Woooah.

Anyone catch this song when Radio 1 played it at 9pm last night? Another superb song from Coldplay!

Speed of Sound:

How long before I get in, before it stops, before I begin?
How long before you decide, or before I know what it feels like?
Where to, where do I go? If you never try then you never know.
How long do I have to climb, up on the side of this mountain of mine?

Look up, I look up at night, planets are movin' at the light.
Climb up, up in the trees, every chance that you get is a chance you seize.
How long and I gonna' stand with my head stuck under the sand?
I'll stop before I can start, or before I see things the right way up.

All that noise, and all that sound.
All those places I've not found.
And lets go flying at the speed of sound, to show you how it began.
And lets keep flying from the underground, if you could see it then you'd understand.

Let me get this straight, you like this but hated Lyla, I`ve got the studio version on my comp, and it doesn`t even come close to anything on ROBTTH or Parachutes, this song really is nothing more than than avarage, and believe me, I`m a big Coldplay fan.

Very Dissapointing.

I didn't 'hate' Lyla, it's just nowhere near the heights of old Oasis Material. Nowhere near.

Fact is Coldplay are doing better things musically than Oasis, who are basically just anxious to clear out the 6 album contract with Sony and will release any old tripe.

I`m sorry mate, but if you think that Coldplays new single is anywhere near as good as their other stuff then you need your ears waxing.
Speed Of Sound isn`t even close to being the songs that The Scientist, Trouble, Shiver, Yellow, In My Place, Green Eyes, Crest Of Waves etc are.
But that`s just comparing new to old, Speed Of Sound isn`t as good as Lyla, hell, it isn`t even as good as the Gorillaz new song, and I really don`t like that song.
Razorlight`s new single is also far better (this is better than Lyla)
I can`t comment on X & Y, I haven`t heard it, from reviews it`s supposed to be great, and I do hope so, I love their stuff. If the new album is similar to Speed of Sound then it`s going to be very dissapointing to alot of fans.

Anxious to clear their contract, yeah ok, so they wait 2-3 years between albums, scrap the new one 3 times to get it right, then produce an excellent return to form just to clear their contract, okay mate, sure.

Oh, and as far Lyla not being anywhere near as good Oasis`s old stuff:-

Up In The Sky
Hey Now
Digsys Dinner
She`s Electric
Swamp Song (The single worst thing Oasis have ever put out)

Lyla - Better than any of them
Your looking at the past through Rose-tints, Oasis never will live up to your expections if your doing that.

Oh my word! You think the swamp song is the worst thing they've ever put out?? Fact is when it was the opener at main road it pissed on ****in' in the bushes and the album version with Weller doing the solo was mint.

You sound like a pretty big Oasis fan.. but have you ever done this (heheh):

Took me ages to get me gf to take the picture.

That maybe, but when your in a crowd of 50,000 or whatever, in the atmosphere of paul weller and noel jamming on a guitar, they could`ve been playing ballamory and it would have been awesome, doesn`t change the fact that when it crops up on the album for 20 or secs and as a b-side, it`s pants.

That pic:- cool, where is that? Always wondered about that.

It's where they did the cover of morning glory. Berwick Street in W1, which ironically intersects with Noel stree :D Coincidence, I think not!

It's good. I give it a 7/10, nothing near The Scientist or Trouble though.

Lot of people are saying the main riff is similar to Clocks. I like it anyway. I heard it when they played at KCRW and the album version is much better.

I read this thread, downloaded the track expecting utter trash, and came away pleasantly surprised. I actually think the song is really catchy, and it's continually growing on me.

At the same time, I was kind of hoping for the "OK Computer" (i.e. breakthrough into genius) of Coldplay this time around, but I don't think we quite have it yet.

very cool picture.

im going to download this new coldplay song and let you know what i think.

This song was a major disappointment for me. It was just like Clocks with a different piano progression and almost identical drums...

I have a feeling that X&Y will be a mediocre album... or "mediocre" in terms of comparing it to Parachutes of A Rush of Blood To The Head

Which is actually why I like it, Clocks being the only Coldplay song I've liked up to now.

It kind of annoys me when people compare Lyla to Oasis' early work....whilst Lyla is unmistakably Oasis, it's from a whole different era to their early stuff - there's since been changes in band members, and no doubt new influences. I'm sure far more people would complain if they reused old formulae in each new album rather than trying to move on. IMO, and compared to other recent songs in this genre, Lyla is a great tune, but believe me it's by no means the best track on the new album.

I take it you've not heard the rest of the new album? Believe me when i say it is truly outstanding. In it's consistency, it's definitely up there with What's The Story, not a bad track on the whole album, IMO of course.

Edit: Oh yeah, and i can't wait for the new Coldplay album either. Not had chance to hear Speed of Sound yet but i'm sure it'll be awesome too.

Finally, someone agree`s with me!!!!! , that`s exactly the point I`ve been trying to make in this, and the Don`t Believe The Truth thread.

It`s been said a thousand times, Oasis may not live up to the first album they ever did, for the main reason it was one of the best albums ever written.
The albums that followed couldn`t be as good as this so people said they crap, even though they pissed on everything else released at the same time.
Not to mention everythings moved on musically now.

