What do you guys think is the best moment to buy a new computer (in terms of months that lie ahead)?

Now, or wait until windows vista ships so you can have a brand new 64 bit OS and not have to worry about its requirements.

or just build a machine now that is 64 bit and download an illegal version of XP :p

There will always be something new on the horizon to wait for to get. You probally want to get something lower than the newest. Aim for the best performance for your money instead of the bleeding edge new technology as it will cost a lot. So go ahead and buy now but get good, not newest stuff.

Id rather they download XP than games. Microsoft wont feel it as bad as the smaller video game companies.

And Id say buy now... there isnt as much stuff to look foreward to in the upcoming months as there was before. You can get a very good computer now, with all the options to upgrade to whatever is coming down the line.

Wait til spring, AMD is getting support for DDR2 memory and SATA2 hardrives.
Dammit! that's what I shoulda done...

That is, if you're sure that AMD is doing that...

just a general rule of thumb I use is buy, like glirk said, but do it right after something new comes out driving down the prices on the stuff that was just cutting edge.
