Finished playing CoD4 last night and enjoyed it immensely. I'm interested to hear what the rest of you who finished the game thought of it. I have to say the nuke going off and Johnson dying as you crawled from the wreckage of the chopper was pretty damn jaw dropping as far as game sequences go.

Also was anyone else completely creeped out by the Death from above mission?

My only criticism would be that it would of been nice to have had some long range sniper practice before the Chernobyl mission :)

The cinematic offerings of CoD4 are hard to come by in games these days. It did an excellent job in this respect. The very end was easily my favorite moment though... very emotional. My only gripe is the mild redundancy of some of the firefights. Great experience that is well worth the price.

I can see why you were creeped out by death from above. It was spot on with it's realism. Such a unique experience, and a lot of fun too.

Death from above:

Now, I know the difference between a game and a real war, but the way those AC 130 crew members were acting like it was a game is very unnerving.

I couldn't play it past the first mission...I got bored stiff :( Maybe I should try it, again?

Yeah, I think perhaps judging the game on one mission was a bit backwards. :p Be like listening to a CD, disliking the first track then dismissing it like that, man. :p

The best mission was by far the final, final one (mile high club or whatever its called)

The rest was very good but could be a bit eh... at some points.

Overall very good but I've got plenty of gripes with it too.

Well, I figure if I'm going to be that bored with the game at the start, it might be hinting at things to come :p

I thought all the gripes and faults with weapons and whatnot put you off? The final mission was absoloutly awful in a realistic sence. :p

The AC-130 mission was very well done. Bombing the shit out of a bunch of Russians and switching over to a friggin' mangun was awesome. The nuke scene with Jackson crawling from the wreckage and seeing all of the destruction was incredible. The SAS missions were all good for the first two Acts, got kinda stale for me after "Sins of the Father". What the Hell was the "Mile High Club" Epilogue mission after the credits all about?

"We're going deep, and we're going hard.
"Surely you can't be serious?"
"I'm serious. And don't call me Shirley."

Edit: I wanted to gouge my ears out during that song in the credits. It was worse than the "Cole Train" song from Gears of War. :|

Yes, I hope they stop putting rap in our games as a reward. I hate that shit.

You ain't ever seen the film Airplane? But yes, the first line was odd and the end song was dire.

I wonder - is it possible to shoot down the Hind in the getaway sequence and get a different ending or have the bridge blown up in a different way?

Woah Sedako you didn't google a random AC130 video did you? I mean they're so much alike in scenario and voice chatter that it almost felt like that the real footage you posted was the direct inspiration for that sequence in CoD4.

oh...thats depressing i forgot this was out and just bought assassin's creed which has no online :[
hmm. maybe, i should stop buying games so i don't feel stupid if i make a bad choice or w/e
(gamefly here I come)

Looked it up on Youtube. The developers wanted to simulate a flying fortress as much as they could, and it looks to me like they achieved that perfectly. Although, in the real vid you can see some of the guys get blown into pieces. :|

I was also stunned by that AC 130 mission. Pure genius how they pulled that off so well. Did you notice both at the end of the game's mission and in the video posted, you hear someone talking about a highlight reel? Creepy homage.

True, but who doesn't like tearing through an airliner in less than a minute tossing flash bangs and blazing away with an MP5 against generic terrorists (so I don't actually have a complaint reguarding the weapons on that level, as they can use anything they damn well like).

And the important thing is that it was actually fun! And had a reference to "Airplane!", which always makes something at least 72% more awesome. Alot of the other missions were simply "fire an AK through the nearest wall until everything is dead" which is not that much fun after about the first 3 times. Mile High Club was a nice, refreshing change after what could be exedingly frustrating parts of the final missions (like 3 way cross fires and whatnot)

I am rather satisfied with the game, as it provides a fresh look on the series and is unconventional, as of the good guys only one survives to the end. I will miss Gaz and Price...

That AC-130 was pure genius, agreed. Really shows how detached you become when flying on this monster.

Oh yeah totally, the level was class. The time limit really did make the mission much more tense - it's not often you really are racing against the clock due to so many games giving you too much time.

My only gripe with COD is the fact that in some areas when you find cover and kill off all the enemies new ones constantly keep spawning (unless you advance), which usually means you running Kamikaze style into a group of em without much in the way of cover... oh yeah, the checkpoint system is ****ed up too, I wish they'd do an about turn with that and work saves in the same way HL does em. Sick of doing some parts on COD 4 over and over... like the 15 years ago mission where you have to drag ur commies sorry ass about with enemies shooting at you (hard on Veteran!)

Yep, that's my main gripe as well. And IMHO you're dealing with too many enemies.

And the guy you have to drag is your lad not your commie :p

BTW, you know what I noticed? In the credits there is an Alexander Roycewicz which I'm guessing is a former member of these boards (account expired?) and the author of two CS maps: de_crookcounty and cs_noir. Link to one of the map threads.

Played through single player and completed it just now on vet difficulty. I must I really enjoyed it, and there were many moments of pure class. Definately lives up to the standard of CoD 1 and 2 single player.

