Being developed by Treyarch (back to WW2 we go), then there's this little bit:

Another interesting bit from Kotick was that the company intends to take the CoD franchise in the direction of subscriptions, saying:

"If you think about the success we have had in other categories on subscriptions, you can get a sense of the direction we want to take the franchise."

I really hope this blows up in Activision's face. As far as I'm concerned, they're the main threat to the PC gaming industry as we know it.

Someone seriously needs to kick Bobby Kotick in the balls.

Dear Company that makes Call Of Duty games

Please stop making Call of Duty games

They're not getting any better

It's coming out November this year, not 2011. There is also a good possibility it will be set during the Vietnam War.

As for it being subscription based, I doubt they will start with this title. Infinity Ward's next game may likely begin that.

I enjoyed W@W more the either MW game.

I hope Nazi Zombies come back. If its in Vietnam, then Viet Cong Zombies. Viet Comzies?

no surprise when you have people like Kotick run the Company.

Treyarch CODs aren't that great, but this is retarded.

But if they pull this shit on COD8...

Lol subscription FPS. What in the ****. You can stand around in a lobby and call each other ******s all day, checking out each others leet M-16.

You know what the worst part is? People are going to pay for this. They're going to pay willingly. And you can't stop them. Bobby Kotick is going to make even more money, and then he'll make CoD8 with subscriptions and microtransactions. Which people will pay for.

Hey guys remember that Vietnam War game that was really good

Yay, paying continually for a game that you'll ultimately never own and it's not even an MMO this time.
I wish they would stop making CoD games.

BF:V was good, shame it didn't catch on.
I don't know how I forgot about that game. Dense jungle, helicopters, flamethrowers, flying a jet for six seconds between forested islands before crashing straight into a tree. Good times. I wish they'd remake it with better infantry combat.

Wow look at this hivemind shit. God, I hate FRANCHISE X look at how much I hate FRANCHISE X and the COMPANY who makes it. COMPANY should just stop making FRANCHISE X.

Also publisher =/= developer who knew (Treyarch sucks though).

Activision are ****s and need to stop making shitty business decisions, but let's not drag the games into this when they clearly have nothing to do with Kotick's Scrooge-esque money pool and the shit he pulls to keep it fresh whenever he pees in there.

WHAT BALANCE ISSUES????

Vietcong was decent at best, but it was tons of fun.

A few points - I'm really not that torn up about this, I'm pretty good at ignoring stuff I don't care about. And I'm not wanting to insult anyone by calling the devs the publishers (oh lawdy lawd) but to be honest I don't really care about that distinction in this case - I'd be pretty happy if whoever the **** makes these games stopped making these games (BECAUSE THEY SUCK **** YOU GRUMPYPANTS (why won't you let me come visit you))

Agreed. He's got a point, COD does suck. The should just make Nazi Zombies. Oh yea, L4D lol.

I love CoD5, it reminds me of CoD1 too much. Kinda eating me that they make MW2 and then the equivalent to WaW2 subscription based...

Vietcong is the only good Vietnam game.

Ain't this the sad damn truth.

Gamers will buy anything if it's HUEG enough.

but not me

Is it me, or does the entire damn gaming industry have it in for the single player campaign? For misanthropes such as myself, I love best the games that don't force me to interact with other human beings.

I'd like to add that I love the Modern Warfare series solely for the single player. Apparently this makes me certifiably insane according to many members of the board, but I don't care. I'll be blasting away Russians and screaming "SOOOAAAP!" "PRIIIICE!" or just "YEEAAAAH!" whenever something awesome happens.

I also role-played Roach's death by yelling "Curse you, Shepherd! Curse yooouuu!" and then giving my best agonized scream. Really, screaming at the screen makes many games, not just MW2, much more fun.

Edit: ^ I have a similar, and somewhat involuntary, approach to the multiplayer. Namely alternating between "WHAT THE **** HE DIDN'T EVEN SHOOT ME GOD" and "**** YEAH YOU SPICY LITTLE FAJJOT, YOU JUST GOT STABBED IN THE GODDAMN PANCREAS."

As such my playtime has been restricted to daytime-only unless I agree to wear a muzzle. :3

Blast it all, I have voiced a public disagreement on an internet forum without anticipating the offending party is actually chill as a motherf*ck and don't give no shits. As an act of attrition I will now sever my broadband cable with a pair of scissors.

brb lol

YOU CANNOT DEFY THE HIVEMIND.

Seriously I'm just being a dick but gosh could you guys be any more smug. "Heh who even likes CoD. What? Ten billion sales in a week? Pff, clearly every one of those purchases were made by plebeian consumer whores with no real grasp on true gaming.

"And now I must away to my impenetrable consolization-proof fortress, to replay Deus Ex or STALKER or some kind of brainy shit cause I'm awesome."

Ever since COD 1, Call of Duty has been going downhill. Sure there have been 1 or 2 good games in the franchise, but they definitely aren't the most recent ones.

EDIT: COD seems to be one of those games that the majority like because their afraid everyones going to shun them from society of they don't.

Becoming... assimilated... by... hivemind. Must... set aside... dissenting... opinion.......

Every one of those people who bought COD4:MW2 were plebeian consumer whores with no real grasp on true gaming. FACT.

EDIT: Except for my mom, who bought it for me. She just didnt know any better, love ya mom!

Could not agree more.

I hated multiplayer since I was a kid. When multiplayer over the internet came around, I started to like multilayer online, but I can't stand it anymore. Pretty much after I realized everyone was a cheater, or so good they must spend their life playing that game, or just stand there AFK, or I keep getting disconnected, or can't form enough people to play. People exploiting the game or the way points are awarded. Trapped in a room with a dozen random people playing a shit-talking, l33t-speak lag-fest.

(I also hate subscriptions fees more than anything.)

Pretty much the only game I will play online is a one-on-one fighting game like SF, but I'll probably try Guild Wars 2.

I almost won't buy a game that doesn't have multiplayer. It has to have an amazing single player experience for me to consider getting it. (aka, HL2 & ME) It adds more replayability to a game that would otherwise cost $50 new that I may or may not play through a couple of times after beating it once.

To me the best thing in the world when it comes to gaming is Co-op. So few games do this but there is nothing better than teaming up with one of my best mates and playing through a great story line, kicking trash together.

Yeah, at $50, I don't think it's worth it for a ~10 hour game. So, I don't buy games that cost $50 - I wait until they are cheap. Also, I usually buy games that have a lot to do, or have a strong mod backing, to keep things interesting for a long time.

Other games I'll buy are still fun even if I've 'completed' it. For example, a great racing game is still fun to play even if you have won the championship [or whatever].