Craig has heard they new album, but I don`t think he ever gave a final opinion it.
Mine is it is the best since Morning Glory, maybe even better than Morning Glory, but I`ll decide that in time.

Yep, Don`t Believe The Truth is awesome.

And despite not liking Speed Of Sound, I am hoping the album will be as good as the rest of their stuff. ;)

I have heard the new album and I like it. After about 50/70 listens to it it is starting to fizzle a little I guess, but it's still something I enjoy listening to more than I did SOTSOG or HC after the same number of listens (aside from the few tunes I still love on each, FITB, GP, GLIO, SCYHO, LBL, BOADC, SIL). Whether I will still enjoy it in 8 years (ala BHN) is anyones guess however.

My whole point about Oasis circa 2005 is that Noel is is stinkingly rich, is no longer a coke head (which is what he was when he wrote his best stuff), is almost fourty and the music sounds like it's something written by someone who's pushing fourty (i.e. less exciting (like part of the queue, which is basically about being a rich dude shopping for milk!) .. stuff like Headshrinker that Noel wrote in his 20s was the most exciting material he ever made.. heck, even Step Out, in which Noel had to credit Stevie Wonder was a much more rocking tune than anything on DBTT, which for all it's graces is a very _safe_ album and doesn't stray much from the path.

Idle...about milk? nah....Noel said this wasn`t the case, besides, there isn`t a single reference to it in the song.
It`s just simply about being a lazy c*nt, something I can identify with, only thing is it doesn`t do me any good cos I`m not loaded ;)

I said Part of the Queue ;) not the Importance of Being Idle :P

Then....I stand corrected :E Not to mention looking a little stupid :rolling: :o

Yeah i heard this song a week or so ago, and fell in love with it, its brilliant! Seriously, this new album is going to be superb, im so excited.

On the other hand oasis' lyla, its not bad, but i just cant get caught on it. Not a bad song just not great, speed of sound has me gagging for more (i hope tr0n doesnt read that )

Trust me, it`s the second worst song on the album.

Ahem.. Mucky Fingers, Meaning of Soul, _Lyla_, ...

Did you say third worst?

Nope, prefer Mucky Fingers to be honest :D

That`s not to say I don`t like Meaning Of Soul or Lyla, love em both, but the rest of the album is so much better

Okay, still don`t like the new Coldplay song much, but the album will be good ;)

I found this song great - just like all the other songs Coldplay have done.

and about Oasis, has anyone hear Radiohead do Wonderwall? its basically them taking the piss out of Oasis, its pretty funny.

Yeah, I have, but well, that`s the way most unimaginative (not in their music, liked them till Kid A, damn that album was arse) bands take the piss out of Oasis, Robbie Williams did the same thing, but he also did it in the press, and he got it ripped out of him at the Q awards by Liam and never had a comeback, stormed out in tears, wimp.

Speed Of Sound is basically just clocks with different words, that`s why I don`t like it, I expect originality from Coldplay.
Funny thing is, I didn`t expect it from Oasis, so when they produce something original and I find Coldplay doing the recycling, then I get suprised.

I have no doubt Coldplays album will be the mutts, BUT I have doubts weather or not it can live up to Oasis`s new one.

Spin magazine Gave !Don`t Believe The Truth! an A- and X & Y a B, now this is not normal for critics to rate Oasis higher tham Coldplay, and the next few weeks should prove interesting.

I thought it sounded like a remix of Clocks, to be honest. They have very similar rythms and drumming, perhaps this means Coldplay are forging their own sound, but I suspect they just aren't that creative.

I did read the album they are making now (or have made) is the last for sure.

Anyone seen the video? They're playing it on VH2 now. Its a typical Coldplay video, but its still pretty cool.

Well, having heard 8 of the tracks from the album, I have to say this is one Coldplay album I won`t be getting.

The tracks are just plain boring, don`t go anywhere, don`t say anything, just sounds like some depressed git moaning on and on,

The best has already been released as a single (Speed Of Sound) and even that was just a rework of Clocks, but it`s the only track iv`e heard out tof the 8 that actually has any passion.

What a letdown.

They were played on some foreign radio station, so they got recorded into mp3, look for them on toorent sites if you want to listen for yourself.

Well regardless of what you think Stemot I think they're mint.. and it is an album I've already bought ;)

Fix You, Swallowed in the Sea, X&Y and the reworking of Talk are all brilliant songs.

Edit: Radio One is also having a 'Coldplay Day' and they just played White Shadows, which is also bril.

Edit 2: For anyone who has access to Binaries Newsgroups I uploaded that Radio Broadcast Stemot is on about to alt.binaries.music.oasis after it aired last night... it's about 50 meg

Why do you think they are brilliant? they have no emotion to them, they are boring bland pap.
Swallowed in the sea has the most ridiculous lryics Ive ever heard, it`s pure muck.
They all sound the same and are instantly forgettable, I had play DBTT just to get that horribly average garbage out of my brain.

Of course they have emotion.. just because it's not head-banging music doesn't mean that they don't. IMO it's a very contemplative album and it works very well as a whole (definitely much better than DBTT and it's certainly more original).

It's clear when you listen to the songs that the band has thought about the compositions of each music a lot (apparently Chris Martin was putting in 18 hour days at one point) and nothings added just for 'the sake of it'.
