This is the biggest load of crap I've ever seen you post Mecha. How the hell does being pieceful make you unreligious? Being peaceful simply means that you are not following the Torah, Quaran or Bible. Religion does not end at those three books you know.

I thought it was fairly clear that I was refering specifically to christian theology.

Still, I don't think it is arguable that any religion that refuses to stop billions of people from being tortured must be classified as an evil religion.

And I could put forwards a fairly strong argument that all religions lead unwaveringly to death and pain, but that's not the topic of this thread.

Well, I was sitting in the common room of my fiances dorm with her while she was copying notes off a friend, and there were about 6 girls all complaining about how Anna Nicole Smith was their idol, and how sad they are that she died and how awful it is... WTF She is your roll model?! God damn, I dont want to know how they all turn out...

And as soon as CNN changed topics to something that was actually intellectual, they changed the channel...

You know as well as I do that Mecha doesn't think that every conceivable religion would be completely evil ect.
there's no point making exceptions for such religions which do not harm because they have no significance as they do not exist, or at least are not very popular.

So please stop nitpicking, it doesn't advance the argument at all.

I believe you mest up a translation there. The correct translation I believe is not "kill", but rather "murder". Often times you find this translated wrong.

Murder != Killing. Murder is without proper cause.

Otherwise your calling the bible hypocritical, and if it's hypocritical it has to be lying somewhere, and therefor cannot be considered a valid source, due to it could be lying elsewhere.

Actually, there's a further misinterpretation there:
That quote is about Jesus elaborating on the definition of murder. He defines it any form of unjustified anger.

Not only does Murder get the death penalty, but so do insults and angry thoughts.
Anyone who shows anger without reason goes on trial, and will receive the death penalty if convicted.

So, like Solaris said, you are forced to love and kill simultaneously.


Compare that quote with Matthew 5:27-28, where jesus redefines Adultery as any lusty thoughts.

Jesus isn't going easier on you. He is prohibiting thoughtcrimes.

"You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery.'
I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart."

Adultery, also, features the death penalty.

So, Jesus says that anyone who thinks angry thoughts is already a murderer in his heart, and should be punished accordingly.

i can agree that atheists are being discriminated against. One time i said i was an atheist in my Physics honors class (i would think they would be at least a little more tolerant), but they get all disgusted at me and asked if i were abused or something and then i got the guy who sits next to me saying he wants to convert me...
 
The point was that, suffice it to say, atheists have very good reason to ignore christan teachings and reject conversion.
So, any discrimination isn't justified.

And the New Testament shouldn't be commented on one sentence, but as a whole parable. You should try to think about what the whole parable means, not just Luke 19:27.

P.S to me the best neighbour there can be is...perhaps a guy somewhat simmiliar to Ned Flanders (the Simpsons). yeah, he's weird at times, since it's a cartoon comedy, but often he is a good example.

Thoughts are very much uncontrolled. You tell me not to think of a pink elephant and it's an almost guaranteed certainty that I will. And the more I try to fight it, the more difficult it becomes. Try resisting something as instinctual as the urge to mate, and you will be faced up against an impossibility. Unless you have some dysfunctional sex drive. Anybody who claims they can block out sexual thoughts from their mind out of their own free will is either some supernatural mental master (which, to be gentle, you have demonstrated you are certainly not) or a liar.

And I'm growing very sick and tired of people saying that excerpts from the Bible need to be looked at from some grandiose whole. If this is really the case, then please, FEEL FREE TO EXPLAIN THE TRUE MEANING OF IT ALL. Don't just leave us hanging there. If you know that there is integral, meaningful context missing from our reductive analysis, then please explain what it is. Because I'm inclined to believe that sentences like "I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart" are pretty self-explaining and self-supported. There isn't some broader look at the Bible that can fundamentally alter the message conveyed through those words. Unless you can quote Jesus Christ as saying "lol guyz only kidding :D" immediately afterwards.