Only gripe with it is that I had to watch the final mission on youtube since I kept getting some gayass error, but I felt really bad for Gaz and Price as a fellow Brit, although Price could very well have survived as we didn't actually see him die. Also, although I was glad that it was incredibly challenging in places, but the lack of quicksave really led to frustrating moments of having to keep on replaying bits all the time.

Other than that, a cracker of a game. I have yet to try the MP, but looking at CoD 1 and 2, I am estimating that it will be 10x better than the SP.

Well I started playing it online at last today on PC. Was pretty fun to begin with, but a little edit to the annoying zoomed-in field-of-view makes it so much better. I've been pwning it up a fair bit. :D

761 kills, 311 deaths. 22 kill streak as well. Would've been a few more if it weren't for that annoying perk where after you kill someone they drop a live grenade. Can't stand that shit lol. Especially when they have the Sonic Boom perk as well, getting away in time in close-quarters is pretty damn hard.

Yeah. Alex Roycewicz's first commercial project was CoD4. Lucky guy! :D

Was anybody else shitting themselves when that army of people started walking through the field you were moving through in All Gheiled Up? They kept looking right at my without noticing.

Heh that was a cool mission, I was expecting the tank to turn at any point and squish me

BMP squished me on my first go. I fail.

I ****ing HATE that perk. It's like the ultimate noob perk to have equipped. Seriously, it seems that in MP the splash damage of a grenade almost follows you around sometimes. You'll see the grenade near indicator for way longer than you do in SP.

^ Agreed.

I think it's worse on Hardcore servers as well. Basically if you're in the same room you're dead meat.

Also, I'm not sure what it's like on 360, but a lot of servers seem to have waaaay too many players for certain maps. A 32 player match on one map was basically spawning followed by instant death. I couldn't believe the amount of times I was killed accidently as someone spammed a nade launcher or wildly sprayed their rifles just as I happened to spawn. One time I was climbing up a ladder as two guys were shooting it out above. On the killcam the guy was just wilding spraying his m4 missing the person who he was supposed to be shooting, but caught my face perfectly as it rised above the window frame in the background... :D

I've taken to a few servers that disallow martyrdom now, much nicer on hardcore...

The singleplayer is really quite good excepting a few missions (usually USMC ones)... But I don't recommend playing it on anything above reg difficulty, just exasperates the annoying parts.

Man, I wish the 360 version had no martyrdom servers... :( What a shite perk.

I recently got the perk that increases your weapons rate of fire. My AK47 with red dot sight is a BEAST. Also - AK74u (?) is awesome. Need the G36C so much, though.

Also, Jimmeh: it's not so bad on the 360 as the highest you can go is 9 v 9 which is pretty perfect really. Except on ''The Bog.'' God I hate that map. Strangly enough, though, Vacant works really well 9 v 9, but maybe thats because it's so easy to get kills as it's seriously frantic. I'm so close to unlocking the next shotgun thanks to that level...

The g36 w/ red dot is wicked. And you'll love the next shotgun, it's actually good unlike the w1200.

Currently playing mainly with an r700/mp5-sd combo. But I'm also very fond of the M16 now. Gah, not enough custom slots...

I'm gonna try the MP in a bit. Might be a bit different then my average TF2 game. :p

I'm digging the single-shot G3 - it's awesome.

Since we're bitching about grenades and ppl getting lucky - I really hate when I'm killed by a nade, and on the killcam see that the guy who killed me just threw his nade high in the air in the general direction of the fight. It's also annoying when you get killed through the wall and it wasn't you that was getting shot at in the first place. I know bullets penetrate materials but what are they making their walls of - paper? Bog is a shit map indeed.

If you had played the previous ones, then this was very common, in TDMs people usually through like their 3 nades over the walls as soon as they spawned, and with enough people it was if artillery was falling down lol. But even worse is in elite scrims, some clans figure out nade tactics, as if to find precise areas to throw a nade, so it timed to perfection, and hits a spot where people usually hide or a usually path etc. Bloody iritating when it happens to you.

Wow, just beat the sp and what a game! Playing the mp now, and im liking the hardcore servers.

Really? I could never get used to it what with the game being so fast paced. I could only ever kill people if I got lucky with them and found them running away or I sneaked up behind them. In close combat I'd always lose with it. Maybe I should give it a try with that faster rate of fire perk I got...

The best war game ever.

well I liked the Airplane level and so this one:

Ok, I cant ****ing beat the end of the Sniping mission. Im made it halfway through the fight to the save point, but now the helicopters come in and drop a ****ing billion people off while more still come from the ground. I try to take out as many as I can while they're sitting ducks in the helicopters, but there are too many, so I have to fall back to my partner, and then I simply get overwhelmed and/or killed by a dog (how the **** do you get them off you, I hit the melee key when it says to and the damn thing just rips my neck out). All my claymores are used up, I have 3 grenades and some flashbangs.

What strategy did you guys use?

I proned right behind the sniper fellow with some guy's ak and covered his right flank. Dogs = shoot BEFORE they jump on you. They're loud and pretty slow.
His invulnerable ass will grant you 50-70% cover, all you have to do is get the right flank and throw back nades and you're good.

I went behind the bumper car place and went prone. I saw one or two enemies, shot them, then when the time to go had arrived, I legged it out and completed the mission.
