CoD4 Post play discussion *SPOILERS*

I was an idiot, and I picked up a shotgun at the first fight, but instead of trading it for my pistol, I traded my rifle!! LOL

So I sniped the chopper pilot between the apartments with my pistol...

When we called in the evac, I hid behind the tree near McMillan, used my pistol on the occasional guy trying to snipe me, and then just used my shotgun when soldiers climbed up the ferris wheel...I survived! :D

I think it was scripted, because I just unloaded a magazine into the chopper and that started...I think its scripted to happen once you deal so much damage to it...still felt pretty good, though! And the crash was stupendously fantastic!

I played it this afternoon, and I must say it's a pretty good FPS wargame. The mission inside the airplane giving air support to the troops below made me burst out in evil maniacal laughter every 10 seconds. Some of those AC crewmembers seemed to ride the plane with the cannons between their legs, whilst spinning cowboy hats above their heads. Crazy.
Oh, and swapping your own gear with the enemies' was good as well (close quarters shotgun galore!)

Still, I thought the 'railroad' missions and scripted occurrences made it a bit of a bore to play. Other than the airsupport mission it didn't really surprise me or blew me away anywhere whatsoever.

Nonetheless, I reckon the multiplayer should be very nice.

Oh, one other thing I noticed (for the Top Gear fans out there) - when you crawl out of the crashed chopper, there's a completely intact Toyota pickup-truck to your right.

I bet the engine still works.

JESUS ****ING CHRIST!!!! i was playing the end of ''one shot, one kill'' earlier on Veteran, i must have restarted at that checkpoint before the helicopters drop the troops near the Ferris wheel at least 20 times, god damnit that was frustrating.

I also let myself die a few times even when the evac chopper came as i was trying to get the last intel peace remaining. Apparently the doors to the building to the east open at some point and the intel is at the end of the corrider but alas, it never opened for me.

Where is the best position to take up? I settled for basically the same spot as MacMillan as it was relatively high ground and there was a slight dip in terrain just behind him where you could get cover when prone and heal. But i was always overwhelmed, generally by flanking troops to the east beside the ferris wheel or the ****ing dogs.

I then decided to go underneath the ferris wheel as the metal beams gave some cover but grenades magically seemed to spawn at my feet every 2 seconds.

I also tried the ticket booths as i would atleast be covered and i assumed the A.I. wouldn't be smart enough to enter one, they didn't and the most trouble i had was from nades, again, i was absolutely peppered by them but was able to use the door as cover, unfortunately nades in the end did kill me even though the nade indicator wasn't onscreen :|

I then said fook it and went totally north-east of MacMillan down into the alley, right into the north eastern corner where a solitary tree kept me from harm, i only had trouble from the few troops who automatically spawn near the pool building and run down this alley, usually only 1 every 10 seconds or so.

Also i had to deal with the troops in the area towards the bumper cars and the picket fence on that side, on veteran everyone is a sharpshooter, the bloody tree must have taken 300 bullets atleast. But they generally just stayed in that area and never rushed me so using the tree and taking quick pot shots kept me safe, Macmillan never gets rushed whatever thats about :| even though i was nowhere near him.

In the end the chopper came but the door for the intel never triggered to open so i just got back to MacMillan and evac'd.

I'm gona try again tomorrow, any tips?

Yeh, i tried that atleast 10 times over.

The most annoying thing on that level was when the chopper was 50m away (starts at 4000) and then a dog comes out from nowhere, jumps me, I miss the snap and I have to re-do it.

Also during the assasination, I shot that "bad guy" in the head [i KNOW i did] and then Macmillan says "you blew his arm off".. wtf? I know that he has to live for the story to go on, but the shot was perfect :(

I blew his head off and the bullet went through and killed a nameless henchman behind him...imagine how pissed off I am that even after I blow the top of his skull off I have to do it again in the end with a freakin Colt .45...

Because its so far away, it shows that little trail of the bullet. I followed his movement, and there's a point right after he goes up to the guy where his head is completely still. I fired the gun, saw the trail [heading directly for the top of his head] and he falls backwards. I could of just shot randomly and got the same result. :hmph:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coriolis_effect

When Maxmillian mentioned it, I sorta knew they could bullshit that shot no matter how well I aimed. I tagged the target the first time, but I knew it was impossible to hit the guy in the head or torso thanks to what Max said and the obvious curving bullet. It didn't help that the other shots were dead accurate as I picked off the other guys and the darn "Coriolis effect" didn't effect my shots of doom, effectively turning my physics affected cannon to a laser weapon.

But we all know that it wasn't atmospheric physics that saved armless, but the omnipotent story writer.

