anyone ever done one?

I've got a screening for one tomorrow. Basically If successful I spend 2 nights in hospital and then do 14 half hour follow up sessions and they pay any travel expenses.

At the end of it all I get £1300

whaddya think?

what are you testing out? Aids vaccine? Ebola treatments? Maybe hanta virus treatments as well?

Heh...I'm gonna be doing something similar. I spend two nights in the facility :p

I also have to visit them in the mornings for a week. They are testing out a new painkiller, but that means they have to do stuff like heat my arm etc to see if its numbed.

I get £1400 for it though :D

The people that do it here are based in Manchester and its called Medival.

Lol i tryed to do this last year all was going fine until i had my medical, and found out i got high triglyceride levels and that they wouldnt take me.
Grrrr i was looking forward to that £!600, im ok now i think, eating alot better and back on the weights.

Good luck m8.

Drugs are stupid. I've got drugs 2 times, for 2 times in the hospital.
Again my own will. I hate it.

Do they do any of this in America? Is it for people that are under 18 years of age? (I'm almost 17)

I suspect they do a lot of that in America, in fact probably more so than here (Don't you get paid for giving blood?:O At least, just normally, not at special events.). I also reckon you need to be 18, considering what goes on.

America is the most stupid country of them all, go to TV and tell them about a "drug-testing reality show" when the one with the most dangerus or laxetive drugs win $1000.

I'll bet that it will air in Sweden 2 days after the premiere.

Bloodgiving is okey, it's for a good cause.
Isn't it some sort of unofficial rule to pay for blood?

Geez, that didn't sound right.

Well over here you give it for free...I'm not saying the system in America is bad, but you have to question why people are giving blood when they get paid. Obviously there are screening processes, but still any old hobbo could walk in there hoping for some money.

Is there something wrong with drugs testing, at least in your view?

Well, no, it isn't bad if it works.
You answers your own question there, but most people give blood for helping, and it feels good after.
Any hobo can't go in to donate blood, since you'll have to go through many tests first checking medecins or HIV and that stuff.
The "standards" are very very high in Sweden, and if you're good well, lucky you.

here in america most people don't get paid to give blood. we have blood drives and we get t-shirts and cookies :)

i almost got to be in a trial, but i had to go back to school. they were going to bronchoaveolar lavage me. basically stick tube down into my lungs and collect fluids.

Yeah, that was kind of what I meant by the "Special events". But if you were to just walk into a clinic off the street wouldn't you get money?

I'm going to give blood...Although, I can't do it for quite a while because of this Medical testing thing. Who knows, one day my own given blood may be pumped back into me to save my life :O

Just make sure you know exactly what they are putting into you. And all known side effects... could be some new "Stupid pill"...

Depends really...If you were to go for this one just look up "Medival" in the phone book(I could get money if you were to say you heard it from me...The real me, not FarrowLeSparrow:p). Depends where you would be doing it really.

You'd be damn lucky to suvive if it was, since blood only lasts a few days, and if you had an accident (that required blood) a day or too after giving blood you'd not have long. :s

Still, it's nice to think that it could be going to save someone's life.

A few days? Are you sure....

I was led to believe that once they speparate out everything they actually use, then they can keep it for weeks rather than days.

Sorry, my mistake, was thinking of platelets:

Blood is a fragile substance. It is a liquid living tissue and the different components can be kept alive for a defined amount of time depending on component. Red Blood Cells last 42 days; Platelets last 5 days; Plasma can be frozen and stored for one year.

Oh my gosh, that job would be a dream come true :), apart from the part where i grow the third leg out my rectum :(.
