Breene, dead or alive?

I don't think Dr. Breene is still alive. He was the perfect character for when the world was still controlled by the combine, as he had perverted science to commit mass genocide in the hopes of giving himself immortality. (Think of it this way: eternal life and a seat on the combines mutual board of universe conquering costs one(1) highly intelligent species w/advanced tech or three(3) combat efficient species. One that has both? Bonus!) :p Now that the citadel is gone, Dr. Breene's power and significance is gone also. If he survived, consider that he can no longer bargain with the combine or influence any of the human population. His role is over. Now the advisers are the ones who will try and..... well, whatever slug brains think they should do. :upstare:

First of all, gman doesnt save you, the vortigaunts do.
secondly, maby breen will tun up in ep 3, after his advisor master saved him and sent him on a suicide mission to the borielis with an escort of combine as punishment for the way he got his cidatle utterly cluster****ed by a single man in a bright orange suit.

lyk, obv

G-Man saved you. He put you back into stasis when the reactor blew.
The vortigaunts just took you from him.

Maybe Breen was on our side all along. Buying time.

That is utter BULLSHIT. Breen is one of the worst humans ever. :flame:

If he wasn't a fictional character that is.....

Still though, in HL2, Valve does make him one of the best video game villains ever.

What the snap?

I thought you hated Breen! What are you giving him credit for?!

Well he basically saved humanity by surrending to the Combine. If we didn't surrender, we'd probably be wiped out. This way, there's still a chance of fighting back.

Sure, Breen might've done a bit of good, but he still deserves to be dead. If he's alive... why, I'd...

Aye, he may have bought Humanity time, but he was still a douche. :p

Humanity would be extinct if it weren't for Breen.
Finally you see the light. Finally you realize the futility of the resistance, and see Dr. Breen as the saviour he is. Now, give yourself over to the Good Authority, that we might freely traverse the continuum to the Aleph galaxy, as is humanity's ultimate destiny!

We don't know what went on behind the scenes, and we don't know the state of humanity when Breen "surrendered." It must have been bad, for Breen to have had that kind of authority.

But, from what we know of the Combine, their whole angle is to turn humans into a hybrid military force, so it doesn't follow that they would have killed us all. That said, we do know the Combine allowed a lot of non-useful humans to live. Perhaps they might have rounded up who they wanted and turned our atmosphere into poison, but Breen talked them out of it.

I would be curious to know more of Breen's motives. I hope he's not dead.

I said he saved humanity from extinction, but that's a fact. I didn't say resistance was futile and I certainly didn't say Breen was a saviour. ;)

But you will. In time, you will. The sooner you give in the better, Samon; not everyone has to become a stalker. Just accept the Universal Union and you will reap all the rewards of an empire a thousand times larger and more advanced than you could ever imagine.

Why are they called Stalkers, anyway? What do they stalk? I wish they'd let us fight some.

We do. We get to fire orbs at their spindly asses.

Of course he's still alive. It was a triumph. He probably made a note, "huge success". Most likely it would be hard to overstate his okay I think you're all seeing where I'm going with this...

Not actually facing the Stalkers in direct combat was just another slice of the ingenuity pie Valve seem to slice into at every available opportunity.

Huhum, in the fashion as a character from Black Hawk Down would say.

"Breenes gawn man..."

Breen is nothing compared to those advisors, u c him tlkn to one wen freeman gets teleported to his office for the second time in HL2

You also see several later in the series. But that's reserved for appropriate forums.

*applies further grammar*

Breen is nothing compared to those advisors! You see him talking to one when Freeman gets teleported to his office for the second time in HL2, Red Letter Day.

I don't think they would put such an emphasis on his host body plan (as was suggested.. or forced upon him, by advisors), and show it TWICE (once in Half Life 2, once in Half Life 2, Episode 1) if it was to have no role afterwards in the game.

^^^ Yea. When that video clip was re-played in episode 1 of Breen talking about the host body, I did think for a moment that perhaps there was more to it than I thought.

No. He saved all of humanity from extermination.

Actually, he sold out humanity just to save his own ass.

You give him no credit. No credit at all! You don't understand Breen. You don't understand him one bit. :flame:

Don't argue on this. Don't. Breen was all for the good of humanity.

I think Breen is a tragic figure. I doubt he wanted humanity to be enslaved and that he had their best interests at heart. Unfortunately his idea of what was in our best interest was that we be assimilated into a universal order that while it may expand humanity's potential as a species, individualism and free thought(the essence of being human) is eradicated.
But hey it's all in the name of science.

Playing through Half-Life 2 and Episode One for the umpteenth time, I suddenly realised in a drastic realisation how right Breen is...