More like impotent.

Man, the one shot one kill mission was hyped so much before I played it, but I ended up being severely disappointed by it.

I was definitely disappointed that you never did any real sniping, only close range silenced shooting. I guess they felt like they to make the level feel cool while not bothering the player with the variables real snipers face. While following Max was exciting, it was definitely a hand holding experience.

Regardless, the atmosphere of that level is my favorite, despite lack of an real sniping gameplay. Witnessing dust in the irradiated school was a little breath taking with a good graphics rig.

You mean the whole thing from starting with MacMillan to evac'ing or just the shooting part?

Yeah i certainly would've liked a bit more opportunities for advanced sniping

Just the shooting bit, mostly, because that's what I'd seen in videos. All Ghillie'd Up was great, especially trying to get through silently, and the escape after that was pretty cool, but the sniping part with the barrett was over way too quickly. I really expected that you were gonna have to take out multiple targets instead of just the one guy, although I guess it's more realistic this way. Just seems like a waste of a pretty cool sniping mechanic.

Yeah I got a bit of that feeling, everything was great leading up to it and following it, but the shot itself was over too quick :dozey:

What happens when you find the 30 laptops? Any idea ?

The laptops unlock cheat codes for single player.

I don't think IW is making #5. It's probably been pushed onto Treyarch (again), and then Infinity Ward will pick up CoD6 the year after.

Their support for CoD4 seems quite good. They've had 2 and a half patches (though minor) with 1.1, 1.2, and the server fix for awaiting connection, and a larger third one that should fix the issues most people have with the game on the way.

Have any of you tried to beat the training course in less than 19 seconds? My best scores is 21 Seconds, I find it imposible to do it in 12 secs. I wonder what happens if you do beat it.

And if you go wondering in the SAS HQ you can see obstacle courses but you can't do any of them...

thats my best time too, yeah i went around the grounds when i played too and noticed the courses and a few soldiers.

Mine was 20-odd seconds on the 360. Probably nearer 30, I suck with controllers. Managed a 15.8 on the PC though. Just make sure every shot hits a target, then you'll get a -3 second accuracy bonus.

Mine was 16/17 i think. Try it once or twice and you'll then be able to predict where the targets will be ;)

Been playing private matches with my clan buddies recently. Played a game yesterday with just the five of us - bolt-action snipers only (claymores and knifes respectively) and any perks except Frag X3 or Martyrdom or any other offensive type perk on the Pipeline map. I tell you, I've not played a more quiet, tense game yet. I was using UAV Jammer, Stopping Power and Claymores whilst using the first and fourth sniper rifles (forgot the names) and I held out quite well. But honestly, it was terrifying. You'd be watching the main street through a crack between two objects, see a guy sprint from cover to cover only to see him take a round to the shoulder and go down, the shooter unseen.

Such a good map.

[RANT] I've really had enough of admin-abuse on multiplayer servers. Today i've been perma-banned off 3 servers because the admins hated the fact I was killing them. One of them also said they'd report me to Punkbuster.

Some people really are sore losers. [/RANT]

Patch came out the other day fixing sniper rifles and ACOGs. Having fun trying them out on all the weapons now.

That's why I avoid clan servers in FPS games.

I think my internet is on it's last legs now. I'm getting some really horrid and random lag on COD4. Just spikes from green to red which pretty much makes it unbearable to play.

Sucks.

Dammed straight. You're 13/14 right? You young folks have reflexes that can see in the future.

Not quite but pretty close ;)

@ Antipop: Do you play on big servers with huge pings alot? My slow little wireless can play it fine :|

I'm on the 360 version, so things like ping aren't usually shown or an issue. Well, I dunno how it works on a 360 actually but I know when others are green I'm red.

you too? Is it like you have a perfectly fine, very speedy connection, and then every so often it will simply SWITCH itself OFF. Does the same thing happen when you go online on your computer?

I have the same problem, but through experimentation and a visit from my provider, I'm pretty sure my modem box is bad. Now I'm contemplating shelling out for another.

Why not wire your internet to the Xbox? Surely that would get rid of all connection problems?

My internet runs through a hub in my room, which in turn also powers my laptop with sweet, sweet internet. It's fine, usually, but I know what the problem is. My sister is quite young so her computer is loaded with crap she has no clue about, not to mention internet programs running in the background, stuff streaming, etc. I ran a few tests when her computer wasn't on and my Live was fine. Soon as she's back on it's back to lag.

But anyway, I played a good, green connection game for the first time in a week today. I think I'm going to be playing Team Hardcore the most now because it really filters out the asshole nade spammers and whatnot from the slow, tactical gamers. Love it.
