Call of Duty 4

Hmmm, modern warfare can't really be glorified as much as WW2, but I bet it'll be fun

MODERN WARFARE!
http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/783/783270p1.html

not many details but it's gonna be revealed on saturday the 28th during the nfl draft
sounds like a good move in my opinion... ive had it with WWII fps' myself
:bounce:

so it's aimed at casual gamers ...in other words CoD3 but with different skins/less germans

hmmm modern battlefields? I guess they'll take out all references to anything even remotely historic

features:

"help overthrow the democratically elected government of <insert south/central american country here>

"join an undercover group of CIA trained operatives as you torture, murder your way through the Congo, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Indonesia .... "

"help napalm cambodians"

"now featuring waterboarding, genital electrocution, assassination by proxy, civilian death squads etc"

actually if the game is that factual I might actually purchase it but somehow I think not ...they'll probably just do away with any sort of historical fact and set it during some fictional conflict like BF2

Fine...make another thread about it. We all know my thread is the REAL one...;(

It will probably just be another fictional middle eastern war. Hell, they may even throw in China like every other damn game.

It would be interesting to see a game based on the current Iraq war ... there's a lot that could said with a medium like games. Sadly, these aren't the people to do it. Their idea of an emotional moment is generic war movie orchestra cued up when you push the button to mount an MG-42 triggering three dozen Nazi's to charge you head first.

the day games become a mouth piece for truth and accountability will be the day games becomes art

LOL
why did you have to hijack this thread?
i was able to enjoy a game like BF2 by simply ignoring its political implications

Another post from Stern and I bet we'll have to move this Call of Duty 4 thread to politics.

Is that the actual title? Modern Warfare?

Bleh...they could have come up with something better than that.

OMG

Wasn't someone in some thread in a galaxy millions of miles away guessing that they would call it Modern Warfare :D

They must have reinvented the whole wheel while making that name.

CoD is one of the suckiest game series around.

Let's not get carried away! When I first joined here (my join date), I bought CoD because what seemed like 9/10 of you guys recommend it as one great game. I didn't get into it that much for some reason, but if it was the only game I had, I would have finished it.

I still have it although I never got to far.

The CoD2 demo was pretty spectacular at the time, with tremendous explosions and really nice graphics. I didn't buy it because my PC couldn't play it very well, and it just didn't hook me, but a good game none the less. My little brother really liked it for the PC and wanted CoD for the 360 when that came out.

Cod2 scored a 10 for the 360 didn't it?

From a non-biased point of view, it seems like the series is getting more and more polished, and even came out of nowhere and is a great rival for the tarnishing Medal of Honor series.

I'm going to do what I usually do, listen to the reviews, and rumors, and hopefully catch the demo to decide for myself if it's teh suck. You should too.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

They are advertising it during the super bowl, that is pretty fin ambitious. Hopefully they show gameplay and not a bunch of hype and CGI.

Virus ignore him, he pretty much hates any good game. In fact you can use his opinion as a rule of thumb to see which games are good, the more he hates a game, the better it is.

Um, I think it's the during the draft...unless I am missing something. ;)

Word. Those CoD commercials have always sucked because they are all CG so Joe Sixpack thinks the game plays like it looks which is WRONG WRONG WRONG!!

no argument there
although i absolutely LOVED the first COD and the expansion, COD2 and 3 were major disappointments IMHO
hopefully they can freshen up the series with #4

Plenty of games have already done that. Look harder.

such as?

what political implications? in bf2? it couldnt possibly be more politically neutral unless you had completely fictionaized nations

and it wasnt a thread hijack ..it's completely on topic

Thanks for the correction, I didn't read it very carefully at all.

And yeah, are they the ones who had the game called CoD RED SQUAD or something like that?! OH, wait a minute, that really pissed me off! What a gimmick, a trick to steal money from naive consumers.

False advertisement.

The commercial should advertise the item for sale don't you think?! :flame: If it was real footage, then that's one thing, but using high tech computer graphics to represent a video game is trickery, flat-out.

uhhh USMC vs Middle Eastern Coalition?
released during a real life campaign in the middle east?
let's try and stick to COD 4 content though shall we?
:P

sure it will be a midle east game, since the name is call of duty them it will be about the duty of the USA to eliminate the terroirst-facists-comunist arabs and the goodnes of the war on iraq

and since it will be anounced in the super bowl thing where the companyes unleahs theyr publicity bombs them sure it will be 0 gameplay and only a fest og CGI hyped USA-marines-killing-arabs-"kickass action" followed by goarmy.com stuff

so I have low hopes

It's about as apolitical as a game based on modern warfare can be. As far as I can tell they removed any implication of terrorism and didn't name any specific Middle Eastern countries. The game makes no statement whatsoever, it's just kind of there.

Generals ... now that was a game that actually had a significant political leaning. Unfortunately it was silly, extremely nationalistic crap. Still a fun game though :p .

David Jaffe (God of War) guy was working on a modern war game that was supposed to be extremely controversial and political. Too bad it got canned.

If this game is actually based on the Iraq war and done in an intelligent, reasonable manner, I would be thrilled. That means not having the overwhelming majority of soldiers run around raping and smashing brains. It also means no sappy flag waving, inspirational pep talks about how you're fighting for truth and justice, and Iraqi's lining the streets throwing flowers at you.

In all likelihood though, it will follow the mold of the second example but be based on a completely fictional war. At least the gameplay will probably still be good, maybe even better than the WW2 games.

And I'm still waiting for my damn Vietnam game. That is by far the best war to base a videogame on, and it's actually socially accepted to be very political about it too. There was a period when they were being made a lot, but we never got a particularly good one.

I'm still waiting for a Korean war game, so under represented.

I think in BF2 the americans were the bad guys. :O

you're kidding right? about the only thing that was even remotely political was the inclusion of "middle east" in their title ...it's so far removed from reality that they might as well have called them Spartans

Sometimes I wonder if we are, if you see the news it's one scandal after another! But the enemy always has to outdo us, with something even more appalling. I know it's sick, but I almost feel better when the enemy does something heinous, so that I know we aren't as despicable as the bad guys. I'm going to go cry now.

Micheal Jackson needs to come back and sing 'we are the world' for us! That will unite the globe!

Well think about it. They're rampaging across the middle east for no apparent reason, no justification is ever given for why the USMC has been unleashed on the MEC, there are no maps with the MEC attacking the US.

With China it could be slightly different (because of Wake Island) but for the ME conflict, I'd say the Americans were almost certainly the agressors.

the world needs a macarena comeback to be in peace

and who wants to bet whit me about this?

teh trailer

Not much useful info there.
It is indeed modern warfare.
The premise seems to be US special forces vs. Ehvl terrorists.
No info on platform or release date.

Gives a link in the end to an "extended uncut" trailer, but the link is dead for the time being.

Impossible to say from the trailer wether or not they are going to keep the CoD "feel", but as a fan of the series I certainly hope so.
