bye bye S.T.A.L.K.E.R?

Oh well.

I always knew that the project was way too ambitious for its own good.

Eh, figures - hopefully they'll actually be nice enough to admit defeat, unlike the team "working" on DNF

too bad really

I hope they make it even if is not so free wolrd and so big as they say, just put big open spaces and a rpg like mission and is enough imo

and from what I read of the article the developers didnt get well along,or where lazy and undecided

If true, then truly is sad. I submitted a pretty decent story for their literature contest. I guess I'll never get noticed now :(.

This went beta a month ago. It's totally in THQ's hands now.

Arghh, that really sucks. I've been anticipating this game for a while. I guess it might have been too ambitious. I'm hoping some developer will try to do something like this again after this game's development stops.

No, what a complete load of BS.
I'll believe it when it's posted on Gamespy, Gamespot, and other larger, more reputable gaming websites.

Was that even confirmed though? Maybe the "beta" report was BS, and this report is true.

I'm going to wait for the real game news sites, like some of these posters are saying.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: this game is vaporware.

It's funny how several of you guys just swallow these news without criticizing the sources in the least..

Anyway, I'll believe this when major sites posts it..

Edit: I checked some things, and apparently Oleg(Main guy in charge of PR iirc) stated 2 out of the -40- people on STALKER were transferred to the RTS team, and 5 dismissed.. I don't think this is pointing to that the game's closing down, but might rather be pointing to the game not needing those people(I.e. they might be working with the sound department and it's all done for example) and thus they felt it'd be better to transfer'em over to another game, the dismissal part I have no idea about.:)

Just because a game goes Beta doesn't mean that it can't be canned or passed over it the beta test results are poor. It's a fact that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has been delayed more than your average game, we've barely seen anything about it in months, you'd have to be daft or ignorant to think that a major publisher like THQ is pleased with the situation. When GSC release some real media I'll believe them. This stinks of a train wreck.

What do you define as 'real' media? Because, you know, there are some nice gameplay videos on the site.

Media that's preferably less than 6 months old.

That's THQ fault tho, you see THQ has decided that they'll break the media silence exactly half a year before release, to initiate a huge advertising and marketing campaign..
So blame THQ, not just GSC..: |

bullshit article.

I, Oleg Yavorsky, PR Manager for GSC today visited much loved Gamemag, and I see: rumours, rumours, and again rumours. Rumours I, in principle, love, since this is the main focus of this site - I myself come here to read a little of those interesting stories. But news that "STALKER" is in the stage of beta and final testing - this is already in progress!

I rang Management and, after learning all of the facts, I can say that on Friday at a conference it was decided to transfer some of the desginers to the development of "Heroes", and to discharge some employees. Namely, of 40 people two are transferred into the Art department, five are released from employment. When I asked Sergey "Why", he said that art in "STALKER" is almost finished, and that transferring designers to "Heroes" would be more than sufficent for the title.

None of Management, Key Designers, Programmers, or testers were released. In a telephone conversation I was told that I could not give you any "official comment", but Sergey said to say "ring my mobile, it's always on". All members of press know it's number, and more and more also know mine.

Now, my personal comment, what you wrote, it insulted: What you said of our STALKER - what of Russian Developer Nival. Their title "Hereos of Might and Magic V": already has been in development for four years. Yesterday it was in the beta stage... For some reason no-one on Gamemag made comments, that they did not have time to complete the title. But Art Design is finished - so immediately Gamemag writes "STALKER is dead".

Respected press, you are not in this way. If any information is necessary to you, then ring/write us, do not be troubled.

Haha! These internet rumors get everyone in a huff! Remember all of the fuss about the stolen source code for another popular title ? Well, we all know how that turned out. ;)

I expect STALKER will make it to shelves, but as for all of this nonsense, who cares since its speculation at best....?!

Yay who called it.

Don't spread unfounded rumors with no backing. It makes baby Jesus cry.

The facts speak for themselves. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has apparantly entered Beta testing but we still haven't seen any media for 6 months? Don't you find that odd? Trust me, if THQ had something to show they would have put it out there, this media blackout isn't doing anything for their reputation. It's not rumours or speculation. Just logic.

Ok, so then its logical to think that since I haven't heard anything from David Hasselhoff lately that he is dead?! That doesn't sound logical to me. I will wait until his death is officially announced before I believe anything.

And look at all of the idiots that believed all the rumors about Pol Pot's death on the many occasions before it became a reality! Foolish, at best.

The lesson? Make sure a 'fact' is a fact before believing it. I'll wait til I get official word from the devs/publisher thanks.

seriously wouldnt' trust some site called ggmania. wait until it shows up on larger sites

Hope this is all bull, won't believe it until i read it somewhere like Gamespot, Gamespy or PC Gamer

It's well known that 6 months prior to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s release (By the way, why do they need such an annoying name :() THQ will have a media blitz to try to get the public's attention.
