Ok, so we cleared the clouds about the confusion over dynamic breaking points and pre-made breaking points well over a year ago. But after playing it in cs:s, and noticing how they show it to u in the videos, the breakpoints absolutely suck ass. Do you know in cs:s office, if you shoot that monitor, only THAT piece breaks off, no matter where u shoot it? Its rediculous. The wood, you shoot it on the edge, and the middle breaks. Surely, if you shoot it where the ONE breakpoint is on every object, it looks cool, but wtf. The amount of breakpoints suck, and it looks terrible unless you shoot it in the right spot.

CS:S isn't Half-life 2. Let's wait until we play the real game. :)

Prediction: Someone will soon come in here and tell us to stfu and go do it better ourselfs... or who cares, or nobody notices that when in the middle of a firefight.... :(

the breakpoints dont suck ass because there are no break points in the monitor. the mdl just breaks into more mdls when the max damage is reached. its not an easy task to do what you want it to do.

Guinny has suddenly taken a anti-valve stance lol :)

btw we don't have to worry about anything, since the game gets grades from 96% to 98% ..that's the highest I've ever seen in the last 5 years.

stfu and go do it better yourself. who cares when you're in the middle of a firefight, anyway?

No, but really, that is pretty disappointing. I only hope HL2 will be better in that respect.

I can't believe someone would even complain about that. Really get a grip! it's still a videogame, not real life you understand that don't you? does it really matter if the table breaks in the middle when you shoot the edge?

Well, the lack of breakpoints might be becouse the physics where toned down for multiplayer...

I knew it... I'm a psyhcic! :naughty:

It's an ONLINE GAME.

It would be a waste to make it complex, you dont need it, and it would make it run worse.

HL2 will have all these things that we want in CSS, because it is Single Player.

thats not a great argument. we constantly want games to be more realistic when there is no detriment to gameplay. its not the end of the world, but it does matter.

My q is: What do you guys have against tables that makes you wanna shoot it in the edges?

Yes it does. Very much so.

I thought that Red Faction's GeoMod(?) engine worked like that.

I'll have to go check that out... but the wood planks in some levels break where you shoot them. I tried this out last night. It could of been because I shot them right in the middle, but it seemed to be realistic to me.

The PC's and moniters are fun as hell to shoot to bits. If you shoot the PC enough, the hard-drives, ram, cpu, etc... all fall out piece by piece. There is even a ATI 9800pro in there. Crazy attention to detail.

Overall I'm very pleased with CS:S! It's everything I wanted (almost) and Valve did a great job. I couldn't even stand CS anymore because it looked so damn dated.

I just wish they were more maps with that shattering glass from the Office map. :sniper: :dork:

Breakable models are essentially just multiple models held together by restraints that break if too much pressure is applied.

But I thought I read that the wood in estate breaks nicely?

I am just happy that the wood even breaks and chips at all. And couldnt someone just mod the wood where it breaks more? At...some point...WHENEVER THAT POINT IS!

OMG!
shadows suck.. Bad specular mapping.. and now this breakpoint sh*t..
WOW.. Source is really GREATE!!

WFT is Valve doing?
it doesn't matter if this is CS:S
IT's SOURCE we are playing...

There She/He is again, what a pleasant surprise. I started to miss She's nonsensical ramblings already.

I know Source owns. Even I know you are saying it sucks. I like it. IMO Who gives a damn about shadows (its just a game and nothing is perfect.) And who gives a damn about breakpoints (its just a game and nothing is perfect AGAIN.) Ok I am going :flame: :dozey:

Honestly I'm happy just the way it is, I really don't care but that's just one voice in a sea of millions so I understand your point, people want tables & furniture to break realistically. I'll make a note of that just in case someday I make a game, I'll slap a sticker on the box that says in all caps: "FEATURES LIFELIFE TABLES". ;)

Whatever floats your boat Yellonet, I disabled all the client side physics on CS:S. Yeah shooting bananas and whatnot is fun, but it gets old fast. My point is you'll probably spend fifteen minutes bashing stuff around with your crowbar in HL² and then you'll move on and actually play the game.

Yeah, and you know what, when I try and drop my pants in game nothing happens! I can't even urinate on complete strangers, what the hell is up with that?!

Presumably it's all due to lovely lovely physics tweaking. The Binks seemed to show fairly good breakable dynamics in SP HL2.

CSS owns. Nuff said.
fanboy... Nuff said.

You jumped over the Specular Mapping issue..

Yeah, and you know what, when I try and drop my pants in game nothing happens! I can't even urinate on complete strangers, what the hell is up with that?!
OMG youre right... shadows, specular, breakepoints and now THIS!!!
What have Valve been doing in 5 years...
Oh, drinking coffeeeeeeeee.. and donuts..

EDIT:: didn't know you could drink donuts (troll?)

Oh, I just need to steal my grandma's food mixer, then I could drink doughnuts. Nice and easy, and colon-twistingly delicious!

I'll start criticising Valve when the game arrives and only then ('cept in matters outside of the game itself). Or not, if it really is as awesome as every reviewer ever seems to think it is.

"she" is from japan, dont worry they are all crazy over there

The braking points will be more complex in the final HL2, much like the Ravenholm BINK. They simplified some of the effects in the CS:S so they could save some bandwith and focus on the gameplay.

"She"... do you have a split personality? Here's a recent post of yours:
Yepp.. CS:S i here..
and TONS of pics are flooding there threads...
The game looks good.. the physics are good (better in HL2)
and it's all greate!!!! imust say... i love it!

and dont forget

there not actually break point's, it's all just a heirarchy of break model's that replace each whole model when their hit points exceed that programmed limit.

So in reality ,the breaking is a clever illusion, Considering how it's done , its very neat and works effectively. so yeh there's no need to bitch. :)

but the downside , as CS:S players may of noticed on the chateux level, is when lots of wood is blown up the engine is put under alot of pressure loading all those new break models into the world and physic's system. Causing some major engine lagg.

I take it you've played Postal 2 as well?

Guinny,

If you want a real life game, with everything realistic then wait for UE3.0 games.

For now just enjoy the way the game has been set up. ;)

This is an online game - to have bits of monitor shards breaking up realistically for everyone in the server is just too much, to have the monitor break into 2 items is much better on bandwith and sync.

What's wrong with the specular mapping?
Well... elFUHRER....

there is something wrong..
It's EVERYWHERE!!!

I'm pissed at valve, they need to get off of there fat asses and get shit together and get this mofo game done! But COMON..... this shit is so minor- so un-noticable, when your actually PLAYING the game and in a firefight, how the hell are you gonna see that? You need to get a life if you are really THIS concerned about the most minor of issues in a game. Face it- this game owns your ass and all of ours.

It's not that bad. On the first pic you complain about bump mapped surfaces that reflect light. You do relize Source does have its limits right? And for the second pic. Whohohoho... stop the fun bus. It's a shadow! It dosent affect gameplay :frown: . Now lets start the fun bus back up. :D By the way, its just a game and its just SHADOWS IN A GAME! Can't you just drop the insults/complaining about the shadows? We all know that you hate them. I hope I got my point through. :afro:
