Ok I have these plans for building a desk.

What I need to know is if any of you smart people would know, roughly, how much an 80in x 24in sheet of plexiglass would cost?

I have looked online and haven't found jack sh*t.

Here is a basic picture:

1: This spot on the desk has a flueroescent(sp?) bulb fixture underneath the plexiglass top, it will be used as a drawing and tracing table.

2: Support beams running underneath the plexiglass to keep it from sagging in the middle.

3: not quite sure why I put a 3 in there...

The dual monitor setup is just an exaggeration of my hopes and dreams.

Lol, buying plexiglass isnt exactly something you often think of :)
Sorry, cant help you there...
It seems pretty neat though, I like the design. Though I would go for a different one, I actually thought about designing one after I couldnt find a fitting desk (I sit in a rather stupid way, a normal desk just isnt good).
I would alter the area around the mouse, so its one with the table on the right. Makes it much easier to rest the arm when mousing (yeah, I just thought that word up :)) around.

thanks for your insight, right now the design is in a preliminary stage. Changes will most likely be made.

I plan to take a run down to home depot some time, see what they got.

you might wanna register on hardforum.com they have a forum for modding, and im sure guys there have bought plexiglass for their cases, they could probably give you good estimate of the cost.

I really think the main desk (the one with the TFT's) is way too small.. you think you'll have enough space to sit there (and will you be able to get out of your chair or have someone sitting next to you?)

Looks cool, but I would feel trapped in that thing.

Strategy for finding out how much a 80x24 in sheet of plexi costs:

1. Figure out how many square inches of plexi you need (80x24 = 1920)

2. Call your local plexi suppler. This will be a glass or window company. You might need to phone around a bit to find the people you need to talk to.

3. Ask them how much plexi is per square inch. The price will vary by location and thickness. In my expierence, 1/4in thick plexi will be over twice as much as 1/8in thick plexi.

4. Ask if they have a delivery service. With a sheet that long (6.6 feet) you probably dont want to risk carrying it home by yourself.

5. ..........

6. PROFIT!!!! (er....pay)

Other observations

1. Your deisgn look interesting, however, 1/8th inch plexi will probably bend too much with the number of supports you have, you might need to increase the number of supports or shell out for thicker plexi.

2. If the plexi gets too thick, it might end up cheaper to get real glass. In this case, you'd have to modify your design and put little rubber supports (normally sold as feet) on the top side of your frame in order to relieve stress caused by unevenness.
