Proposition 19, also known as the Regulate, Control and Tax Cannabis Act of 2010, is a California ballot proposition which will be on the November 2, 2010 California statewide ballot. It legalizes various marijuana-related activities, allows local governments to regulate these activities, permits local governments to impose and collect marijuana-related fees and taxes, and authorizes various criminal and civil penalties.[1] In March 2010 it qualified to be on the November statewide ballot.[2] It requires a simple majority in order to pass, and would take effect the day after the election.[3] Yes on 19 is the official advocacy group for the initiative.

I'm wondering if it will really go through. I doubt it, though. If we can't keep something as harmless as gay marriage unbanned, how good will weed do?

Jesus doesn't want you to touch another man's peepee. Also, there's no profit in it.

Anyway. The recent decriminalization is a good sign. It definitely has a lot of supporters. Let's hope it passes.

I'd personally love to see Weed over take alcohol in popularity. rather do you see a stoned guy beat his kids, smash his car, or gamble all his savings away.

Yeah, this time there's profit involved, people will actually be swayed.

I think it'll go through. If it doesn't... I don't know what to expect. Something that isn't very good, and includes lots of angry people.

Not a fan of it, but I dont see why it should be illegal.

If it goes through, weed will be legal in the whole country within five years. As for its chances, I really don't know. California is obviously the best place to start, but I'm not sure they can pull out a majority. We'll see.

Government starts selling weak-ass weed at stupid prices, that's how I see this whole thing ending if 19 passes.

This is before I even get into the Illuminati side of things.

Ah, the usual biased opinion. How nice. Let me guess, Weed does 0 damage to your body, right?

The problem with drugs is always abuse. It's not the drug, at least I don't think so. Addictive substances make abuse more likely.

Water isn't bad for you either, but if you drink like 5 gallons of it at one time, you'll die. Simple. Our body has some sort of mechanism to prevent us from overdrinking under normal circumstances. Unless a drug is completely debilitating (can't move), then you can easily overdose. But you can't overdose on marijuana, as far as I'm aware. You can with alcohol and nicotine - which are currently legal. Although pretty unlikely for either, in all honesty. Just sayin'.

So am I saying that marijuana is safer than water? Well, no. I don't know what I'm saying any more... marijuana should be legal.

I agree with this 100%. I won't care about Alcohol, Cigarettes and what not being banned. *Looks at Demolition Man* **** TACO BELL.

When have you ever heard of somebody dying because of marijuana? I am talking about the actual use of marijuana and not some type of accident related death. Ever heard of alcohol poisoning? It doesn't take much of a dosage for it to be fatal. It's one of the most toxic drugs out there. You can overdose using alcohol. Marijuana? I don't think so. That's no bias. Those are actual facts. You'd have to smoke thousands of times the dose one would use to get the desired effect to lead to death. But even that is theoretical.

I'll continue smoking it either way.

**** California.

I'm kidding. I want to go there sometime. ;(

In 2001 Portugal decriminalized the use and possession of heroin, cocaine, marijuana, LSD and other illicit street drugs.

Five years later, the number of deaths from street drug overdoses dropped from around 400 to 290 annually, and the number of new HIV cases caused by using dirty needles to inject heroin, cocaine and other illegal substances plummeted from nearly 1,400 in 2000 to about 400 in 2006.

The report shot down the assumption that liberalizing drug laws will create an increase in drug use and addiction, one of the DEA’s top ten reasons against legalization.

Portugal confirmed for bro tier.

Time for some propaganda.

I disagree with this measure, it is the opposite of legalization. It means if you give a joint to an under 21year old, you will go to jail for a shit load of time. It will also kill small growers and give one corporation a monopoly.

Absolute opposite of what should happen.

How much time? Probably no different than if I give a porn magazine to someone underage - a shit load of time.

It will also kill small growers and give one corporation a monopoly.
How, when it makes it legal to grow your own?

Opposition includes... Arnold Schwarzenegger?

Opposite of legalization? So, you want minors to be allowed to use it? This isn't candy. It's a controlled substance. It's not as toxic as alcohol but it's still a drug with mind affecting properties. Persons under the age of 21 are considered minors in this country and that is unlikely to change any time soon, if at all.

It will also kill small growers and give one corporation a monopoly.

No, it won't. Just like there are micro breweries, there will be micro growers that will supply the consumer with a superior product.

What do you care, anyway? You don't even live in the US.

It'll be just like alcohol, but instead of a proof, you'll have a THC and CBD percentage. Some people will be okay with 2%, others will want 30%. And it's not as if the consumer-run market will disappear overnight. I can't see most people suddenly trusting the government and loving their product after all the difficulties they've caused with this.

You know it's basically just enforcing the legal drinking age (which is 21 in the states) but for weed? Which is definitely the right thing to do in my opinion.

Also, "an herb"? The h in herb is not silent. Who pronounces it "erb"?

Well, everyone will be able to grow it, so I think it's a moot point. People will turn to commercial sources but the consumer market isn't going anywhere, especially considering how much weed CA is going to be exporting.

It.. It is silent, though. In American English.

And, as is, I can call up my friend and we can go get some weed no problem right now. So much easier than alcohol, and cheaper, too. I'm not much for it, though, and don't bother. From a purely non-smoker standpoint, the added taxes and revenue really could help us out.

If you say "herb" without a silent h in America, people will make fun of you. Everybody pronounces it "erb" here (except apparently my gf)

I think that prop 19 is a great thing, really indicative of changing attitudes towards weed prohibition in this country. I think it's likely that it will pass, but I wouldn't get too excited. The federal government will probably just step in and say "haha no".

Americans pronounce it "erb".

But...but "an erb" sounds silly :(

God damn it everyone should just speak Hiberian-English, it is the best dialect of English. We still have a word to distinguish between second person plural and second person singular, something every other English-speaking nation has forgotten!

Ok. I'll start speaking hiberian-english now

You know what a herb is in America? It's a ****ing retard. A flunky dumbshit.

EDIT: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=herb

Yeah, I think that's where it came from. Herbert - it's a goofy nerd name.

I've never really heard anyone use Herb as an insult, other than in song lyrics.

PFFT. I'm from the American South, where we have different words for 2nd person singular and plural - you and yall.

Already tried. Yall yanks didn't like that too much.

Thats because you were trying to take all the black people with you. Thats not an issue now, just leave Nasa with us and you can go.

But y'all is a contraction of "you all" not a word in its own right. :|

Hibernian-English is better :arms:

Sure is english class in here.
