cd-rw problems

for some weird reason my burner doesn't read blank cd's anymore. it just say "please insert blank cd" . my old burner used to do that also so I changed it to the one I have now. well the one I have now is atleast 4 years old. is that their way of saying bye bye or is there something I can do to try to fix it?

also, I'm looking into buying a new sound card, any advice on a good soundcard that isn't too expensive but not too cheap either?

I would go for the X-Fi rather than the 2Z. It is only $130 for the basic card, Xtreme Music, and has noticably improved sound quality over the 2Z (I have owned both). Plus the CMSS-3D headphones support for games is something that must be heard to be believed.

Have you tried different types of disks?

Its weird, I just started having the same problem myself. My burner drive will not read any disk and refuses to stay closed. The tray keeps popping out as if it is expecting a cd.

oh yeah! I tried 4 different kinds, I also tried to disconnect the burner and then replug it. It plays regular cd's... it's kinda like if it turned into a regular cd rom.

thanks staticprimer and Devvo. but is sound blaster really the best?

You can buy a CD-RW for under $30, easily and DVD-RW for $50 so replacing a burner isnt too expensive.

As for a soundcard, I love my X-fi and it does sound great, although if you dont really need the best, you could always pick up an Audigy 2 for cheaper.

I had that problem before. I just reinstalled the drivers and it worked again. Could be the same with you. Also, maybe reinstall a fresh windows again to reset all the settings.

Know an easy way for me to find drivers for my cd-rw drive?

try a cleaner, just a disk with some brush thingy's on the bottoms to clean the lens or w/e in the burner, if that doesnt worked then your burner is either dead or your computer is infact haunted.

I did more then that, I wiped my hard drive and there is no drivers for my cd-rw.
I guess my best bet would be just to buy a new one. it's almost an antic anyways lol.

hmmm, that is something different, will look more into it. thanks venom.... and everybody else too:E
