are hard to intercept once they leave the atmosphere.. you have a very small window

EDIT: Plus, its also been unsuccessful in a great number of tests, at least as many for every sucessful test- and some of those tests involve dummy missiles with homing beacons in them, that weren't hit

Lasers are the way to go.
Lol. That reminds me of that Austin Powers movie - "giant lazer", "I will call it 'The Death Star'". "but Dad, you can't call it the death star, that's already taken!"

rofl @ that part.

NEWS FLASH: Kim jong Il assassinated by koala!

NEWS FLASH: "Koala posthumously made National Hero of Korea!"

btw, people at the CNN poll think Kim Jong Il is stupid. That is not the case. He is a shrewd operator while also being bat**** insane.

Where did that seventh one land?

Numbers, you can't hide it in your backyard for long...

:(

But I want it as compensation for the giant hole on the roof.

what does the writing say?

Oops I forgot

The news reporter is saying: "We do not know where the missle landed"
And the guy at the desk is the head of the Ministry of Reunification.

And Straragic Services tells us that the ICBM was originally aimed at Hawaii's fornt beach, but was self-terminated after it went off course.

He was joking I think.

Or hated it. You know, he wasn't a big fan on Franco's Spain, Hitler's Germany or Stalin's Soviet Union.

I meant that he would have been like: "YAY! My prediction came true!"

Really?

Yes. A bit away from it though, like 50 kms or so.

I wish it'd have made it far enough to be intercepted. That would have been a message from us. The interceptors had a successful test a bit before the missile was launched if I'm not mistaken.

Me too.

North Korea is like a stuborn boy who tries to make his mother (or in this case, the US) buy him some more toys (end embargo/treaties) but gets spanked by his mother and also his uncle (China) and in his anger breaks 10 of his toys by throwing them into a lake, while also trying to bully his neighbor (SK) into giving him more protection money, but fails so he takes out his anger on the town dog (Japan) by swearing at it, but gets barked back at.

Or kinda like that. :p That was kinda hard.
