Can We Save HL2???

Hello,
Half-Life 2 has made alot of cash for it's creators and team,
but if we could have more use of the engine we saw in single player mode in multiplayer mode, Half-Life 2 would make a hell of alot more TIME and MONEY to keep the ball rolling in it's fans' favor.
I am done with grammer now....

the ending sucked, there are many bugs in the game (crashes, the crate you had to blow in order to jump the dang ramp, etc.)

what put us in awe of this games' engine was the striders, gunships, scanners and man hacks, and the textures +more, but dang it man, that was all in single player mode!!!!!!!!

How much more money would they have made if they had made all of that available in multiplayer?
I love the HL2 engine. I don't ever want to buy another game from someone else and i wouldn't if i knew that this issue would be addressed.

The developers aren't hearing us.
I would have hated counter-strike and any game that valve come out with if it were not for the modders and coders that made the awesome mods they made for multiplayer action.

So that's what leads me to this forum. I have a couple of ideas to "save" our favorite game developers .... ONCE MORE )(sigh):

MULTIPLAYER IDEAS
1. Pilotable vehicles; striders(done) still waiting for mp though:) and gunships; PLUS maybe even more vehicles.
2. Turn the scanners and man hacks into controlable objects like cameras.

I hope i speak for us all when i say this and i hope that one or all of the HL2 developers read it:
I am tired of seeing the developers leave it up to not profit modders to "spice up" their "presented" games. Yeah we love your games, but you deserve a kick in your arse for Half-Way creating and finishing a game!!!

How odd, to see one argue with himself.

The game seems finished to me. Striders being pilotable in Multiplayer would be overkill - there are reasons Valve don't to certain things.

Valve are doing the smartest thing in game making industry. Half-Life 1 was so popular becuase of Fan made mods. Valve doesn't have to spend any money at all to lure more players in over the years.

Counter Strike was so popular they bought it up (same with DOD) to make even more money. by creating a stand alone version.

The same goes with Half-Life 2.

Counter Strike was fan made.

For the last time hl2dm is deathmatch. Vehicles don't belong in deathmatch. Controllable objects? possible the worst idea i've heard all day.

The game is finished. It has lived up to all the hype and then some. The Half-Life community is unique like every other. To put it bluntly thousands of people would be dissapointed if Valve went ahead and created every possible combination of gameplay ideas. With so many users Valve don't really know what the masses want. So they lie in wait and snatch up the most popular fan made mods.

Controllable objects can be fun actually. There's a Source [WIP] map that does this exact same thing: dm_cranefight

<<There are two (or more?) cranes on a dock which can lift up shipping containers to drop them on other players, or give your team cover, or perhaps to create a corridor of death etc.>>

There are plenty of other maps that have done this to great effect, dm_snarkpit etc.

However I do disagree with the rest of the first guy's post. Valve have left it out for a reason. Who knows, perhaps they're holding back on it for an add-on pack?

HL2DM was the afterthought, everybody complaining left right and center that there was no proper DM. It came, it was fun for a little, then it bored us to tears. They worked on CS:S which is a damn fine game on it's own and is exceedingly popular. They produced hl2 which is in my mind the greatest fps experience ever.

As for vehicles, wait for TF2. As for more content, wait for DOD:S. If those two don't tickle your fancy then wait for the 10000's of mods.

What I want from valve is: Fix bugs(like the purple bump map prob), add VAC, add content slowly but steadily (CS:S maps, models), fix Vampire bloodlines (hahaha) and make tf2, tfc:s, hl3

Of course they do. Jeep wars anyone? I'm still waiting for someone picking the easy way, making a map and duplicating the SDK jeep all over :)

Good Points

Hey, I'm sorry if i have offended anyone.
I didn't mean to start an arguement.

My whole intention was to make some modders & coders feel good and hyped about the work they've done and are doing. However, from my point of view the modders & coders are my heros as i see them as "saving" the Half-Life crews' image.

Just a question...What would happened if noone intented or if noone modded with the engine?

No doubt that Valve and the HL2 team has made a hefty fortune already and from HL2 itself, but to simplify my meaning of "saving" Half-Life....i wouldn't play another day if all that i had was that delivered by the Steam application. I mean hell, my friends' list still doesn't work to this day LOL!

We're all on the same team here. I mean here i am in a HL2 forum and playing with the HL2 engine. Cheers
