Call of Duty 4 PC Demo - October 11th

Does the body count get to the usual millions or does it stay somewhere in a more sane region this time?

remus, settings and fps if you can.

Settings at maximum, res 1024x768, AA turned off. As for fps I don't know, but it ran fluently, no hiccups or stuttering of any kind.

Try turning up the AA to get rid of those jaggies. I have pretty much the same setup as you and run everything maxed out with full AA and AF at 1600x1200.

This game is a lot of fun to play. I really like how the guns handle.

NVIDIA 8800 GTS, 2 GB RAM, Intel DualCore 3 GHz

with that machine you should running it at a much higher res ..unless you have a 17" monitor :O

my nvidia 7800gt, 2G ram, amd x2 4200 runs the demo at 1680 x 1050 mostly high to medium settings with 2x aa and it runs fairly smooth ..I'd imagine your pc could easily do 1900 x 1200 maxed out without a problem

yes Cerpin it feels like a pc game ..at least from what little I saw ..the demo is short

Was pretty decent I guess. I'm mainly interested in the multiplayer to be honest, but it was good mindless fun while it lasted. Part of me regrets not upgrading earlier this year, but suprisingly it ran fine on an aging 9800 Pro :p. Just read about a multiplayer 'hardcore' mode which gets rid of all the indicators like grenades, enemies on the radar, and generally makes it a lot easier to die. Hopefully it'll be a little more like CoD1's multiplayer, wasn't a fan of the second at all.

I pay ?5 for a subscription on Fileplanet to get 40kb/s !!! Where are the GOOD mirrors? I hate this.

Here's my screens: http://s232.photobucket.com/albums/ee124/Phoenixx86/CoD4/

My PC is an Athlon 3800 x2 @2.4ghz, Geforce 7900GS @ 600/1600mhz, 2gb (4x512mb) DDR400 RAM. At 1024x768, 4xAA, 8xAF, and almost all max settings, I get around 35-60 FPS.

Game seems pretty good. Feels like a real PC shooter, I didn't notice any console elements (see Lost Planet (demo) for example). Played through on normal, will again on harder. My only gripe right now is that even on normal, enemies seem to notice you too easily, I just had my head above a piece of wall, and the guy up in the rubble on the second floor almost immediately stops paying attention to my teammates and starts shooting at me.

Also, so far Crysis seems like the only new game (the beta at least) that's too graphically intensive (or unoptimized) for me to run on max with decent FPS. I can run Bioshock, MoH: Airborne, and now CoD4 on (almost) all max with decent FPS. And I'm sure UT3 will run the same.

I pay ?5 for a subscription on Fileplanet to get 40kb/s !!! Where are the GOOD mirrors? I hate this.

Try fileshack.com, You can get a max of 500KB/s if you sign up (for free), or a max of 250KB/s if you don't want to sign up. I downloaded from there at my max of 192KB/s.

I can't wait to try this one. I have been worried about my single-core cpu of late with all the talk of games being designed around multi-core architectures, but it sounds like this may run pretty well with my P4 3.6 and my x850XT PE (I hope). Watched a vid of the demo being played last night and it looked like pure butter.

Core 2 Duo E6550 @ 2.33ghz
2gig Corsair DDR2 RAM
2 x 8600gt 512mb

Runs at around 40 fps with max settings and 1024 res, saw it drop to about 20 once. But hey, the 8600s do the job for dx10.

I'm getting 250k/s on flieshack ...currently at 97% ..but it doesnt matter since I wont play till about 8 hours from now

Wow, this blows.
My game gets to the menu and then crashes.

I'll redownload it after UT3.

Every game in the COD franchise have always been IMO very fun.

COD4 is no exception. Combine great visuals & audio with fun game play & you'll have a winner. The first time I threw a grenade & on accident hit one of my team mates in the back with it, only to see him stumble forward & then scramble to find cover after seeing that it was a grenade, had me staring at the screen in disbelief. Then when the grenade actually exploded , knocking one of my AI teammates to the ground who was a little too close, I had to reload the demo to do it again..and again.. and yet again.

Perhaps it was just a glitch, but every so often after one of my team mates got killed, I would see one twitch for a second or two. Not the whole body, like if it was a clipping issue, but just the arm or a single leg. If that is infact meant to happen, then that my friends, is amazing attention to detail.

