Just curious to know about how many people use broadband in the gaming community...

Fastest reply I've ever seen. I just clicked "Submit", page loaded (on broadband),... reply was already there, neo. :O

Yup, I pull in an average 450kBps for downloads and 40kBps uploads.
Though late at night I'll get speed in excess of 2000kBps for a few seconds then it drops down to normal.

Erm, how do you find out? My dad got it and never told me what connection it is, although I think its broadband. Sounds quite noobish eh?

Try to download something, and take note the "Transfer Rate:" section... it's in Kilobytes per second. 1000k (actually 1024) is a Mb (Megabyte), so 100k per second will take 10 seconds to download 1 Mb.

Try with this file (from a fast, untrafficked server):
http://www.deefrag.com/Files/TA Map Pack.zip

Ignore the fact that it's a map pack for Total Annihilation.

5k per second = 56k
~100k = typical DSL
~300k = typical cable / expensive DSL
~500k = expensive cable

It can be drastically different in different countries and areas.

theoretically, i think you are supposed to divide the kila-bits (sp) by 8 to get the kila-bytes (sp).

so if ur on a 512kbs connection, you'll get a download speed of 512/8. but of course, the world of computer cables isn't completely accurate... at least not with me :(

My ISP claims that they're giving me broadband at 10mbps... I would disagree (more like 0.0000001mbps), but it says 10 on the paper....

My ISP sucks...thats all I can say.

Yes it is like yours....and damn't you don't get on msn anymore. :|

I get 60kbps roughly, although in April it moves up to 1mbps, then 2 in October. Yay for BT Business plan!

Broadband isn't defined by the speed, you can have 1 KB/s broadband if you wanted to.

i have 1mbps, and in July, AOL are upgrading it too 2mbps for free :D.

I've got 750k at the moment, next month it's being upgraded to 2mbps for free! :D

How do you guys land all these gnarly fast speeds? Getting 500k+ downloads, pssshh. I'm stuck on 578bit :P

Download speeds of 5Mbps and uploads as 512kbps for me but i never get downloads that fast.

Download speeds of 3Mbps and uploads as 512kbps for me, and I love it.

Theoretically, I can go up to 2.5 mbps... the highest I've ever went was 1.4 ... I love cable.

I should hypothetically be getting 10Mbps (about 2.25MB/s), but I usually end up getting 800Kbps (or 200KB/s). Then again, my DSL line is split between my PC and my Xbox.

It hasn't changed speeds since I got Xbox Live, but that's because I connected my modem through USB until I was forced to get a network card for my router (and therefore connect through Ethernet) to allow for XBL.

Fastest download i ever had was 580kBps, but usually tis around 350kBps :P

blueyonder telewest, 4mb line, get roughly anything fom 500kps to 2mps

Ill have one at university :( but thats not soon enough, ive had enough of being lag killed :(

Cable connection. Avg of 400+ KB/sec for d/l's. I've seen as high as 1MB/sec though. It's kind of a freak occurance but I love it when I see the MB's flying by that fast.
