Build-A-System

Cool, they are both a lot cheaper than the place I was looking at.

Thanks.

Sidewinder - the guy's just trying to help, the same way you are. It's really kind of both of you to give your time to others' questions... It's not a competition.
But would (either of) you mind helping me out? I'd like:

AMD AthlonXP 2.8Ghz (at least)
Decent HD, about 100/120Gb?
512Mb DDR RAM
A decent motherboard (although not too pricey), is an MSI K7 N2 nForce2 any good? I don't care about ones that are good for overclocking.
Good sound card (Audigy?)
I already have 4-point speakers plus sub-woofer, but some new ones might not go amiss as I may sell my current PC
3.5in 1.44Mb Floppy Drive
Decent CD-RW drive
DVD 16x
AS for gfx cards I'm not so sure because I don't think I can afford a 5900FX or 9800Pro, so a good card - but not one of the noisy GeForceFX ones - about 128Mb?
I have no idea about cases and that kind of thing....
If the prices/retailers could be British then that'd be great because I doubt very much any company would do free trans-Atlantic shipping:)
Cheers for any help and sorry for my vagueness

hi ,
i have a intel p4 1800, ge-force 3 ti 200 , 524mb ram.
i have max 1000 euro, how do i upgrade my pc the best for that price? i live in belgium.

tank you , greetz xXx

El_Chi, the MSI K7N2 is, I believe, the best performing nForce-2 motherboard on the market. It's not very overclockable , but you just said you don't care whether it is or not.

roxXx: I'm sorry, but I have no idea about euros and european computer sites. If you could list some good European computer sites, I'll glady put together a system fo you.

El_Chi, your turn:

Ordering from many different sites is a pain in the ass unless you're gett only 1 or 2 things.

Wow, cheers Sidewinder that's great!
Well... Maybe I could up the gfx budget a fair bit.. You know, just for argument's sake <ahem> :naughty:

(And it's VAT - value added tax... 17.5% Just so you know when you're buying British or are over here)

Cheers for that!
I have to say I'd rather pay 17.5% extra on items and not have to worry about being denied surgery if I can't afford it.
No offence but the American medical system's screwed up

OK shock.. build me one.. you have 4000 bucks...(im buying an alienware.. if you dont make me one :p)

Intel P4 3.2 ghz 800 frontside bus

2 GB of DDR ...

120 gb hdd.. doesnt matter at all what it is.. hopefully a WD

Thats nice.. ank.. and thanks.. but see if you can include the things I asked for.. and keep it near 4000.. all im asking for is the BEST computer I can get for 4000.

I did include what you asked for.

[edit] Damnit, I must have deleted the Klipsche speakers by mistake, just add $330 to that price [/edit]

Finally USD again!

Here wwe go. I'll build you the system I can for 4000 Dollars.
Well, now that I finished... I couldn't increase the price to $4000 even after giving you 2 200GB HDD, and giving you platnium XMS memory. Do you want a monitor??

I dont see 2 gb of DDR ram. it says 1.. and i dont see a 120 hard drive..

What in the name of all that's good and holy do you intend to do with 2Gb RAM... That'd seem to me beyond future-proofing in a rather extreme way. But then maybe I'm just jealous you have 4 grand to blow...

Yes yes you are.. :p and i dont know what im going to do with that.. im going to play PS on 4x AA / AF 12xx by 1xxx and get in really big battles.. :p

Ender, I put in 2 80GB hard drive to make into a RAID array, which would give you pretty much one extremely fast 160GB hard drive. Plus there's 2 GB of RAM, see how I got 2 of the 2x512 packs?

[edit] BTW, 2GB of RAM will not help you with what you described, it probably will BARELY help you in animation and video programs too, even 1GB is too much for just gaming.

I didnt see where you put the 2.. only saw one.. now i do :p k.. new assignment: get the best computer possible for 4000 dollars

Edit: Well.. I have 4000 bucks.. im going to put it to use damnit

"2x (2GB) Corsair TWINX1024-3200C2PT 1GB DDR400 XMS3200 Dual-Channel Memory w/Platinum Heat Spreader Retail"

The "2x" means 2 GB sets.

I also had lots of extra money, so I gave you 2 200GB HDD in RAID array. so now you have 400GB of space.

and because I came in under your 4000 dollar limit, I got you a 29" monitor. :)

I know what 2x means.. and thanks for the moniter.. but surely you can find some better parts or something to make the comp more expensive.. :p.. a better case.. maybe?..

That's a very good case... If you want a better case, buy a Mach 5 Exotix form Falcon Northwest. With that extra money you cna buy software or soemthing! :)

Ok ok.. now.. im not a fan of building my own computer.. its boring and flustrating.. anyone know a place that puts all the junk together?.. if not im gonna have to do it =(

I'd build it, set it up, install Windows, and optimize it for a price.

That's possible the ugliest case I have ever seen. Sorry, but I would never want a case liek that. You wanted the best gaming machine period.
