City-17 Delay Article *Funny*

I just read this at City-17:

Half-Life 2 Release Speculation
By: MaJ-ReD

As the days between present and the release of Half-Life 2 become less and less, we see people speaking their mind on the relese date, and if Valve will make the date or not. Of course this is all speculation, as nothing is official. However, today we received an email from a fan who was talking to the manager at the local GameSpot. Here is what he had to say:
About an hour ago I talked to a manager at the local GameSpot about Half-Life 2. I asked him about the release date and about all the rumors relating to it. He said that it wasn't going to make its September 30th date. He knew this because he recently went to a training seminar where Valve showed up and talked about HL2, showing the same footage from E3. They said that unfortunately they would not make their date but would release it hopefully sometime before Christmas.
Although this is still not official, when I went down to talk to the guys at EB this past weekend, they gave me similar information, although it was their suppliers that got the information, and not them directly.

As always, we'll try to keep you guys informed on all the information going around, in an attempt to iron out the BS, and bring you the most accurate and true speculation as humanly possible. More as it develops.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Personaly I think it's BS and that a real site like City-17 should have know better than post that, but it is what it is.

Lol. Guess City-17 talked to their EB guy too.

Why are you even posting this? Retailers don't have a clue about release dates. I remember back in the console days (well...when I used to play consoles heh) they were never right.

If it is delayed, we'll soon find out. Speculation will be the death of us (you?)

ehm, there's like a policy about posting delay threads based on a local store manager.

so i guess all i have to say is:
ibtl;
pc++;

"an email from a fan who was talking to the manager at the local GameSpot." - why not the friend of the sister of a cousin that talked to the salesclerk's brother in an unknown store in France who heard by a customer, that his brother thinks Half Life 2 could be delayed?

I'm posting it because to me it's funny how City-17 would do a "delay article" based on a fan email based on a guy at GameStop.

Might be just me, but I thought that was funny.

I'm reporting about an article on a well know HL2 site. This isn't a "delay thread" but thanks for the news flash.

Hilarity has nothing to do with it. The people here are worse then piranahs, posting this is like taking a cow leg and tossing it in the river to get them riled up. Let's face it, people here cannot have a civilized discussion regarding this as the two 'groups' of people feel so strongly about their 'release dates'.

It is pretty sad. Regardless this thread will be closed in the morning, and I predict there will be 3 pages of flames and nonsense.

Don't they mean "Gamestop"?

Yeah they do. I made the same mistake in one of my posts on this thread too (but its been fixed now.)

they mean: "look at city 17, we generate a new unfound rumour every day, that's how we get well known and many visitors"

I just never understand why Valve are supposedly admitting delays to:
Fragmaster
The media
Sweaty seminars full of greasy game retail workers
Seems strange.
And by the way, a seminar on WHAT exactly?
"Here's footage of a delayed game. It's delayed. <Long pause> Well, I hope you enjoyed the seminar and have become better people for it. Goodbye."

The new engine?

this is sounding more and more likely...ive heard almost the exact same story from at least 5 sources...thats pretty convincing...im just hoping for a steam release at least

Doubt that. Most of the guys at GameStop, EB, etc don't even know what CPU stands for.

Seminar my ass, just a bad joke on City-17.

Don't forget the time when an EB Manager from Austrailia went and played Half-Life 2 at a Vivendi event.

sorry for failing to see the difference between a post about:
"talking to a local gameshop manager who says hl2 is delayed."
and
"another website talking to a local gameshop manager who says hl2 is delayed."

Now i know you think it's silly they post crap like that, but wouldn't the policy indicate we all think it's silly? just my 0.02€

The point of my post was NOT to spark discussion about the validity of the article but rather it's stupidity.

Are you seriously telling me that this thread isn't a little bit more amusing than 90% of the stuff on here?

If you can't see how funny it is that a major site would base news on an unconfirmed email from a guy who talked to a guy at Gamestop who had gone to a seminar where Valve "showed up" and told them what they won't tell any of the press than too bad for you, dude.

(Sorry about the run-on sentence but you guys need to lighten up a little.)

I had no idea about that...
I retract all my demeaning thoughts about sweaty, greasy retail-chimps.

<Reads post again, and subsequent posts>
Hang on! There's no proof, no nothing! I'm not calling Kamakiri a liar, but the retail-chimp may very well be. sounds way too much like the video/a million magazine previews. Even Kamakiri didn't believe him.
Pfft. Exclusive playtest-retail-chimp my arse.

Wait, you took what I said about the EB Manager seriously? I meant for you to add it to your list of "secret relationships with Retailers and printed press" things.

To me its UNCONVINCING
Everyones getting it by EMAIL - possibnly from one single source.
Hmmmm - very suspicious. :borg:

<Dies>

But yeah... Erm. It's all a conspiracy. Gotta be.

I'm just going to wait and see what happens on 30/9. Pointless getting all excited about rumours which may come to nothing.

wrong. its a situation we would all like to believe sure. unfortunatly the major retailers have direct communication with publishers. publishers give them the release dates based on what they see presented from the developer. publishers keep eagle eyes on two things, 1, their bottom line, 2, their release dates. theres alot of communcation going on behind our backs between Vivendi/Valve/retailers and Co. Make no mistake, the Nov release date wasnt pulled out of thin air. Good news though, things can change over time. If Valve surges forward in a developement period, the release date can change for the better based on what the publisher sees, and the publisher is always watching.

I would agree with you BUT Vivendi haven't just been saying November. They've also said Feburary and September.

Read my last line. The door swings both ways.

Well spoken.

You said "surges forward in a development period" makes it sound as if HL2 is still very much a work in progress. Actually, last word was that it was in final play-testing. And that was a while ago.

Man iam tired of all these threads about Delays !!!!

We will know soon, meanwhile go **** a goat !

The problem with HL2 is that Vivendi says one thing and Valve says another. Who is right?

Each to their own. Personally I'd rather have a cup of tea...

Not looking good at all !!

It's been more than two months and we haven't got any official news whatsoever. If the game is delayed now (or even later this week), let me tell you that I'm going to be a bit upset. Not because HL2 is pushed back (meaning I can't play it NOW) but because of the lack of Valve's honesty (and I'm only talking in case of a delay).

But if the game comes out next Tuesday (Wednesday) as it should, as we've been told all along by Valve, well... Hats off to all the team ! They'd have pulled the best marketing scheme in the gaming history !
