by the end of css beta stage, hl2 should be out

10 years...thats the next time ur allowed to post.
 
Well CS 1.6 was in beta for about 6 months.

HL2 went beta at E3 or shortly after, it won't be finished till August or September so that will be around 5 months.

CS:S probably a similar timeframe.
 
I asked this question, cuz valve said at e3 that they are going to release css as soon as hl2, therefore i guess when css is done, valve will release both games.

They better not be waiting for the X-Box release of HL2... because I am starting to get nasty suspicions

I have no desire in CS:S at the moment, and that's the truth.
 
It would be more logical to ship out HL 2 first then allow players to download/ buy a CD with the Source ports. Reason is that to ship a CS:S beta you must also ship the Source engine along, which adds a considerable amount of data needed to be downloaded - easier for gamers with HL 2 to download a pack that modifies HL 2 to play CS:S than to ship CS:S stand alone.

I think players would be far more happy to play HL 2 SP and a basic HL 2 DM MP while allowing Valve to work on CS/DoD/other :S games, than making players wait till CS:S is fully developed and packed in with HL 2.
 
I'm quite anxious to play Hl2 and all of the source conversions. I'm new to the forums, can someone fill me in on whether or not we're allowed to say we have the HL2 leak? I won't make further comments until I know the answer to that. :)

Anywho, I don't want it released until it's finished, first impressions are very important!

Well he was right. It had terrain, and it WAS destructable. ;)
 
hl2 should be released now and patched later if there are bugs... almost everyone can apply patches via steam

even though I sort-of hate to admit it, I agree with you. Half-Life 2 has way too much media/hype to keep up there yo-yo'ing (thanks fusion) for long. Release it already :D.
 
Nah, I want them to thoroughly finish the game now so the waiting isn't for nothing.
 
I don't think CS:S will have extensive beta testing. It's more like to reward CZ owners or something along those lines, after it will be on Steam and will be patched every now and then just like 1.6 and to me 1.6 is still beta in a way.

agreed. i'm more worried about the state of dod:s actually. they say all the source conversions will be ready at release but you think we'd at least see some kind of screenie or something by now.

you know how much crap valve would get if after all these delays and missed release dates they went ahead and released a buggy game?

besides, that's exactly the problem with the pc gaming industry today. "release it now so we can start making money and patch it later". this only leads to frustrated and pissed off customers. after spending our hard earned cash we want something that works out of the box not something we're going to have to wait weeks and weeks for until it feels complete. just look at the mess crytek has been in the last month or so regarding their 1.2 far cry update.
 
According to the Korean interview (see the thread somewhere in the CS:S forum) the beta lasts 2 weeks and starts in 2 weeks.

I was thinking the same. I mean geez people are getting mad at valve for just changing the min requirements! I don't even need to be here to know what would be said if they released an early/buggy game.

SIN should be a lesson to most people with releasing games too early.

Valve have certainly made some mistakes, and have been inconsistant, but I have to feel a bit sorry for them. No matter what they do or say now they will be jumped on and attacked or called liars.
 
I'm not too fussed, I'd rather play a complete un-buggy game, the wait will be worth it...

Doesn't that mean we won't get HL2 at all as all the stuff will burn...? You need to think this through... :rolling:
 
As much as I want CS:S (after finally initiating myself with CS), I don't want it to delay the main game, HL2. Given the time structure Valve have set out regarding summer release etc, I still think this means they're on target. Like someone mentioned, 2 weeks till CS:S beta, and a further 2 weeks of that beta.
 
They should release CS:S after HL2 if it isn't done by the time HL2 is shipping.
 
If the beta starts in two weeks and ends in two weeks, boom, 4 weeks. I was good at math.

So a whole month, and the game will be done! Hopefully. I do agree that it is strange there is no DoD:S screens, maybe they'll just release HL2 with CS:S and maybe TFC and DOD will come out later for download...
 
Aaw man not this *2 weeks* business again... My souls still has wounds from the UT2k3 pre-release parties @ INA ;(
