Cloverfield

AS FAR AS I KNOW THIS IS A ****ING

So wait, is this the actual monster or just a small one because it doesn't look as big as that one gif with the legs.

If that's the monster....Where the hell is it? IS that the perspective of a cameraman underneath the monster? Also is the monster black or are those just shadows?

Of course it is the cameraman.

Honestly, it's better than the usual snake/lizard/fish/frog mutant monsters. Still though...

I assume there isn't actually a reason for the existence of this monster apart from it's just there a la JJ Abrams style :|

omfg that shit looks disgustingly.. cool. YES! Comes out tomorrow!

Those pic's are really real right? I don't know it just looks to small. remember in the promo it was several storys sp* tall? In these pics it's...well short. I don't think it's real.

The monster is about 30-40 stories tall, but it doesn't have a very bulky build from what I've read and seen. That gives it the effect of seeming small.

Man, I just got back from seeing the movie. I really liked it, the monster thing was really awesome looking
Though I can't say I really liked all those lil buggers it spawned off, but it worked since there was little actual footage of the thing during the first 3/4ths of the movie and there needed to be action when all they were doing was walking through tunnels and buildings.
I'm not sure most of you will like it since a lot of the audience seemed disappointed when it ended, but what can one honestly expect out of a movie that's filmed like this?

I don't feel like writing too much about it since my primary purpose in this post is to gloat about how I saw it first. Hah, at least I'm honest. And that spoiler isn't a picture.

So was the monster the one picture I posted and gif that Willie posted?

The one you both posted. That sketch version you put up is pretty much it, face and all. Except for the fact that it has like weird lung things on the side of its face that inflate and deflate as it breathes. Thats what those big red things are in the gif and not its eyes. Also, I'm pretty sure it only had four limbs and not those little ones like the sketch shows. I actually didn't like that part of the movie since it gave you a straight shot of the thing and I thought it detracted from all the other cooler parts of the movie (the gif).

And the sound the lil dudes make is kinda funny. Suprisingly the movie has a lot of humor in it becuase the camera man is kinda dumb and doesn't know what to say half of the time and ends up saying something dumb, hah.

monster dont look so original

and so its good or what?

it have 76% on rottentomatoes but I dont pay attention to that site since die hard 4 got 80%

Saw it today. Easily one of the best monster movies I've seen in a while.

All the scenes with the monster were done incredibly well, from the planes bombing it, to the last scene where it just stares hud down and then proceeds to ruin his shit. Great. And jesus christ hud was such a believable character. The kind of jackass you know would think to keep running a video camera during something like that

Yeah

There were a few moments that bothered me, although that part really didn't get me that much. Only part that made me roll my eyes was the whole "You came back for me!" "Of course I came back for you". Also, Was it me or did the monsters size seem to change during the movie? For instance at times it seems to dwarf most of the sky scrapers in the city, and at other times (like the last scene) the opposite seemed to be true.

Yeah

OMGZ CLOVERFIELD

Also I found that
the explosions from the tanks, army dudes and planes were rather inconsistent... And I'm not even the kind of person who would usually care about that. I mean, it took pretty much no visible damage from the stealth bomber. The creatures attack on the chopper seemed like someting to continue the plot.

I think most of the time it was walking around on all fours, and when it stood up it was tall as ****. Which would make the helicopter chomp more possible, but i still didnt like how it knew that their chopper was in the air in that exact spot despite him being entire engulfed in smoke. It also bothered me that it would even care about the helicopter after being hit directly with several bombs.

I still loved the movie though. My roomate and one friend didnt like it because of the ending, but the friends i saw it with like it as much as i did. Im wondering if they'll do a sequel to explain the monster more, and explain what happened with Mrs Exploding Head when she got bit. Im also wondering if they'll make a video game out of it. Seems like it has good potential as a game.

I'm pretty sure that there was no other way in which they could have ended it. The conclusion was perfect. Shocking, but perfect.

My roomate and friend said it was just abrupt for them. And said that most of the people in the theater stayed to see if there was something after the credits to "explain" things better.

Oh, it certainly was abrupt. But I realised that nothing more could be said. It's a military tape, not a movie.

If its any consolation after the credits,

You hear a whispering, and at first people though it said "help us", but someone managed to record it through one of those hearing things some thearters have, and reversed it and you hear this: http://boomp3.com/m/bd034dfca370

Did anybody else who's seen the movie think ..

The little bug like monsters sounded and looked exactly like antlions?

Dunno if that qualifies as a spoiler, probably not.

****ing hell, just reading the Wiki summery of the general reception of the film and some of the critics' comments make me want to pound my head against a wall. Seriously, stop ****ing putting the film down because you think that because it involves New York having it's shit torn up it's going to try and convey some message about 9/11. Yeah, maybe so but really - It's a goddamn monster movie. If they could get some commentary across that's cool but I'm not going to nit pick it it does or didn't. It's not my priority to look out for in the film. Take it as it is and stop trying to connect some dots from out of nowhere.

Quite surprised to see Ebert give it a postive closing comment. It's as if all the other critics set out to try and be like him by trying to sound all snobby and high and mighty and then got caught out by the fact that in the end, it's a monster movie and it's taken postive reactions for that as it should do.

Can't wait to see it when it comes out over here.

About the whole attacking the helicopter from the smoke... We don't know how this thing sees. If the little ones could track the group in a pitch black tunnel, I don't see how attacking the helicopter from the smoke was so unrealistic.

Loved the movie btw.

I just got back from seeing this. It was everything I was expecting it to be. Awesome monster and very well directed.

Seriously, the critics mentioning 9/11 anywhere in their reviews can fuck off.

Jesus Christ this is one of the sweetest movies I've ever seen. Those who say its more of an experience than a film are right. Edge of your seat is an understatement.

Fun movie - watched I Am Legend too. New York in ruins marathon tonight.
