CoD5 doing a U-Turn back to WW2

The game would like be... one level. :p That, or just lots and lots of missions that are exactly the same, which I suppose is the usual COD gameplay mechanic, COD4 just took it a few steps forward and made it more exciting/cinematic.

I had no problems with COD3, either. I found the MP leagues ahead of COD1 and 2 because of the classes and more detailed/bigger maps. It was Battlefield 2 lite, sort've, but nevertheless real good fun.

Well, there was more to world war I than just the trench warfare of the late western front. There was a period of German advance which played out similar to World War II as the Germans descended upon France, and then were stopped by the trenches, there was the dogfighting between aces and such, firebombing by zepplins in the cities, and the eastern front, in which Russians with very old, almost Napoleonic weaponry, were crushed by the German forces. There was also an extensive use of tanks near the end of the war, and submarine warfare in the North Sea and the Atlantic.

I think there'd be plenty of variety in World War I to do a FPS game with.

Ya, I know, I was just generalizing. :p

But I don't think WWI would really appeal much to the casual gamer. It's like WWI movies and WWII movies. There's barely any WWI movies that come close to being as renowned or as recognised as, say, A Bridge Too Far or Saving Private Ryan, etc. Same with WWI games actually available now... if any? (I'm ignorant on that one, I've not a clue if there are so someone feel free to correct) I dunno, I just don't think it'd work too well but we'll see.

98% of the WW1 games out are flight combat sims.

And the best WW1 movie I've seen is Sgt. York.

Unless they do it from the Axis side, I don't want it

This may be a first, but I agree with Dalamari. That might be interesting. Probably wouldn't sell very well in Germany though. :|

I assume one reason that this is still in WW2 is that Treyarch needed more use out of all of those art assets they created for CoD3. It's all about cost effectiveness of the resources.
I believe this too.

EDIT : Aw WTF this is an old thread. I could swear I was having dejavu

Heh, they probably has a bunch of old rehashed textures, models, and sound effects laying around that they were planning on using anyway.

also, suddenly /facepalms are funny to me now for some reason

I heard that you travel backwards in time from the end of CoD4, but a horrible accident leads to you turning into a bar of Soap. You observe WWII from bathroom in Dusseldorf.

Features:

- Real-time lathering

- Unparalleled scent customisation

- The most realistic soap bar physics ever seen in a computer game

Oh my **** i lol'd

yeah, COD4 kicked ass... if the new developers want COD5 to succeed, then they'll need to give the gaming community something they haven't seen before. Not ****in likely with WWII. I don't really like the idea of south pacific wars imro :(

Delusional and Cheomesh mentioned early or late WWI, and i agree... it would be fcukin epic

In the next COD series, I hope they involve the elements of Biological Warefare and Cyber Warefare.

There are plenty of wars that haven't been done, they could base it on the Falklands, the South African Border War (and personally I think a game based on playing as a Koevoet officer or a trooper in 32 battalion would be fantastic), the Rhodesian Bush War, Korea, Maylaya...

But if they do go back to WWII playing as the Axis would be at least interesting.

A WW1 game could be acomplished as like someone said it wasnt all based on trench fighting. In the early days there was heavy town/city fighting between the British BEF and Germany forces in France, in places like Ypres. Not to mention you can similate one of the trench attacks that worked when they started using the tanks effectively.

I think it would be really cool playing out a trench warfare attack, what you had to do to attack the other trench and take it over, then attack the garrisons behind it.

I think I speak for most pc gamers when I say we're sick of WW2 games, especially FPS. WW1 would be a lot more interesting.

Why don't they do a CoD exactly the same as CoD4 but Sci-Fi? That would be so awesome. Future owns history.

Isn't the future the past of the day after tomorrow?

I laughed.

Laughed at how bad they are going too make this game and why they're going too ww2 and not making an expansion pack or anything.

PHAILE.