What pleased me the most though, was just how smooth the game ran for me, on my computers older hardware.

1024x768, no AA or AF, all settings on & at Medium.

Intel E6400 OC to 2.41GHz
2GB A-Data DDR2-667mhz RAM
eVGA 6800 Ultra
Audigy 2 ZS
WinXP Home

I am impressed. I will be getting this game for sure.

I love the demo exept for some things:
I can feel the damn console FPS perspective thingy (or something). It`s like looking through a magnifying glass all the time, especially obvious when turning around.
I also don`t like the regenerating health (seriously, wtf?) and the nade warning. The whole thing is too dumbed down.
I`m still gonan get it though, the mods and add-ons are gonna be awesome.

1)Remove the Auto Heal feature. Maybe gain a small bit of health for every kill you get? Having health kits dropping all over the place is not the answer either. Maybe have an AI team member that acts like a medic. If it's too hard to code into the game via a patch to make him come to you when you call him or when you are hurt, then make it you have to be very close to him to auto heal. As in right next to him.

2)Remove the grenade indicator. Make it only show up if you are actively looking at it, since after all, the ability to pick it up and throw back at the enemy is a great idea.

I sure am looking forward to the game.

again, we need a multiplayer demo
MP is where this game should really shine

Really good game in my opinion! I didn't like the regenerating health in CoD2 but it looks like they've made the game much tougher to use it here.

Aye the regeneration kinda sucks, but in THIS COD it seems more realistic as youre wearing body armour etc, whereas in the last COD you were wearing...a few layers of cloth?

BUt anyway. I love the reload animations, the AI isnt that bad, such an atmosphere when the bullets start flying. Makes you really feel like youre right there in the thick of it, and this, as always, is what COD does best.

everything is on max settings high res, ****ing excellent performance,

:)

Well, I redownloaded and reinstalled and it still crashes to desktop as soon as it gets to the profile creation screen/menu screen.

The installer says it supposedly updates my Direct X when installing, I'm going to see if there's a new update for my drivers or something.
The last video driver update I got was for the Bioshock demo.

edit : That didn't work either, installed the latest drivers and restarted.
This is the error that xfire brings up :

Alright, sweet, got it working.
I just had to change mssmp3.asi to mssmp3.bak and it worked fine.
But then when I went ingame to change my resolution, the game crashed... but I fixed that too, apparently you have to turn off xfire before doing that.
But it works fine with xfire running while playing. :)

Runs smooth with me on max settings 2560x1600 with 8xaf and 4xfsaa, don't like the game though, feels so consolish, doesn't feel like the older Call Of Duty games.

As it stands, it isn't worth anything above $20 imo.

Hmm, some of you seem to be getting much lower FPS than you should be:

Constant 60 fps all settings maxed for me including AA and AF, running at 1600x1200.

E6600 @ 3.1
8800GTS @ 600/900
2gb RAM

Overall, it just doesn't feel as fun as CoD 1 and 2 to me. I'm willing to give the full game a shot though,

we need a MP demo to see if its worth geting. The 360 BETA was brilliant but I got a bad feeling the MP on PC will be a bad import like RB6: VEgas was

Just played it. Wow, that was a lot better than I was expecting. Ran a lot better too. I actually like the "regenerating health", it makes a lot more sense than medkits or magic medics. Kinda like a warning that you're getting a bunch of close call shots, then if you dont take cover or do something then you finally get shot, and thus killed. No solutions going to be perfect since no health regeneration will be realistic since it doesnt happen in real life. But I think this is the best way so far.

The guns were sweet and behaved like I would expect them. The atmosphere is intense, and the action is fantastic. Ive never been a fan of their MP, but think Ill end up getting this game for the SP.

this surely wins the prize for the worst demo size/demo length ratio ever.

1.4gb for 15 mins gameplay? yeeesh.

i enjoyed it and it was one of the best games ive ever played. i felt so immersed in the combat. i felt like i was in the battle not just playing in it. cod 2 sucked imo.

Good gameplay, albeit a bit chaotic. The graphics are good, realistic, although the game has several quirks and one thing irks me.

WHY THE **** DID THEY CHANGE THE AWESOME PSO-1 SCOPE ON THE DRAGUNOV TO A SHITTY GENERIC ONE?!
