Brothers in Arms release

out tomorrow in europe i believe, think i'll get it,anyone know wheres cheapest for pc games, game?,virgin?,hmv?

Well my bro got his copy today from Gameplay - they deliver the day before most of the time. The bastard didn't come home though :(

whem i went to get my copy the guy asked me if i wanted the cd-rom version or the dvd version....................

Eh... Are this guy really meant to be blown to bits? It looks really weird.

I'm playing it and it's really starting to make me frustrated. For a well trained Airborne soldier, I shoot like a 9 year old girl. I'm also not well trained enough to go prone. They had better release a patch because hitting things is next to impossible unless you're at point blank range. But even at point blank, I still miss like every shot. It's gay.

The game is good. The gameplay is the most realistic thing I have ever played. The animations are excellent the Germans look like they are straight out of saving private ryan in the way they run, and do manuveurs. Yes, its hard to shoot, but I am getting the hang of it. The levels are really cool, they really look like normandy, and have the possibilty for a large veriaty of tactics and manuvers. This game actually looks like its taking place in Normandy, its really gritty, and not many other PC shooters have so much foliage. Multiplay is a really new experience and very unpredictable even with all the bots playing. I found nothing wrong with it. BIA really immerses you in the gameplay, and yes the graphics use some low textures but the level design and gameply to me makes up for it. The thing that stood out the most is the all around usage of tactics by both sides, like nothing I have ever seen to make the game extremely realistic, and resembelant to real combat. Its kinda of like Operation Flashpoint, on speed and steriods. Dont worry about the grahpics there not that bad. I have everything on high, and I only have a 128mb 9600xt and an AMD 3000 and it really looks good. ( and yes i care about graphics)

They removed proning because it promoted camping. They didn't want people to camp and try to snipe all the enemies. They wanted you to use fire and manuver tactics.

lol, that's crazy. Imagine the following scene:

Normandy, Utah Beach
June 6th 1944, 11:32AM

sit-rep
Elements of the 4th Division link up with paratroopers from the 82nd and 101st PIR. Together they launch an assault on a battery of German 88's. They get pinned down by a machine gun.

Sergeant: "What are you doing, soldier?"

Grunt: "I'm trying to shoot the kraut with the MG, sir."

Sergeant: "I'm not blind, soldier. I can see that! But why are you prone?"

Grunt: "Errr, to prevent the Germans from seeing me, sir?"

Sergeant: "You know you can't do that. That's camping. Stand up."

Grunt: "But sir."

Sergeant: "Get up, soldier."

*BANG!*

Sergeant: "Someone get that sniper-rifle and get the kraut behind the MG!"

I'm confused, how is it hard to shoot the enemy? Pull up your sights, aim, fire, dead enemy, correct?

I'll be getting this after I go paintballing in a week, so I can manage my funds well enough to decide what to buy next. Keep the mini-reviews coming in though.

Its not as easy as it is in other games. If your standing, your ironsights bounce and move from side to side. If you shoot the enemy once, they usually try to take off or charge you. So not only do the ironsights move, but you also have to deal with a moving target. Awesome game though.

Another thing that I don't like is the fact that there isn't any 5.1 surround sound yet. The game sounds amazing as is but once you've played DOOM 3, COD, and HL2, you don't want to go without it.

I'd give the game a 8.7/10. It'd be a 9.5 if it had some 5.1 sound support and some graphical upgrades. As it stands, I don't think the AA works. Its kind of odd.

I got the game yesterday and after a few missions i must say im a bit dissapointed about it.
I find the gameplay average. the team command is a great addition, but that's all about it in my opinion. It's not as cinematic as MOH:AA, doesnt have COD graphics and no 5.1 sound. Actually i find really bad the balance between performance/graphics quality. I have a AMD 64 3200+ 2gb ram Radeon x800xt platinium and 7200 HD I run it at 1280 x1024 with all high except shadows and vegetation which i set medium and filter at 1.
Game runs good at that. Even with those settings doesnt look better than MOH in most aspects of the graphics(Yes it has some nice efects but that's about it(i mean the overall of the graphics, textures,etc..)Vegetation is awful, it has very bland textures. Sorry if i hurt some feelings, but till now it seems an average FPS for me(Nowhere near as good as HL2 or 1)

FFS, I ordered this game because of screenshots like this:
http://img92.exs.cx/img92/8099/brothersinarms1b2jp.jpg

I now want to return my game because of screenshots like this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/Soybighead/bia2005-03-1716-00-40-71.jpg

Mainly meaning the road textures and such like.

P.S. That second shot was used on another forum to show how "good" the graphics were. It is my personal opinion this man should be shot, due his complete and total "idioisim" :) (Good word that)

LOL the game looks absolutley nothing like that on the first pic...atleast not for me...

The first screenshot looks heavily photoshopped or something. The graphics on yours looks alright, playable. Try playing around with the settings, have you got a dx9 graphics card?

Yeah, I know the game will never look like that for anyone, but it was one of the original shots in a press release ages ago that got me hyped about it.

The ingame screen shot aint mine, it was posted on some other forum. Sorry for the confusion.

