Call of Duty Black Ops

Hmm, that's weird. I double checked and it's correct, I don't know why it would say it's invalid.

Anyone noticed after you

The USSR rocket, the building starts to fall apart

Anyone reminded of a Black Mesa going to shit homage?

Is it worth just for the SP? I am unable to play MP due to the shitty university internet which gives lovely pings' of about 200-400.

Just finished the campaign.

I knew there was something going on with Reznov, especially when he seemed to drop out of nowhere a couple of times, but I hadn't expected him to be ... well ... dead. I did hope he wouldn't turn on me, because I really started to like him. I might even get World at War now, since he plays quite a big role in that.

All in all I enjoyed myself quite a bit. I liked it a lot better than the first Modern Warfare (dunno about the second, haven't played that). Ideal mindless popcorn entertainment.

Depends on what you want to get out of it. I enjoyed the ride, even though it is short (about six hours for me). The campaign in itself doesn't offer that much replayability, unless you're big on achievements and playing it on harder difficulties. I am gonna play the second mission again though. That was the best imo.

I had it worked out around 3 levels before the end. Not only was it the dropping in and out but also that your team mates never acknowledge his presence, especially when you meet up with him again for the first time after the Gulag breakout and your squad doesn't question who this Russian is you have just appeared with. I also didn't realise that this was the Resnov from WaW until I looked it up on Wiki, but I knew I recognised him from somewhere else.

I never even noticed Bruce Willis was a ghost in The Sixth Sense until the very end. Go figure. :)

SP could of been better, if those f*cking flashbacks didn't give me headaches every 5 minutes of the game

I can understand veterans of the COD franchise would know the drill about the gameplay, but given this game has no huge significance with both the WWII and MW parts of this franchise, this game was probably in need of an introductory level/s and not throw you directly into the fight.

Eh, played 15 min of MP and my initial reaction? Buyer's remorse. It felt bad, really bad. And this isn't coming from a CoD hater, I loved the game that was underneath MW2's rubbish restrictions and I was hoping this would be MW2 but without the bullshit, but this felt nothing like that. The graphics are terrible as well, looks and feels like a poor 2005 era CS clone. The bad first impression I'm getting is probably exacerbated by mouse jitter/lag, which is probably fixable by changing a setting, but still. And yes, I only played 15 min, but that's because I turned it off in disgust. I felt absolutely no joy from playing it, the guns felt and sounded weak and the characters felt like they were floating.

The quality of this game is really poor, everything from the graphics to the awful script is just...bad. The constant bland metal riffs that pop up in single-player combined with the low res textures and awful Manchurian Candidate storyline really makes me glad I only rented this.

This weekend I'll give the MP a shot, I hope it can keep me interested for a bit.

This game is absolutely unplayable on my computer, even on the lowest settings. Meanwhile my computer can handle MW2 on full settings.

Hmm, that's weird. I double checked and it's correct, I don't know why it would say it's invalid.

I was going to ask if your friends list was full but then an invite went through.

I'll probably be getting it tomorrow.

Will finally get to start playing this tonight, was too busy Tuesday and yesterday.

I barely have time to play the game. I hate November because I'm so busy and more tired with less sunlight. anyway played some multiplayer and did really good on my last match. i usually can't go to sleep unless i head to bed with a win in my head

edit: i've also noticed a lot of hate towards the low/res textures and i hate hearing people bitching both ways. the game is fun to play with friends, theres plenty of modes, and there is probably more on the way. besides who sits there sitting at the wall all day. i can do that in my computer room and scrutinize the same way

Man I forced myself to play through the poor performance issues and I can tell that Treyarch hit the sweet spot with the balance here. Feels like playing a buffed up COD4 now.

Now if they let me stay on the same team with my friends and fix up that lag shit.

Oh, god, I might have to play through it just because you did. I changed some setting last night that made it go from entirely unplayable to playable, but annoying as all hell.

"360 also trumps the PS3 version when it comes to shadowing, which DF claims is "poorly filtered and of a lower resolution" on Sony's console.

However, perhaps the biggest talking point is frame rate.

There's a fine line in this perceptual divide, but when there can be as much as a 20FPS difference between the two versions, it's safe to say that it's the Xbox 360 version that more consistently delivers the feel of 60FPS gameplay.

The news comes after PS3 players took to Treyarch's forums to complain about a host of in-game bugs."

Bought it for ps3

Multiplayer/Zombie online/offline can be played in co-op. I think only 2 local players can do online though.

That's kind of disappointing, considering the last three outings ran fine on PS3. Is the engine really that different/bad?

Apparently. I haven't heard anything good about the PC version either.

Just looked at the comments. These people have no sense of humor. LOL

On topic, this game is TRASH. Quit playing after the first mission, then nuked it.

