I'm tired of my old avatar, so I want to change it, but I'm not able to go down to 29kB with it's size. At 50x37 full quality it's 36,7kB, when I go down with the quality to 1 in Irfanview (when you can't tell what the picrute presents) it's still 34,8kB. Can anyone help me out? I've attached my avatar.

Due to wierdness I can only get it over the limit or under 7kb(needless to say the quality is crap)

1.3k/b. That wasn't hard now, was it?

Thank you :) What program did you use? I wonder why IrfanView couldn't do that.

What program did I use? Microsoft paint. I just saved it as a JPEG. You sure you weren't saving / exporting it as a BMP file, or another hefty filetipe?

Irfanview works fine. You must've saved it as some weird filetype, use JPEG at about 90%.

LOL, I was saving it as jpeg with IrfanView, I even checked now. Though when I opened it with paint and saved again, like Suicide42, it dropped to the 1kB size. Hmmm...

It might be that Irfanview can alter the settings of the JPEG filetype... e.g. how many colours are used, how much the image is distorted etc... and while on paint JPEGs are crappy and hence low sizes, on Infraview they might be really amazing quality. You can tell just by looking at your origonal attachment, actually- because your 30k/b version looks a lot crisper than the one I saved.

Nah, I took the image and saved it as a JPG in Irfanview, it ended up at 1.49kb. Even if I put the quality to 100, it still only ends up at 2.98kb. If you view the properties of the file it shows a bunch of crap about a camera and it says the horizontal and vertical resolution is "300 dpi". So thats why I think you saved it as something weird. :p

You'd be surprised how small a BMP file can be if you let it handle small formats (like 50X50 or 19X23 or something)