I have it sitting at home but im at uni at the mo :(

ive played a few missions and so far ive yet to be blown away(no pun intended)
the AI seems to be alright, although they ALWAYS seem to know you're coming even when they're pinned down
the thing that has impressed me the most though are the sound effects... the weapons sound awesome and the screaming and shouting of squad mates makes it very immersive
im still giving this one a chance.. since im not too far into the SP campaign

Im still buying the game, graphics dont mean much to me, I really enjoyed WW2 Online which many didn't like

got it today too,im just startin foukarville something or other but damn does the game run bad, pretty shoddy port, theres a few bugs too so i'll need to get that patch particurly in relation to 1 that when i press a certain key on my keyboard it makes my view go sideways,i was able to play hl2,fc with 4aa and 16af with everything maxed but i'm lucky to be getting a constant 30fps,it gets choppy alot but still playable, its laggy just walkin around with no enemies in sight, comp 3.2ghz p4,1 gig ddr2 ram and a x800xt although i remember the videos i watched the fps seemed low but that was on the xbox,i would expect more on a decent rig like mine

graphics are not the best but it is a xbox game and it is very consolish, small environments, poor textures etc, loading times are rather long too, increasing the heapsize doesnt make a diff either :( ,things are quite bright too, probably the 'hdr' which is really just bloom, need to adjust the brightness as the screenies on the box look more vibrant

anyway on to gameplay, pretty enjoyable, the ai is pretty good,i need to get used to the command options as i've got poor hartsock killed twice by sending him head first at a group of germans when i meant to press 'suppressing fire'oh well he came back to life, sound quality is a bit iffy but the weapon sounds and ai comments are great like someone said,i would like to have had more ambient noises like birds chirpin etc,you only really hear the wind, overall its good although i wouldnt give it a 9.2 or whatever ign gave it

After you've crouched and stayed generally still for a few seconds your aim will settle down in ironsights and you can make some pretty good shots.

I played through it on Xbox and I thought it was solid.

yeah solid would describe,i think the reviews have overhyped it tbh, wonder what gs will give it,pc version i mean

The graphics are pretty muddy ( lucky they included bloom or they'd be flat-out average ), the game runs like an absolute bitch ( averaging 20fps most of the time; I get 60+ in hl2 with 4AA and AF and everything on max at the same res. ) but the gameplay is alright, it feels a little like Red Orchestra. The whole squad tactics thing works fairly well, and the noise of shouting, gunfire, explosions etc. is neat.

Overall, feels pretty mediocre

couldnt sum it up better, the long load times are the worst,a gig of dual channel ram and up to 1 minute to load,i've heard that having v-sync on doubles load times even triples them for some reason, think i'll leave it off, game needs a decent patch

Thats wierd...my load times are awsome.
About 10 seconds, (no AA) max detail on:

AMD Sempron 2.0ghz
1024mb PC3200
9800pro

And about 15 seconds, (no AA)max detail on:

AMD Sempron 2.0ghz
768mb PC2100
9600pro

scrap what i said, load times are down now,i increased the heap to 500mb and now it takes like 10 secs, performance still choopy

just turned vsync back on at load times again were 1 minute long,so its to do with vsync then, odd that,i didnt think havin it on would increase load times

Well, at least my load times are good :D

seems to be to do with vsync, with it on loading takes forever, off it loads up in a sec

im on d+2 at the mo,on the first mission with both squads,i just checked the chapter section and im halfway done :( ,must be short

single player is alrite ntohing too amazing, but mp on the other hand is so orginal its amazing to see actually flanking manoeuvers work, i love it :D

Hmm, single player gets better, tactics get more advanced and you get more squads :) holding off my judgement 'till the end.

It still lags like a biatch tho'

lol the stupid logon doesnt have enough room for my name.oh well have to get a new 1 then, performance has improved a bit,i notice i get a slight pause at times when enemies are spawned or something like it not on every lvl though, feels a bit samey at the mo,supress flank, repeat, need to play mp

I got it today and I was disappointed. Its a ok game but it was far too hyped. Its too similar to Call of duty which was released a few years back. I have graphics maxed out and it runs perfectly but its dull looking. Once again its the same standard as CoD.

Enemy AI seems fairly scripted to me. The enemy has a "zone" that it fires from and doesnt do much else. It doesnt feel real to me. No matter what you do it appears that they always know where you are even if you are slowly moving through the foilage while your squad is firing from a different position.

Taking out the going prone move was silly, if im being shot at with no immediate cover I want to go prone, i dont want to just kneel and hope they were aiming 6ft up from my feet. Someone quoted it was taken out because gearbox didnt want you to camp and take out every enemy. Well, if this is based on a certain level of realism the AI should be aware of this and change plan to flank and supress your team to kill the camper (but as ive previously said it appears most enemies are stuck to their zone). This to me seems like a limitation of the mapping and AI, as a result the player had an ability taken away from him/her to disguise this shortfall.

This leads me to the mapping, from what I have experienced <SO FAR> its just a big patch of grass with standard models for cover, a van, sandbags, walls etc. I appreciate this is based on real location so I dont expect to see anything inventive here but its just lacks the atmosphere (I was never bored with CoD) , this goes hand in hand with the graphics, if it looked more realistic with better effects you would feel more immersed in the action instead of looking around at the rather dull looking sprites that sway repeatedly backwards and forwards. The big farm house (taken out by a bazoka round from an NPC) was terrible mapping, invisible walls all over the place, it just looked appalling. As a mapper myself i fully understand the need to block players progress in certain directions but at least place an object in the way. Invisible walls these days, and even years back, are not acceptable in a game this big.

If CoD game out next week I would still be amazed by the design and would easily forget about BiA and that really is saying something for a game released a few years back running on the Quake 2 engine (?).

This is a negative review but only because I am so disappointed at how hyped I was for this game. Overall its a good game but massively flawed.

7/10

damn im already on chapter 14 and i just checked a faq, theres only spoilers just in case
20
.this is like the shortest game ever, the maps are tiny too,i've only played for about 5 hours