My game crashed first time when I configured my resolution settings. Then my game crashed during the first interrogation cut scene sequence. Then my game crashed when loading the first mission after the cut scene.

Between those crashes I googled fixes, checked Steam forum & updated my graphics card drivers (although it wasn't completely essential). No changes. So...now I'm posting here and I won't be playing it again until I see a relevant patch. It seems there have been a ton of issues...real shoddy.

AFAIR, the previous MW games were pretty good on launch. I recall being able to play the SP without any issue. I let MP slide because network issues plague many new games but SP being this fudged is lazy as ****.

It's not, by appearances at least. People who have it on console, or can run it well with high settings on PC, are reporting it looks marginally better than World at War, which is the engine it was based off of (which was, in turn, based off of the CoD 4 engine I believe). Honestly it seems like a pretty shoddy release on all fronts - PS3 players have framerate problems, Xbox players have network problems (unable to form parties/join certain game modes), and of course PC players get the wrong end of the dowsing rod again. I like to give developers the benefit of the doubt as often as I can, but I honestly can't comprehend how such a widespread problem made it through QA. It's doesn't even seem to be limited to any specific hardware configs, it's just ****ing unplayable for a good portion of the playerbase for no apparent reason. Not cool.

People are already starting to notice some other broken or hashed together elements in the PC version, as well. There's no way to play with friends on ranked servers (which are the only way to rank up, which is kind of integral to the game), as there's no way to party up and, for some mystifying reason, you're completely unable to choose or switch your team. To top this off, there is no auto-balance if they become uneven. You can go an entire match with 1 guy against a full team of 9 and nothing will happen. What else... oh, there's no /connect to IP option in the console, even though it's been a consistent part of the engine since ****ing Quake 3. This wouldn't be so bad if the server browser were capable, but nope. Because of heavy load on Gameservers (the sole provider of dedicated servers, because that was a great idea), the browser will only display a certain number of servers so as not to cause too much additional stress, and it seems to be entirely random. This, coupled with the fact that there is no other way to join a server directly (besides being invited by someone in there, which is also pretty much broken), means that not only players, but the actual owners of said servers cannot find or connect to them in many instances. Apparently the limit on the browser is a temporary measure to allow for a smoother launch (ha!), which seems like bull when you realise that more people are still playing Modern Warfare 2 than Black Ops on Steam.

The best part, though? They completely scrapped the lobby system, just for PC players. The upside to this is that you don't have to wait a minute or two between each match. The downside is you literally cannot change your custom classes around (again, kind of an integral part of the game) unless you leave the ****ing server and do it via the main menu. I mean... holy shit. How do you mess that up? As if that weren't enough, the time between rounds is so short (something like 10-15 seconds), you don't even have enough time to read the incredibly detailed after-match statistics they obviously put so much effort into.

Jesus christ. If it were just the stuttering issue, and there were a good explanation for it and perhaps a timely fix, I probably wouldn't have cared in the long run. But this? This is not the "glorious return to PC gaming" we were promised. Perhaps it seems naive of me to have expected more of them... well, yeah, it was. But ****ing hell, I never expected it would be this bad. :(

The worst part, though? Besides all of the things I just mentioned, there does seem to be a really fun game in there waiting to be enjoyed, buried beneath all the crap. It's just... buried a bit too deep.

TL;DR - Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

Wow, that sounds ****ing awful. I hope my little brother didn't buy this...

Oh, god, I might have to play through it just because you did. I changed some setting last night that made it go from entirely unplayable to playable, but annoying as all hell.

What setting? It's like a slideshow for me once anyone starts shooting. And that happens every 1.23 seconds.

Open Black Ops folder > Players folder > config (open in notepad or whatever is default) > Search for "seta r_multithreaded_device" and change the "0" to a "1", save

It helped a little.

Releases like this kill PC gaming? Not exactly perfect on PS3 or 360 though.

I am so pissed off at them for this. I was looking forward to this game. Nothing but problems. Laggy as shit.

We even rented a server for this. The kicker there is our server can't be found because their server browser is all ****ed up.

How they can actually release crap like this is unbelievable.

Hmm, Guess I'm the only person on here with no issues whatsoever, even played a spot of multi last night and the experience was flawless and much more enjoyable than MW2. Hope they sort out other peoples issues pretty quick.

Patch was just applied to MP, some people are saying it's fixed their stuttering. Will test in a minute...

it's much better, but not totally gone for me.
Yeah, this. Kind of a pain, since even though 90% of the stuttering is gone in multi, there's still just enough to **** up my aim. And not being able to aim properly is kind of a big deal...

Single player is still the same old mess.

I still have a little stuttering during the cut-scene videos and stuff but I'm just glad after this patch that I can even play the SP. Enjoying it so far, just on my way back to Vietnam. Loved the incendiary Spas12, good times :D
